    your point is?

When was the last time you fondled a performer at a concert? or even shook their hand, touched them in any way?

You got to look at the medium here: Video, and audio - television, internet, radio, cd. to the consumer, how is a synthetic performer any different from a real one?

    Take another example: Dethklok
It's composed of animated characters. Is this band real? Does it matter?

What about lip syncing at a concert. The performer isn't actually singing. How is that any different?

There's only a few vocaloid songs that I would consider good on their own merit without the handicap of being robovoices. Mainly Secret Poilce and Matryoshka because they're ridiculous and Rolling Girl because its amazing.

Perhaps Episode 0 because Gackt made into a single and cosplayed Gakupo

A lot of the heavily cosplayed songs like Magnet and Black Rock Shooter are actually pretty terrible.

Many REAL performs do shit like that. They sign auotographs, take photos with fans and do others things to physically interact with them. How many times do you see in a performance the lead singer reaching below the stage and giving their fans high fives?

Have you BEEN to a live show, bands always improv and alter their performance based off of crowd feedback. They'll do longer solos, switch off vocals or even stop playing and have the audience sing the chours. Can a Volcaloid switch their performance right on the fly? Can they actually touch and connect with their fans spiritually?

Yeah 5 or 6. Not many, but from what I've seen sometimes the group interacts with fans, others the security guards formed a wall keeping us like 10 feet from stage.

I never realized the chance to high-five a performer, or have your bra caught and tossed back was the defining experience for concert goers.

It's so frustrating watching reactions to Vocaloid when people act like human beings have had nothing to do with the creation of the music.

People wrote it, made the instrumentals, programmed the voice, so it's not like it came out of fucking nowhere. Side ponytail girl gets it, at least.

That's why when I talk about Vocaloid music, I say I like livetune, Hachi, millstones, fatman, and OSTER Project, not just LOL I LIKE MIKU!!! which is about a vague as saying "I LIKE PIANO!"

    >I never realized the chance to high-five a performer, or have your bra caught and tossed back was the defining experience for concert goers.

We're not just talking about just "super popular" performers. Just the notion of live performance and the idea of itself. Ever show in every city is different for a live band. Compare that to Volcaloid concerts where the music has the same inflection, tones and sound as the original. Can a Volcaloid high five its fans like you see in MANY live shows, can a volcaloid stage dive into the audience? Can a volcaloid interact with their crowd by throwing trash back into the audience or recreate the magic of a jam session being thought up on the fly?

Yeah, but compare it to going to see a movie instead. A movie is the same every time you watch it, but you still go to a movie theater to see it. I kinda see it the same way. Just because it's not the same as a live performer doesn't make it not cool to see. But I like shiny new uses of technology, so I guess I'm biased.

this was the point I was about to make. When I went to see Dethklok in concert it was the same sort of thing. You have a musician performing for the characters onscreen. The Gorillaz are, in fact, real musicians elsewhere with the characters onscreen representing their sound, but just because the music coming out of Miku's holographic mouth is composed with a program, that's just like any other instrument in a way, no?

Honestly I found this video really entertaining despite being a Vocaloid fan, haha. These kids are great, the little girl with the braid made me d'aww.

Oh my fucking god, where do I start?

First there was the jackasses in front me who were in the front row of the second level stadium seating. They were in the font row, yet they insisted on standing the entire concert because that's how people in GLORIOUS NIPPON watched the concert, meaning the entire fucking section of the seating had to stand in order to see anything. Some of us kept yelling "SIT DOWN!" once it was quiet. About 3/4ths the way through the concert, she finally took the hint.

After the concert was over, there were weebs complainging that they paid $200 to $500 for their seats from scalpers and were pissed that they got bad seats.

There ere others who I overheard saying that they shouldn't have had the concert if the visual range of Miku was so poor, even though AX originally sold just enough tickets to fill Mikus sweet spot range, but the weebs pushed to fill the entire theater, so they did.

Other complaints I overheard were saying that the concert should have been in Club Nokia, which I went to after the concert because I was curious, and it would have REALLY sucked to have it in there. There would have been room for Miku, but not the live band, not to mention it was just crowded for the rave.

Fuck Club Nokia. It's great for the rave but I hope they never hold another concert there. Kalafina was packed and I had a shitty view that was made worse by one faggot with glowsticks, something that didn't happen at the Miku concert even with many more faggots and many more glowsticks.

At first people didn't think rock and roll was "real music". Then pop and techno and hiphop weren't "real music". Face it, this is the future. That kid was right, robots are taking over the world, and they're gonna start with the music industry.

Eh, I'm still a Vocaloid fan. Everyone seems to forget that there are still talented people working behind the scenes, and Miku and Co. are just avatars for an instrument.

I still like those kids, though. Opinions, opinions, opinions.

Wow, I actually blamed it on my view because I read a couple of glowing reviews after the fact. My expectations were high because they're great in the DVD lives. The lack of a live band brought the energy down, not to mention that most of the crowd around me seemed bored as fuck.

I think the adults could have explained Vocaloids better.
They didn't really seem to explain that real people are composing these songs, and she just provides the voice.
I'd like to see how the kids would react if it was made clear that Miku is really more an instrument than a pop star in her own right.
    >> Anonymous 10/02/11(Sun)23:52 No.5028417
    >>5028405
Honestly, it's entirely possible the adults don't even know that. Hundreds of news articles from around the world, none of them mentioning she's an instrument. The masses read the news, think people are cheering for a cartoon character.
    >> Anonymous 10/03/11(Mon)00:02 No.5028445
It's funny because if you'd shown me that at about 10-13, my reaction would have been "HOLY SHIT, HOW DO THEY PROJECT THAT? IS IT LIKE A CLEAR SCREEN, OR IS THERE A FOG, OR DO THEY DO SOMETHING ELSE?! LASERS?!?!"

I can vouch for this. Back when AX11 ended, a co-worker of mine asked how it was since she knew me and my friends attended. She mentioned hearing about the Miku concert on the news and she found it kinda stupid how "people are cheering for a singer who doesn't exist". Then again, what average every day reporter or newspaper is going to ask for details on something like that? It's just a voice synthesizer program. It's not a hard hitting story. So naturally any press from "normies" about Miku is going to lack in back ground information on the subject because it is what it is. It looks like a bunch of nerds going to watch a cartoon sing.
