Even though brown eyes are the dominant gene, it's possibly for the kid to come out with blue eyes, even though its recessive. It's just a lower chance.

Yesterday my teacher was trying to explain how one can be delusional without fantasy elements (i.e. unicorns and fairies) because a student was confused.

I mentioned PT and the Japanese thing and she said "Now, we have to be sensitive in cases like that because just because they don't look it." And I gave up explaining.

Just curious anon, but can you do http://museum.thetech.org/ugenetics/eyeCalc/eyecalculator.html but instead of figuring out your children's eye color, pretend that you're the child in question. Fill out "Your Mother" and "Your Father" as if you're filling out for your mother's mother and your mother's father, then fill out "Mate's Father" and "Mate's Mother" as if you're filling out for your father's father and your father's mother. Then fill out "You" as your mother, and "Your Mate" as your father.
That way you should see what the chances were of you and your siblings having the eye colors that you said you guys have.
Right now I just pretended that your grandparents all have brown eyes, and your parents have blue eyes, and the calculator said that all of the children should have blue eyes, lol.

    >> Anonymous 10/13/11(Thu)22:03 No.5061999
My mother (And all of her ilk from both mother and father) are fair skinned, fair haired (Usually red-headed or light blonde), blue-blue eyes. She's got red hair, the fair skin and the bright blue eyes.

My biological father comes from a family which is fair/blue/blonde on his moms' side, and Mexican on his fathers' side (olive/brown/dark). He had green eyes, olive skin and dark hair.

My brother and I are both dark haired (He is fair skinned, mine is darker than fair, but not enough to be olive) but he has those amazing bright blue eyes, while I've got a so-called mutation which causes my eyes to appear blue-green-grey. My hair has red undertones, his is more of a cool-dark.

People used to think mom'd adopted us...

Genetics are weird, and I'm not just talking about eyes and hair. Height, too. And skin tone. Have a best friend who's so pale she blinds people, but there's only one other person in her family that pale, and they're two generations back!

Still- even with those genetic oddities, I would find it hard to believe at all that PT was in any way Asian--- let alone the half that she claims. Perhaps if there were a grandparent or great-grandparent who was blood related and asian, sure. Why not? But... I'm sure asking for a legit family tree from her would be a mistake.

I've never heard of genetic testing for race, and I'm not even sure how that would work. I'd love to get tested just so I could make out what my maternal grandfather's background was -- family disowned him so he never found out but could have been Russian, people tell me constantly that I look European. Makes me curious. My aunt also firmly believed my dad's family had traces of black ancestry and would have been delighted to hear it was true.

I also think I recall from an earlier thread that PT -did- use the Memoirs of a Geisha film as justification that sometimes Japanese have blue eyes, but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be surprised if she can't tell when certain Japanese idols/celebrities are wearing colored contacts either.

Yeah, I recall a post of hers doing exactly that, using the book/movie as reason/support for her having blue eyes.

The girl in the movie wore contacts, didn't know she was Korean. That movie was such an Asian mix :P

I wonder if her weird insistence on wearing brown contacts and claiming to dislike her lovely eyes (her only really good feature) is a weird sort of rebellion from her family. It seems like such an odd contradiction from someone who "just wants to be herself" and keeps saying "it's what I was born with" to go and change something like that.
But I guess it's stupid of me to try to analyze PT, she's fucking nuts.

It's a shame, here I am Asian and I wish I had pretty blue/light eyes instead of my boring brown ones. My boyfriend is Eurasian and he has such attractive greenish-hazel eyes, I'm so jelly.

Not just Zhang Ziyi, Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li were in there too...many of the main characters were Chinese. My gf insists over and over that Korean/Chinese/Japanese have totally different features and after years of being around Asians I'm finally starting to see it. It makes American films unintentionally hilarious sometimes (I've seen "Japanese" characters played by Mexicans, Koreans, Chinese, Caucasians wearing black hair dye, you name it.)

