I used to work in a department store on my days off from university. Graduated and moved back to my home town and the fucking store went bust and shut down. Currently have no job and can't find one in my shitty town that isn't 'Polish employees only'. I shit you not, half our stores will only employee Polish. Wouldn't be so bad if I were in y'know, Poland. I live in fucking England. Nothing against Polish, just annoying that you can't get hired in my town if you aren't one.

Part time retail here. I get a pretty nice hourly wage, but not so many hours.

I make 15~16 dollars an hour(this is just me converting currencies here though), but if I'd be working on towards later hours I get 50% more of my hourly, pay per hour hour. On a Sunday, I get double per hour.

I work on the Air ramp. Manager came in one day and offered it to me one day when I asked what the maintenance man was doing. Well, that and I kind of fixed the conveyor belt without qualifications.

I'm still paid the same rate I am as a package handler, I just have special training on what to do is the plane goes apeshit during take off, and I get to ride in a white pick up truck onto the ramp if I feel like it.

The tool box is supplied by the rented WWII hangar we used (it's actually pretty derelict, but UPS is jews.), it's got it's soldering iron, reflecting jacket, wrenches, disposable ear buds and what not. But for the most part, all I really use is the orange traffic batons to marshal in the plane to the run way. My rate started out at 8.50 but moved up quickly to 9.50, by the start of next year, it should be 10.25 and then it goes up a dollar every year after that. It's a part time job, so I'm working four hours, but everything after five is pretty much time and a half. There have been times where the plane has been late before (usually because of fog) , hell this Weds they had me stay until 1 in the afternoon just to unload it. I can't complain though, it was pretty much free money for me since 7 of the 8 hours we stayed were pretty much downtime.

Yeah, that pretty much summarizes it. I'm cool with it though, it gives me time to pretty much work out and get my studies done. UPS has a work agreement with Devry, and since that means I can abuse Tuition reimbursement from UPS without having to pay any of it until after I graduate from Devry (once again, thanks to UPS) I pretty much get a free 3k to dick around with every semester or so. So it evens out for me. :V

School library media specialist earning approx $3650/mo. Also ok with this since most people in my area earn min. wage. There's a huge military base in the area too so that has inflated prices. Basically you need a 2-income household at min.wage or work in education to survive. It's kind of lame actually.

While it's not always sweet roses trying to teach some of the rowdy, pompous high school kids, the pay, benefits, and schedule/work day is pretty ballin'.

My DM got hired from outside the company not too long ago and doesn't know what he's doing 1/2 the time and keep hiring his friends to take management positions instead of promoting from within...

I'm also a student working on my master's degree which is fun to shock GS customers with. Some don't believe me or think I have my degree names confused. I'm trying to be a teaching aid or substitute, but all the districts in my area are only hiring people who are already working within the district >:(

I get off by 2pm because I start so early, my schedule never changes so I always have my weekends free, and my husband pays for nearly all the bills.
All I earn goes to groceries, my small debt, and the rest on whatever I like.

It wouldn't be feasible if I was trying to sustain myself off this job, but as it is? It gets me out of the apartment.

Ee, that sucks. If it makes you feel any better my old district was fucked up too. The DM pushes reservations like mad and the store managers that I knew would tell GA's to do basically anything to get people to preorder things, including disabling automatic promotions and then offering them in exchange for preorders. My old SM wouldn't schedule me unless I complained because he was having an affair with a girl at another store and his wife knew about it, and told him he wasn't allowed to work with girls. Thankfully when I started going to uni I transfered to a much better district. My new SM just moved to IL a week ago, but he was absolutely fantastic and I couldn't have asked for a better manager. The entire store here is great and puts much more emphasis on CE than anything else, which is really how it should be. I get to work with my new SM for the first time tonight, he used to work in my old district which makes me a little worried though.

    EB Games/Gamestop bros fuck yeah!

