I cosplay for fun. This doesn't mean I half ass my costumes, I complete them nicely and they're not shitty quality either. But I do follow popular fandoms. I've jumped from here to there, for the fun. I like having a huge group at a con where I am immediately welcomed into. You get quick friends who share similar interests as you, and most importantly: it's fun.

People seem to look down on people who do this, but how is it wrong?

Some people here take cosplay way too seriously. There's nothing wrong with what you do at all.

I have no fun with people who cosplay for fun, thats why I do it.

I just don't like people who do bad cosplays/really big inaccuracies then when someone calls them out on that they get all butthurt and say it's all for fun...
It annoys me so damn much.

The general hate here is people who do bad costumes, expect to be treated like awesome cosplayers, and throw a fit yelling "COSPLAYS ONLY FOR FUN" when people tell them they dont look good.

I've got nothing wrong with you and am happy you enjoy your hobby. To a degree we all do it for fun, if we didnt enjoy it we wouldnt do it.

The other hate is directed towards the sunshine brigade who try to jam the "for fun" mantra down everyones throats and throw a stink because people take the hobby more seriously than them.

I think your misinterpreting what people around here mean by for fun. We work hard on our costumes, fandom doesnt matter to much though some come with some stigmas, huge groups arent always a bad thing, and friends are nice. I'm willing to say some folks here on /cgl/, fellow cosplayers, are friends. And I'm friends with a good amount of people in my community who cosplay. And I have fun with my cosplay.

TL;DR, we have fun with cosplays too, we just dont like people using it as an excuse. I cant speak for all cosplayers or /cgl/lers, but that's my point on it.

You are trying to be as true as you can to the original, getting stuff wrong is obviously not the same as the original character.

I am sick of seeing people get all whiny when someone tells them that the cospaly isn't exactly right. I am all for having fun when cosplaying, if I wasn't having fun i probably wouldn't be doing it.

bad cosplayers can't expect the same reaction good cosplayers get. It doesn't work that way