Bringing things back to the 'Haffu' argument for a moment.

I don't know about you guys, but where I come from "Halfer" is a pretty slanderous term for ANYONE who is mixed-race. Like, bordering on racist the way some people react to it.
For example. Little cockbags calling mixed-raced Indian/White people "Halfer" and then getting the shit kicked out of them. I've seen this shit happen.

And PT is weeaboo-ising this insulting slur to make it sound cutesy/kawaii desu? I mean seriously. Haffu. What the flying fuck fucking hell fuck me.

According to my friend (who's Chinese/Japanese, for reference), Koreans are more likely to have less prominent facial features when viewed in profile. You also see more of them with rounder/broader faces and proportionately smaller eyes. Japanese seem to have more angular or "western" looking faces; Asians with really prominent cheekbones, narrow faces or western-looking noses tend to be Japanese.

This all sounded like racist nonsense to me, but we were watching a special on North Korean refugees hiding out in China and she was explaining that there's no mistaking the refugees for natives, even if they don't talk.

There are Asians that cross boundaries, and there is no specific look that encompasses any Asian nationality. If Gong Li had another name, came from Japan, and said she was Japanese nobody would question it even if she "looks" typically Chinese.

I would also warn that there is a huge difference between Asian celebrities and the actual population. That, added to the aforementioned variation, always makes me hesitant to say that there are specific "looks" to different nationalities.

I myself am Asian, and while I can often make pretty good guesses, I'm often easily wrong.

Also, a lot of Filipinos really don't look all that Mexican to me. I don't really get people saying that tbh. A lot of them are mixed, I guess, and since Eurasians can sometimes look sort of Mexican I guess that's where it comes from? A lot of Filipinos are "surprisingly" pretty East Asian looking.

As for the "halfu" thing, not everyone takes great offense to that. Honestly, I'm from a pretty damn multicultural area and I'm mixed myself, so I never took offense to it nor did any of my mixed friends. How is calling someone mixed race an insult anyway? Is it a British thing or?

Sounds like delusional weeaboo to me. Japanese people's faces cave INWARDS when viewed in profile. They have severe receding chins. I've never seen a person believe they were something they weren't so...strongly. I dont understand it. If a japanese person told her to her face that she wasn't Japanese, and that she had no qualities/etc to be Japanese would that break her heart? At first I felt bad for this girl but the fact that she's so delusional I want her feelings to be hurt, and her dreams crushed so she'll stop acting like such an idiot.

Yes, it's possible to be part Japanese/asian and have very limited features but not in this case. My boyfriend is half japanese and he was born with blond hair, and his mother who is full japanese is a brunette. His hair is currently dark brown. I can identify between Chinese, Korean, and Japanese under the age of 30. Generally Japanese are 'prettier'; not that they're necessarily physically gifted but that they put a lot more care into their appearance/makeup to look good. Chinese (especially the girls) all try to look like each other in a mopy mess and either ugly makeup or don't try at all. Koreans...this is really hard to explain, but they're usually on the same level makeup-wise with the Chinese, yet there's something very subtle about their facial features that look foreign from the Chinese.

Oh, then there are the Vietnamese and Filipino. Vietnamese are shorter darker flatter-faced versions of Chinese (if any of them look remotely whiter taller, it's just because their parents moved to Vietnam within their lifetime). Filipino is a similar case, in that if they look Chinese, their parents are ethnically Chinese. I have never met a 'native' Filipino.

Whoever thinks japanese people have "inverted" faces are fucking high on some dank-ass shiet.
In my opinion, japanese and chinese have the prettiest face. Koreans definitely the ugliest (worse than south asians) since their faces have the shape of dishes and are super plain. I'm talking about the REAL koreans, not about the ones you see on tv with 9309403493 surgeries and 394034903 pounds of makeup. Yes, the japs get surgeries too and makeup but not as bad as koreans.