Yeah I work at EB Games. Been working there for 4 years and even trained my current manager. I don't want to get promoted because dealing with upper management BLOWS and my boss is always stressing and like hell I wanna get into that with some shitty retail job. Just not worth it.

I'm part of the lolshittyDM crowd too. My DM doesn't know shit about anything since he was hired from outside the company. He hates me because I have worked here for so long and he can probably sense my disdain for him. He is a crazy pusher for numbers: "Guys getting 200 Batman preorders in a strip store with 2 other stores 5 min away from you should be EASY. Nevermind the fact that CoD only just broke 100 presells". "Guys the 3DS is coming out today you need a UPT(units per transaction) of at least 3.0 with a 40% GPG(warranty) amount." I just laugh. He also consistently makes stupid spelling errors like Dues Ex and LA Niore.

Other than that my boss is a bro, a sometimes perverted bro, but I've known him from before he was hired so he's cool. My ASM is relatively new, but he's awesome and we talk about music and rage about my coworkers. My coworkers consist of: an Italian wannabe mobster drug pusher who regularly gets in a rage at other coworkers for not taking his shift in less than a days notice and throws shit inside the store, a spoiled ONLY WoW playing daddy's girl who only works here because her dad gives her money to hold a job, and an old friend from elementary school who is dating the daddy's girl (and he's TOTALLY RIDICULOUSLY whipped). Basically I hate my other SAs. I'm a keyholder so I regularly get to work with alll of them~

He wanted minimum 40% GPGs on anything that you could add it to. It's kinda ridiculous trying to sell a GPG on a DS/3DS game. The best you can try to sell them on is we cover if it goes through the washer. And even that won't kill a cartridge sometimes. When I started working here numbers were great to have, but they were not nearly as important as they are now. In the last year working here has gotten worse, probably because we've started Gamestop's policy of NO NUMBERS NO HOURS.

It's sometimes hard to sell for PS3 games, because customers know about the bluray scratch coating. It's easier on Wii games and 360 games. 360 especially because lolcirclescratch. It's a bitch though because we get so many non native English speakers and they don't understand what a GPG is. They only understand how much they have to pay. Or they bring their kid to translate. That gets REALLY annoying sometimes. On an average day I must hear 5-6 different languages.

Yea I did talk to him. He said he would put me on a"devolopment plan." That was like 6 months and 3 managers ago. In this last year I've have 4 managers. (I think my current one is a keeper tho! FINALLY)

My store is the store NO ONE wants. My DM has tried to bribe other managers to take it and no one wants it. It's sooo fucking busy. We're a very trade heavy store and pretty much take trades/process them all day and constantly ship them out because there is no room. We get the most hours in our region...

Thankfully reserves is something we don't even have to try with. We just ask "do you want to preorder this?" and we hit our goals. Now PUR is a bitch for us tho...

I wouldn't mind being the ASM because my customers are actually cool and I'm used to how crazy busy we are. my team is actually awesome too so it wouldn't be bad at all. We were without a manager for like 3 months and just got a new manager a month ago. So during that time my ASM was manager and I was pretty much the ASM anyways because the other SGA at my store fails (he just quit tho, so yay) and the third SGA just got promoted...so he didn't know what he was doing.

And GL with the new manager! :)

I usually just tell those who don't understand, by showing them a broken disc then a new one, then tell them how much it is. Some get it, some don't.
None of the consoles, such as the PS3, 360 and Wii are too hard to add a GP to as the games are about 80-100 dollars on release where I'm at. Some people say no of course, but alot would rather not pay that sum again, because they don't know where to fix them, and because they'd rather not spend the same sum again.
It's heartbreaking having to deal with those who didn't get it and tell me it doesn't work, only to see a ginormous scratch on the disc.

Do you guys still have the DVDs?No one really wants GP on that, and the DVDs are included on the GP statistics here, meaning the numbers can go down real fast through one transaction.

