Why do you cosplay? Don't give me vague answers like because its fun to do or just cause.
    I'm just generally curious.

But it IS something I find fun to do. That's the main reason I cosplay.

    I cosplay, therefore I am.

Ditto. It's fun. I find it fun to challenge the limits of my creativity and bring characters I love to life. Also, to oogle hot chicks.

The community. I find the cosplay community (or at least a good chunk of it) to be incredibly amazing, it's full of bros.

Also it is really entretaining the process of planning and making a costume of something you really like. And it is incredibly rewarding the day of the con when you get to use it and have a blast with it.

What is so fun about it like do you like having to put on a different person's image so in theory you wish to be that person you want to cosplay even just for a short period of time. Overall you want to become someone else you're not.

I bet you wear brand name clothes ironically.
    >> Anonymous 10/14/11(Fri)15:10 No.5064221
I like to show off my art in the form of props or a costume and meet other folks who are good at what they do and maybe learn a little something.

I don't do "In Character" except poses and stuff for photos. Can't stand the crazies who follow you around like lost puppies either constantly trying to roleplay with you or touching you either.

    That's really about it.
    >> Anonymous 10/14/11(Fri)15:13 No.5064225
    >>5064216
What are you talking about. Every thing has a brand on it. I think you're trying to say if I wear the main stream branding that everyone thinks makes them more than any other person. No.

    >>5064221
But that's just not it is it? You want to show off your art by putting it on yourself which would make people like you because of who you are portraying and not the actual you. So in a sense you dress up as someone else and people like you.
    >> Anonymous 10/14/11(Fri)15:20 No.5064250
    >>5064225

Well, I make everything so it's more like "Hey I'm a walking mannequin." Kind of like saying a gunsmith wants to be a gun. Not really. That being said, I don't like picking stuff that would make a fool out of me, so yeah I cosplay folks that I think are cool. That's kind of why it's worth putting hundreds of hours into making the cosplay in the first place.

Also I've had a number of cons where I just have someone else wear my stuff and I'm running PR. Damn hard to hold a good conversation with a helmet on sometimes.

People like what I make, not me. I try not to mix the two. That's a slippery slope.

    Art?
    >> Anonymous 10/14/11(Fri)15:24 No.5064271
    >>5064250
I understand what you're trying to say. You like creating good costumes but you don't necessarily do it so that people can like you but your work. This would apply to other people who cosplay because it makes then automatically likeable by other people because they like the character that he/she might be cosplaying. So in a way you do it so that people like you and accept you even though its not you that they like.

A firstgrader making a sketch is art. It's not classic art. It doesn't have any status....just like cosplay. You got a better word for it?
    >> Anonymous 10/14/11(Fri)15:31 No.5064285
Because I like costumes. Loved Halloween as a kid. Loved making things. Drawing, crafting, sewing....

so put those together. Cosplay's just an outlet of what I liked doing as a kid.
    >> Oshi !pkMVShM4AY 10/14/11(Fri)15:38 No.5064299
I simply like to make shit. Not just costumes, but I also cook, bake, code, etc.
Why wear it? To show off, to share what I've done and my pride for my work and my love of the character. That's human nature, to share a feeling of pride.

Its more like you get a pass to get liked when you cosplay and people automatically like you. You just want to get liked by people. Makes you feel wanted.
Why do I look down on the people who cosplay as EXPO's it feels sad looking at them.
    >> Anonymous 10/14/11(Fri)15:42 No.5064310

I just like wearing clothes that I normally wouldn't be able to wear without getting beaten up.

Being a silly nerd is always more fun in groups.

Cosplayers don't go to conventions just to like everyone in a costume, cosplayers don't dress up like characters because they have personality issues and cosplayers don't dress up in revealing outfits just to get over daddy issues.

Some exceptions are there, but there's exceptions to everything.

Most of the costumes I make don't show my face, so how can you say it makes them like me? They like my costume, they don't care about me.
And that's the way I like it.

I would say it applies to most cases.

    >>5064345
Still. Someone will like your work and like the character that you're portraying. You're making them like your through a proxy. Its more like an indirect likeness.

I always feel bad for people who's birthdays fall right on holidays. I think the Christmas ones are the worst.

Thankfully I managed to skim by and missing mine's being on Valentines day by two days.

The praise and approval, and being able to meet cool people. I try to make obscure cosplays to find people who like the same shows and games I like. Sad thing is I'm never able to come out of my shell even when in costume.

    first i find a character ...

I like the challenge of making the complicated parts of the suit , and show them later as props
( i do have a tendency to like either trenchcoat wearing characters , cyborgs , or henshin heroes ...and sometines a character has all of the above mentioned)

rght now i have either helped , or done for myself
-akatsuki hats , rings , and upgraded e-bay bought coats .
-one piece´s sogeking ( mask and slighshot staff)
    - final fantasy disidia , Jecht´s arm armour
-detective conan , kaito kid´s cardgun
    -skullman

    currently finishing raiden ( mgs4)

    next project :
    any of this
adam jensen- wild tiger armored suit - Alphasz ( zetman)

...lets see , trenchcoat 3/3, check
    ...cyborg 2/3 , check,
    ...complex as hell 3/3 check