Really? IDK where you live, but around where I live the Chinese girls are either natural, nerdy, white-washed, or VERY well made up. Sometimes ulzzang-y. The Korean girls we have where I live are pretty FOB and I can usually tell them apart by how they dress/wear their hair. This is all generally speaking, though.
Where I live, how to identify the average Korean male:
    -broad-shouldered or "bigger" build
    -thick chin
    -darker skin
    -polo/t-shirt

But that is about two parents who each have a 'brown eyes' gene and a 'blue eyes' gene.
They can have a blue-eyed child because the child can get the 'blue eyes' gene from both of their parents.
If one parent is pure Asian they would only have 'brown eyes' genes. As >>5061664 said, both parents would have to have a blue-eyed ancestor somewhere down the line for the child to have blue eyes.

"Although not common, two blue-eyed parents can produce children with brown eyes, says Richard A. Sturm, a Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.

Eye color is a complex trait that depends on the state of several interacting genes. The gene that usually decides the issue (blue eyes or brown eyes) is the OCA2 gene on chromosome 15. But it comes in different strengths. A person with a weak form of the OCA2 gene will have blue eyes. Likewise a person with a strong form will have brown eyes.

The plot thickens, though, because an individual also has other eye-color genes that each has a say in the final eye-color outcome. For example, if one of these lesser genes is strong, it can make the weak form (blue) of OCA2 work much more effectively — almost like the strong form (brown). Then the eye color may be a light brown or muddy grey. In fact, the resulting color can be any shade of brown, hazel/green, or blue depending on the strengths of the interactions.

Yes, Frederick. Two brown-eyed parents can have a blue-eyed child. In fact, this is fairly common."

There is a lot of difference in the potential genetics of a half asian and a quarter asian.

Let's call the black hair gene "B", and the blonde hair gene "b".
If a Japanese person with BB genes marries a blonde with bb genes and they have a child, let's call her Sarah, Sarah could only end up with a B gene from their Japanese parent and a b gene from the blonde parent: Bb. Because B is dominant, a half asian child will always have black hair.
If sarah grows up and has a child of her own, as long as the father has a b gene, there's a 1/4 chance of Sarah's child being blonde, even though she if a quarter Japanese. If the father is blonde, there's a 1/2 chance of Sarah's child being blonde.

For someone who is a quarter Japanese to be blonde isn't too amazing, but for a halfu to be blonde means some freaky mutation has gone on, because they could not have inherited blonde genes from their asian parent, and for a recessive gene like blonde hair both parents need to have the gene for their child to be blonde.

It's a bit ridiculous to say that one nationality of Asians is more attractive than others.

I think it really comes down more to style, and I prefer Chinese (ignoring all the dorky, badly dressed ones) because they tend to be a bit more natural/conservative in their fashion and makeup. I think modern Korean and Japanese fashions can be a bit over the top and kind of ugly (I mean every day type stuff).

East Asians are not naturally white, nor do all of them bleach the shit out of themselves/avoid sun. Yes, it is the mark of rich/fashionable people so it's probably why we see it more but there are plenty of Japs out there that are naturally (even without going in the sun all that much) dark skinned and could easily be considered Flips.

It really depends on where the Chinese ancestry came from. There are certain tribes in China that carries the lighter hair gene (not blonde, just a lighter shade of black, even going into brunettes) Due to a lot of mixing, a lot of Han Chinese (the most dominate tribe of Chinese, and most all the Chinese you've met) carries this lighter hair/rounder eyes/higher cheekbones as a recessive gene. So sometimes, it is possible for half Chinese to look not Asian. Hell, I've seen pure blooded Chinese who looks like they are mixed.

I know it's not the point, but I just want to mention that haffu is based on the word "half", not "halfer". It's just that Japanese words can't end with a consonant other than 'n', so 'haffu' gets a 'u' tacked on the end just for the sake of having a vowel there. The 'u' would probably be barely pronounced if you said it out loud.