Oh man I have worked here too long and been bitched at for not selling GPGs way too much to give ANY fucks if some kid comes in with a scratched disk and doesn't have a GPG. I explain what we cover and yeah we have a circle scratched 360 disk to show off as well. If you don't wanna pay $3 to cover your damn $70 game then suit yourself. I am even nice enough to tell them to keep the damn receipt and put it in the case/someplace safe.

But seriously fuck these people who scratch their games. Man I NEVER. EVER. EVER. scratched ANY of my games bad enough so they didn't work. I had a PS1 and a PC back when I was very young too so it's not like I only lived off cartridges. And all of those still work too! Hell, I still play some of the first PC games I ever owned. I really like the CE surveys as a way of evaluating employees over the usual res/sub thing. Happy customers will come back and buy things and give more business, customers that are annoyed by how pushy you are for them to preorder or sign up for GI will not. Not to mention I've noticed that most of the customers that come in are families with kids looking for games as opposed to the stereotypical Gamestop neckbeard customer, and families are a lot less likely to preorder things but super easy to make happy if you're nice to their kid and help them find something they like. You do have to be careful though if your DM is serious about complains. My old third key got fired because a customer exaggerated something that he said to make it sound like it was a personal attack on her. (Basically he said Jillian Michaels looks like a man, and the customer was a lesbian and complained that he said she was a dyke). But basically greet customers on the floor, when they check out ask if they want to pre-order/sign up for GI, say it's alright if they don't want to, highlight the survey on the bottom of the receipt and thank them for their purchase and BAM you are now an awesome employee.

I don't like the surveys because our DM has a habit of ignoring any positive things we do. I just know how much fun my boss is gonna have with my DM if we get ONE bad review.

I get along with neckbeards better than families. I fucking hate clueless parents and kids. Hell, kids are dumb. They come up with some game they know shit all about and I say "Hey, do you know anything about this game? No? Why are you buying it? What if you don't like it? That's money you could spent on something you actually liked. Go home and research what you want." Might as well do the parenting for the ones who aren't there to do it.

And then there's the fucking parents who come in and say "I need a game for my kid. He's 6. I don't know what he likes. I don't know what he already has. I'm a shitty parent." I just shove a shitty movie game in their face and say it's popular. Or more like 12 movie games, since they always wanna see more though I can TELL they don't even know what they are looking at. Yeah I'm pretty bitter.

The neckbeards are nice. They understand gamespeech and talking them into a preorder isn't that bad. We don't get too many neckbeards though. We get a TON of quiet asians.

So weird to see how the focuses are different in other areas. I would think that corporate would have some sort of standard and put everyone on the same thing. But apparently it ranges from region to region.

And yea my DM is super serious about complaints, but as much as I dont like the guy, he can tell when a customer is exaggerating and such. Now if he would only give me my developmental plan...

What pisses me off with my DM mos is he pretty much just breaks every policy to make a customer happy. We return xb360 circle scratched CDs within the 30 days. I know stores that wont without a GPG. I've also returned sooo many consoles without a warranty. I returned a damn xb360 that was 2 years outside the warranty because the DM said to in order to make the customer happy. I can't even stand my ground and say "sorry its store policy" to rude as fuck customers because my DM will tell me to break the policy and apologize. We rarely get recognition for positives from our DM, but my old SM would post the comments in the back room and we usually get extermely positive ones. Almost everyone person at my store has been working there for 4+ years and the only turn over is with the holiday help people so we have a very good relationship with our customer base.

I don't mind the families when they're polite and at least have a semi-formed idea of what they're looking for. I hate the families with kids that run around the store destroying the spined sections (especially Wii, because that's where the kids go) and the parents don't do anything about it. There's one family that comes in every time I'm working and specifically ask for me, but I can't stand them because the kids are completely out of control and whine and whine and whine the entire time they're in the store. The real gamers always seem really awkwarded out when I try to talk to them for some reason, but I get a lot of bro's trying to talk to me about COD and Halo when I'm more of an RPG kind of girl and then they think I don't know shit about vidja gaemz for not enjoying trash talking faceless strangers because I killed them in a game. I'm just not a competitive person, I strongly prefer a good story in a game and it makes me sad that there's so much focus on making games that are basically mediums for people to kill eachother and feel like they have massive epeens for half a second.

