I'd never go alone. Always bring a group of friends with you. But yeah I know hat you mean at AX me and my friends were dancing and there was this fat ass black girl in this awful cheetah skin tight mini and her fat ass white boyfriend in a gamer t-shirt pretty much dry humping each other in front of us. Girl looks at us like "yeah u jelly" me and my friend just start laughing. Always go with a group of friends otherwise you'll just notice how fucking awful all the people around you are.

That's fucking disgusting. I hate the type of people that show up at convention raves now. It's bottom of the barrel shit anymore, and is the reason I don't go. At least at real clubs they keep those fuckers or out, or at raves those people never hear about it until it's already over. Keep the fucking trash off the dance floor I say.

    >Convention dances are fucking awful. Agree/Disagree?
Agree. Every time I go to one these five things are always there to fuck up my time.

    1. Glowstick users trying to hit as many people as possible.
    2. People that think slamming into someone with force equals dancing.
    3. Minors in little clothing being generally stupid.
    4. Drunk assholes there to just be assholes.
    5. The OD morons that take drugs and then show up to stumble around for ten minutes before collapsing and having staff have to deal with them.

Well, they sound awful then. Especially from these stories. I kind of want to hear more, haha.

I mean free food could at least make up for the shitty atmosphere, and prevent me from wasting more money on overpriced con food.

Oh, forgot a bonus one. The ones that don't even know what the convention is for but they show up to buy one day passes JUST to attend to the rave and then treat it like their own party.

    >fucking volunteer staff members with sticks up their asses who monitor the dancers at the rave like fucking nazi germany monitored the jews, and force the DJ to fucking STOP his mix in order to make more fucked up rules, or who fucking yell at you because you set your glow stick too close to the water tank so you could tie your shoe real fast because "OMG THE GLOWSTICK COULD BE POISONED WITH SOMETHING MAYBE!"

Actually I've never seen that. Last time the staff stopped a rave I was at was so they could get the medics in to get this girl who had OD'd. I know that they do have staff around here that roam the room and pull you out if they think you're consuming alcohol or drugs in the room.

I went to the Sakuracon rave this year when they had DJ Torinos from Zaneeds plan an hour straight of Vocaloid music.

I mostly danced by myself like an idiot and it probably looked a bit like the Elaine but it was a damn good time.

It probably would have been less fun if I weren't such a Vocafag.

I stopped going to conraves after some guy tipped his poorly concealed beer on me because I kept telling him off when he would get right up on my ass and try to feel me up when dancing. I was dancing with my friend, not him, but he took that as an invite to get in on the action. Fucker reeked of beer anyway but by the time I managed to find a staff member I couldn't point him out in the crowd anymore. My clothes reeked so bad I just tossed them in one of the hotel trash bins after I showered and changed.

I didn't know what Vocaloid music sounded like at the time, but I really enjoyed myself at the rave this year. I ended up with a migraine only 2 hours into it that lasted the rest of the convention though, so I ended up leaving early. But, moral of the story, would go again.

There was a really horrible incident that happen at a Metrocon Rave..I think it was in 2007.

    >Friend had dislocated her leg 3-4 months before
    >She thinks it's okay enough to go to a rave
    >In the middle of the chaos dancefloor, her leg dislocates AGAIN
    >No one helps, we're all 15 year old stupid girls that thought it was cool to rave
    >Big guy is nice enough to pick her up and take her outside of the rave room
    >Thank the big guy, he goes back inside
    >She's crying/yelling in pain
    >There are two police officers not five steps away, they do nothing and just look away
    >The only way out is down a flight of stairs
    >The cops do nothing, no one does anything to help
    >She hops down the flight of stairs by herself

Okay, it kind of sounds more retarded on her side but I always thought those cops that didn't help were really rude, they did stare at her occasionally and I understand that they needed to look out but one of them could have at least helped her down the stairs or give us a number for some help.

It wasn't your friends fault at all. 3-4 months, if I could walk fine then I'd got to the convention rave as well, as long as I didn't try to go all out dancing. My friend had knee surgery when she was younger and years later, she dislocated her knee at a convention just by walking around but thankfully the staff there were super nice and kept checking up on her asking if she needed them to call an ambulance or if she needed icepacks or anything.

If there's one thing I've learned from conventions, it's if you're in trouble and need help do NOT ask hotel workers, rent-a-cops, or anyone else not part of the convention. Get a staff member or convention security because they'll take you more seriously and be more helpful because it's their event and their asses on the line if something happened. Everyone else would probably wave you off because it's not their job.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)15:32 No.5106525
    >>5106102
So did you actually ask the cops for help? Or just look meaningfully at them, waiting for them to read your mind?
Cause I'm sure their thought process was "well, if they need help, they'll ask for it". Plenty of people don't like cops butting in where they're not wanted. If you want help, ASK for it.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)17:31 No.5106821
All con raves are different and everyone expects something different from them.