I don't know, "halfer" just somehow sounds far more offensive to me than "half", so I wanted to point out that they aren't trying to say that.

Just throwing out there that my family's Vietnamese, and our facial features are pretty varied. I don't thin there's any French or foreign genes in our family, but with the French occupation and Vietnam war, it's a possibility in my mother's side, but we can't prove it.

My Dad -> thick eyebrows, smaller monolid eyes, dark skin that's light because no sun, low cheekbones, flatter nose, amazing lips. He doesn't look very Vietnamese, like there's something about his face that just doesn't fit stereotypes.
My Grandmother -> Monolid eyes, fair skin, curly hair, flat nose, fairly big boobs.

My Mom -> high cheekbones, fair skin, double eyelids, but very thin hair. he nose isn't flat, it's very caucasian. Giant natural boobs, which her family tends to have.

My sister -> Dark skin and she has mostly mom's face. High cheekbones, double eyelids, but she has gorgeous strong eyebrows. She's still very young, but I doubt she'll have big boobs.

My brother -> Looks Mexican, but he inherited my Dad's side with tiny eyes and hooded eyelids. Strong eyebrows too.

    Me -> hooded eyelids, strong eyebrows, but I've been told that my lips are amazing. Of my siblings I was the only one born fair, and I darkened-up later in life. Low cheekbones, and freakishly tall for the asians in my area. 5'5" is scary shit, apparently. And, to my mom's lolz, I'm flat chested. Why.jpg. ;__;

My father is very tall, dark brown hair, hazel colored eyes.

My sister is tall (6'), light blond hair and piercing grey blue eyes.

I think it was her being drunk and having sex with some guy while the webcam was on and streaming to a video chat with some seagulls. It was apparently pretty bad sex and it went on for 15 minutes.

I just realised something. PT is almost exactly like Linda La Hughes from Gimme Gimme Gimme.

    >Boorish, unattractive Linda is convinced she is a "stunner"; Linda is an unattractive middle-aged woman who usually wears flamboyant clothing. Linda grabs any opportunity to bluntly flirt with any man she sees. She is delusional about her appearance; in the Series 3 episode "Trauma," she's finally diagnosed with reversed body dysmorphic disorder. Her age is uncertain but has given herself many young ages e.g. 16, 18, 19, 23 and 28. Her own Mummy died when she was a child, and her Daddy hides from her, although she thinks he's in an iron lung.

Just replace the names and "iron lung" with Japan and you have PT. Linda is supposed to be an extremely exaggerated, cartoony character, to know someone exactly like her really exists is quite disturbing...

I wonder if she was ever normal for any period of time.
    >> Anonymous 10/14/11(Fri)14:03 No.5064087
So..I tried to think about it.

if PT were in the porn industry, she'd be that really awkward porn star who would ALWAYS give eye contact to the camera and make a duck face or some form of uguu face.

    Picture it.

As a kid she must have been fairly normal. She's been obsessed with Japan since she was quite young but that's not really weird since most kids go through phases of being obsessed with things they like. Most grow out of it and learn to be more mature about their hobbies, not PT though.

She is just determined to not grow up. I think the older she got, the more she realised she's not a special snowflake and was expected to be more responsible for herself. But rather than accept this like a normal person, she's refused and attempted to remain a child. She talks alot about her childhood, looking/feeling young, she's even into ageplay because it makes her feel younger. Her attitude is that of a bratty kid, very self centred, attention seeking, can't handle criticism, stubborn, it's like she can't comprehend the world beyond her own nose. She seems to have been quite spoiled by her parents too, which hasn't helped matters.

The older she gets, the more desperate and delusional she becomes. She fixates on Japan because it's easier than dealing with reality. I really wonder what will happen if she finally manages to go. It's not going to match up to her childhood dreams and she's won't find the acceptance and sucess she wants. I can see her having some sort of mental breakdown because she's going to have no choice but to admit that she's wasted so much of her life.
