Dunno man, I'm a little ill at the moment, so my "give a crap" function is slow, but yeah, I still have a commission to work on for NYCC, but the fabric hasn't arrived yet. Luckily it's a jacket, vest and pants, which usually take me less than a week to make, or else I'd really be panicking by now o.O

I just started having precon dreams at the last few cons. Mostly waking up in a hotel room with my fave cosplayers. But I always end up leaving my planned cosplay at home some few hundred miles away.
Right now I'm just sweating getting my own cosplay done and doing a friend a favor.

You're a troll, but children starving in Africa is something the scale of which beggars the mind and most of the people involved in this thread are hardly at a point financially where they could devote themselves to such issues.

It's also a scale at which it is an almost practical impossibility to solve completely due to a staggering number of complexities in each specific area such as ongoing drought, civil war, uncontrolled population growth, etc.

I always have some kind of dream where I'm afraid of being late for the con. It would usually involve me not having my stuffed packed up (and I'm often searching for clothes in the dark) and my friends driving off without me. :(

Luckily, I usually pack for cons involving road trips ahead of time, and I usually do the driving.

I had reserved a hotel room 11 months in advance for a con. Great location, it's only 1 block from the con.

I get a voice mail from the hotel 6 weeks before the con: "We're sorry, the hotel will no longer be operating on the date you have reserved..."
I nearly flipped out, except it continued: "... your reservation has been transferred to one of our other locations."

That worried me. I wasn't renting a car & would have to walk at night, potentially alone. I come to find out it's a hotel 10 blocks away. Shit sucked. I ended up paying a lot of money for taxi service every night because the neighborhood was too dangerous to walk through.

I was glad it all worked out in the end, but I had never heard of a hotel shutting down like that.

There's actually something called a transient ischemic attack (TIA) that mimics some of the symptoms of a stroke, but is a temporary thing that can reside by itself. It can be an indicator that a stroke is in your future, but it alone really isn't a life-changing problem.

You taking LIRR right? If manhattan is only one stop away then just try to take a train back at a reasonable time.

I would've recommended trying to find someone who could rent a room out to you for the con or something so you could attend the after parties and all that but still have someplace nearby to rest, shower, and change clothes. I just don't think there is enough time to find a good enough person for that now.

Do it now, there's no guarantee that there will be anything in any of the host hotels by November. The Hyatt is technically the last one, the Westin might still have rooms. There's a link in the D*con wiki under the Westin page. I would go for it since its a much more chill hotel, and way cheaper than the Hyatt (the estimate people are thinking is around $190-210 before tax). My only concern now is coordinating roommates but it shouldn't be too hard.

Time to sleep in the rental car and get a local gym membership to shower.

Which is why I only did SDCC back in the day.
But I got too many recommendations to go to D*C to ignore it.
I'd stay with my ex but I think she lives like two hours away from ATL.

Ok. Here are your options on finding a room:
    > Check a secondary website (Kayak, Hotels.com, etc).
    > Call the hotel and speak to someone.
    > Research hotels that are near the convention - there are quite a few within 1-2 blocks of the con.

I just would suggest booking a room soon.

I already booked my room at the Westin, and I'm very relieved.

    What's near the con?
I'm on Expedia right now, looking for other options.

My ex just told me anything in the downtown area....like I know what's there....

    >pick up tickets for a con
    >drive home
    >can't find tickets anywhere
    >retrace my steps and look for tickets
    >can't find them
    >SUDDENLY one week before the con
    >decide to finally buy more tickets
    >paying a toll on the way back from work the next day and drop a coin on the floor of my car
    >I look under my seat........

I find my old tickets right there underneath the passenger side seat along with my coin. I was mad at first for not finding them there in the first place but it turned out better then expected and I just invited some people that normally wouldn't go to a con and now they go every year.
