10/26/11(Wed)19:15 No.5103806Okay…here’s my rough scouting guide:
The
best lunch place IMO is Elevation Burger. It has burgers, turkey
burgers, salads, etc. Baja Fresh is good, but don’t go there unless you
want the fire hose shits within the next couple hours. They also have a
Subway and a Ben & Jerry’s (as I said before).
Grace’s
Mandarin is the only other restaurant I’ve been too, it would be good as
a dinner place. Good Chinese food. I’ve never tried the hotel
restaurants, but I hear they’re pretty good too.
If you want
coffee, DON’T get it from the café at the Gaylord. They charge $6 for a
latte, $4 dollars for a regular cup. You’re much better off using the
in-room coffee pot. They have Starbucks coffee stands around the hotel
with free coffee, but you have to use your hotel key to access it.
Nothing
at National Harbor is cheap, especially at the hotel. So make sure you
bring enough money. If you forget a toothbrush or anything like that, go
to the CVS instead of buying it at the hotel store. You’ll save money.
The
hotel staff are generally nice, though there was one security guard who
was a total dick to me yesterday. I had accidentally trespassed a
private ASPPA conference meeting without realizing it, but other than
that I haven’t had a problem with them.
And they now have a Build-A-Bear workshop, which manages to entertain even adults.
A guide to the convention itself is a whole new story, I’ve only been to Katsucon one time, so I wouldn’t be much help there.
Sorry
if that was a lame guide. I can’t drive and it’s an hour-long walk from
my house so I don’t go very often, just often enough to know these
things. |