Best rave experience: Go to rave, pounding dubstep, dance with friends for 3 hours straight until I dehydrate, get water and call it a night.

Worst rave experience: Go to rave, slow happy hardcore shit, can't dance or glowstick, sit on the side with friends talking and get harrassed by drunk assholes.

Take the good with the bad and keep attending. Who knows, you might actually find a good one and (gasp) have fun.
    >> Anonymous 10/27/11(Thu)17:36 No.5106837
Makes me laugh how you call it a 'rave'.

Implying a bunch of fat, sweaty cosplayers in a room humping and flailing to Japanese electronica is a 'rave'.

    Even worse when people brag.
'Yeah last night I was at x-cons RAVE. Yeah, I went to a RAVE.'

    Christ.

Because some cons welcome any source of additional income. Which is fine but it can be irritating when the rave organizers seem to forget it's an anime convention. If you invite a Japanese DJ who caters to otaku, then you know there's going to be lots of anime mixes. So why act as if it was a huge stinky surprise (who coulda known?) and bend over backwards to reassure complaining ravers "that DJ" will never be invited again?

This past year, the con I go to changed their DJ, who just basically played shitty remixes of popular music. Some dubstep, but it sucked.

I hate to sound weeaboo but it's just kind of stupid to have a dance at an anime convention and about 99% of the songs aren't even related to anime.

    Ugh. Con dances.

Generally, I go to just have fun with my friends.
But i fucking hate the dance circles of people that just RUN in the middle and fucking thrust in some way at someone or nothing.

At sakuracon '10 i kept getting guys trying to shove drugs down my throat just for politely waving as i passed them. And my friend, Of course ran off so i was alone and too creeped out to go back in.

My boyfriend back then was on duty at the door checking bags and things of that sort. He kept seeing people be pulled out for giving bjs and the like on the chairs.

The real best Con raves is when you love the music so much that you have to take a break from all the dancing, they you can't call it day and ending up staying all night long. That happened to me during Katsucon 14 and Anime USA 2007. When I was tired of dancing and taking photographs of the rave room I just sat around the circles where some of other ravers where sitting and just listened to the music.

But really con raves basically introduced me to all the music they usually play.

Con raves seem like they can be fun, but several reasons why I just skip out on them includes: My friends who aren't dancers they just stand there so that pretty boring. Then theres the drunk or high people (whether underage or not) stumbling all around like " HURR WE SNUCK ALCOHOL IN A WATER BOTTLE & WE'RE DRUNK". Seeing underage girls who are wearing shorts/skirts and a bra like they literally took off their shirts & said "IM READY FOR THE RAVE" is just awful. Then you have the idiots who bring their weapons in, swing it around, and hit someone, the music sucks, glowstick are broken on the floor and so much more.

I'm kinda tempted to go to ACen's rave in 2012 (first ACen) just to check it out, but I've heard mixed feelings about it from friends who've been so I'm kinda meh on going

I refuse to go to any con dance that doesn't have an age limit anymore. Fuck, REAL raves will do this now, so why can't conventions? Not only do you not have to deal with Nazi bullshit rules (such as the no physical contact bullshit at SanJapan of 08) but you also don't have to worry about the person your dancing with being fucking 15. Shit is dark in there; no one can tell.
    >> Anonymous 10/29/11(Sat)11:20 No.5110872
I've only gone to one con "rave" (Natsucon) and it was pretty damn mediocre. The dj was decent (he even has his own original mixes) and there were professional dancers on stage with him (man, I wish I could dance them). The bad side, which wasn't all that bad, was that he had to play mostly Japanese/anime stuff and at least remix them for the sake of the people who were there, and of course, the crowd was a bit lame. It seemed like the crowd thinned out, like 20 minutes into the event.

I've never gone to raves at bigger cons, but I never found them to be worth waiting in line for. I can hear the music just fine from the other side of the hotel. The BO, minors, bad music, and God knows what else doesn't really attract me; it's nice to meander the con when it's not as busy and it's usually worth checking out the late night/18+ panels.

First and only rave was Otakon's in 2010. I actually had a pretty good experience, although I was in one of the smaller rooms for most of the time. Danced a shit ton, got complemented on my dancing because I was a tiny girl who sat for half the time and no one expected I knew how to do more than awkwardly bounce my body from side to side.

There was this really excited black guy too, I think he was probably on something, but he knew how to party haha.

Also I like watching people at con raves. People decked out in hardcore cyberpunk and not dancing, people awkwardly grinding, and some of the outfits are just hilarious.

Dubstep is so bad for club dances, etc.
I only ever see people who can do slo-mo hiphop moves dance to dubstep well. It's really not a dance genre.