I work front desk at a hotel catering mainly to long-term residents. It's like being an RA for adults. It's not a bad job, but I'm paid minimum wage and my boss is very inexperienced, which has led to high employee turnover. (He got the job because he's the owners' son.)

On the weekends, I DJ in nearby cities for $20/hour.

Bwahaha oh man I have a 100 of those stupid dickhead bro stories at the store. Two of my favorites:

    >Black Ops Midnight release last year
    >Line is practically gone, in the parking lot picking up trash
    >Random guy stares at me for a second and goes "Hey, you wanna party?"
    >Blank stare
    >"Oh, I don't play video games. I'm just here with my friend."
    >I'm like "Uhh.. is that supposed to impress me? I work at a video game store."
    >Exchange glances with my ASM who is holding back laughter
    >Bro proceeds to give me his address because he's like, having parties all the time man and you should come get drunk with us, girl

    >Three kinda ghetto dudes come into the store to trade in
    >First guy goes "Shiiiiiiiiiittt, whatchu doin' workin' here? You play video games?"
    >I'm like "Uh, yeah."
    >"You play Cawadooty? Madden? NBA? You shoot hoops?"
    >"Not really."
    >"Oh man, so you like, play Wii right? Mario Kart? Sims? That kind of shit right?" laughing with his friends.
    >"I haven't touched my Wii in years, but my favorite current-gen game series is Assassin's Creed. I also really like Portal 2 and Civ V lately."
    >Proceeds to laugh at me with his friends.
    >I'm like wtf I'm playing decent, well developed games and you think you're cool for exclusively playing games that come out every year with minor improvements wat

No man he was some stupid white blond jock looking faggot wearing some sports tshirt. And he was honestly stupid, because he asked us if we were from around here. Were we from the area that our minimum wage retail store is located in. I probably couldn't hold in my 'are you a fucking idiot' look. When we said we were he was happily surprised and his poor friend just said "well of COURSE they are from around here."

Then he proposed we make a WoW guild of people from my city because it was SO CRAZY that we were from the same huge fucking suburban city and he would give us 200g if we gave him a discount. And I said "200g? Dude you could make that in like an hour or less." He offered to give his account with his 'rouge' then I said if it hasn't got a Burning Crusade CE code no thanks.

i know a couple who are swingers (i.e. they go to sex parties sometimes and have sex with other people) and they've been happily married for 15 years. the wife goes a lot more than the husband and he doesn't mind.

The drama is with the co-workers and the owners of said pets.
    Mostly the co-workers. We're a a small, family owned, all-female clinic.

    >AHMIGAWD JELLO, the doctor was going around telling everyone how you undercharged someone for an x-ray!
[Turned out I didn't even do it, my manager was on my account by mistake]

    >ahmigawd I hate the new girl! djhfskhfshf

    >Ahmigawd co-worker Z said this and then I told co-worker A who was like "FUCKTHATBITCH" so then co-worker A did this to co-worker Z

I was actually hiding in x-ray one day, just filing stuff and my co-worker comes in, takes the ball of rubber bands from me and throws it on the floor and goes "I HATE HER SO MUCH."

[Yes, it did bounce if anyone was wondering.]

Yeah, its not the greatest, and its one of the small stores with a limited selection. Both of Texas' two major fashion schools are a mile away from eachother, and right down the street. I don't know why we have such a shitty selection. But every now and then, something nice pops up. They're trying. Most of us Denton fashion kids traverse into Dallas anyhow to go to the fabric warehouses for designer fabrics. Hancock is about an hour away, so might as well go to Dallas.
