  • Happy 8th Birthday, 4chan

Server/posting issues should be resolved now.

Portland, OR folks: You are invited to drink beers, play arcade games, and eat cheap cake.
The *tentative* plan is to meet up Saturday, at 10PM @ Ground Kontrol ($2 cover after 9PM, 21+ after 5PM), and grab donuts at Voodoo after midnight.
Any suggestions for a place to buy cakes on short notice? If anything changes I'll post it to @4chan on the Twitter (so follow it if you're thinking about coming).

Girls with natural beauty are the best. My current female counterpart doesn't wear any makeup at all. She's naturally gorgeous, but that's not why she doesn't wear anything. She just doesn't know how to apply it. Dohoho.

Uhg, I'm the same way. My siblings make fun of me because I have no eyebrows. I do though! They are just very thin and very light. My eyelashes are the same way. I don't wear make-up that often, because if I want to look half way presentable, I have to do EVERYTHING. Draw on eyebrows, mascara.... the works.

Well first, get some foundation to cover up the acne and remove the bags under your eyes, and start washing your face and changing your pillowcases more often. After that, lighter tones on the apples of your cheeks, under your eyes, your chin, and above the eyelid, and darker tones on the eyelids and below the apples to give more depth to your face. I personally don't like lipstick or lip gloss, but you can use it - if it bothers you, try biting your top and bottom lips every once in a while to redden them.

I'd also recommend bangs, because like me you have a fivehead and would look less plain with some. I'm a fan of a sideways part and sweeping bangs like OP, but you'll need to wash your hair more and more frequently to keep more zits from showing up.

Of course, I'm a makeup beginner and am more comfortable putting it on others than myself, so someone more experienced will hopefully come along and give you some tips.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself hun! The biggest thing that I noticed is that the shape of your glasses aren't super flattering for your face shape... The thick frames look really cute on you but maybe you could try something with more of a rectangular shape?
As for make-up, here is a good beginner tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1sGaxEUMKE
She uses drug store make-up in it as well so it is much more accessible I think. I would just practice putting on make-up a few times and once your comfortable doing it you will learn what works for you! That being said, I don't think you need much make up. You have a fairly nice complexion. Also, I think you should wear a nice gloss on your lips with little eye shadow... I think it would look good like that. Is your hair pulled back in this photo? Or is it short?

they grip the shaft of the hair more firmly and reduces the chances of breaking the hair at the root.
    They are also more precise.

It's a bit like... comparing a good quality name brand razor to a cheapass dollar store 25 for a buck razors.
Sure, they both do the job, but which one feels better?

Proper plucking technique helps too- always with the hair growth. Take your time, keep symmetry in mind, and know where to place the arch.

Quality tweezers will be finer and able to grasp the hairs more effectively, enabling you to pull quicker without slipping off or snapping the hair in half. But with plucking, your own technique makes a difference as well - I find the most painless way of plucking to be pulling in the same direction that the hair is growing, holding the tweezers as flush against your face as possible.

Another tip: always pluck with your non-dominant hand first. If you use your right hand normally, then when you start plucking, do the left brow with your left hand first. It's harder to use your non-dominant hand for something so fiddly, so if you get tired halfway through, you'll be able to breeze through the other brow with your dominant hand and finish up quickly.

First thing's first, skin. Yours doesn't look too bad, but there's a few blemishes. Wash once or twice daily (depending on either if you have primarily oily or dry skin; I was twice because I'm very oily), use a non-alcohol toner, and a good moisturizer (again, depending on skin type; oily=water based, dry=oil based). Next, find a concealer and foundation that matches your skin tone as closely as possible. If you can afford it, get MAC or Iman. If you're cheap or just low on cash, drugstore brands are a little trickier. I spent a while looking for foundation that wasn't slightly-tanned-white-girl makeup. Covergirl's Queen Collection isn't bad.

Get lipsticks and glosses in plum or berry tones for starters, and when you get better work your way up to appropriately complementary reds and oranges. Also, be conservative with lipgloss; your lips are already full and prominent, you don't need to make them more noticeable. It kills me every time I see a black girl with crayola fuschia lipgloss slathered over half of her face.

Do your eyebrows. Yours look like they need to be filled in a bit. Use a dark brown eyeshadow/brow powder/pencil (not too dark, it looks odd) to fill them in and feather the color slightly to make it look natural.

Things like hair and eyeliner are more of a personal preference. Do whatever looks good for your face. Also, flattering camera angles and lighting helps immensely. That picture's lighting is washed out and you're taking the picture from below. That makes anyone look worse than they actually are.

First off, those glasses don't suit your face at all, go for some rectangular glasses, no ovals. Second, if you want to clear up that acne you need to get into a face regiment, I recommend Proactive, it just werks, also drink more water. get some good foundation with like 15 SPF or so, I use an Aveeno one that is amazing for everyday use, got it at Target. Get some nice mascara and concealer also. As for your hair, I don't know shit about ethnic hair, I know relaxers will wreck your shit, so try something with deep conditioning, and a "sleek" shampoo, Aussie works well for my frizzy hair. I use Nexxus conditioner, but whatever you can find that works for you is best. You'll need some wort of product for your hair, something that defines curls most likely (spray in when damp, scrunch and use diffuser probably) Oh and your eyebrows need to be filled in a bit, they're pretty thin. Just get yourself an eyebrow pencil or loose powder that's the closest you can get to your hair color, and gently fill them in, don't draw new ones on, don't mash that shit in there, just define what you have.

I'm probably going to regret this, but I'll self post. I have a weird scar on my lip that makes it appear split at all time, really bad acne, and awful under eye circles. I'm far from nice looking either way, but feel makeup makes a positive difference.

And before someone asks, I've been on a lot of stuff to try and get rid of my acne, nothing has worked, so I do my best to cover it.

Question: I have a very circular face, and pretty much lack any definition between my chin and neck, this gives me a "double chin" sort of look in most pictures, despite not being that large. Is their any contouring I could do to fix this? I'm really bad at that sort of stuff...
    >> Anonymous 09/29/11(Thu)22:42 No.5019862
    >>5019706
Let's start with a skin care regime! I see you've got some breakouts, I know how much those suck. What do you use to cleanse your face with? Certain acne fighting cleansers can actually make the problem worse!
If you have oily skin, an oil based cleanser will actually work better. It seems strange, but basically it will cleanse without stripping the oils in your skin and making it produce more. Cleanse in the morning and at night, follow up with an alcohol free toner such as rosewater. Finish with an oil free moisturizer. Exfoliate 3 times a day with a granular exfoliator and focus on the oiliest areas, once a week use a clay mask. Opt for water based foundations and steer clear of powders- they'll go patchy quickly.

Luckily, oily skin has more natural elasticity and you'll be more likely to age gracefully.

The only reason East Asian girls look so dramatically different without makeup is because they don't have a lot of facial hair. They have thinner eyebrows and finer eyelashes just like how they have less hair all over their body.

I've always wondered why they have such faded eyebrows. I'm from Southeast Asian heritage (Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese), which unfortunately, makes me a tad hairier than my Northern cousins. However, at least I have double eyelids and don't need to make myself up to an oblivion to look presentable. The downside is that I'm a bit tan. I tried to use BB cream once and that actually made my skin worse (and pale in a bad way - I would look like the girl in OP's before photo).

BB creams are supposed to make you look paler. They have tons of SPF++ in them and also light-reflecting particles. It's part of that ulzzanng (spelling?) cuteness thing they want.

Also, I think northeast Asians are just less hairy in general. Feels bad man.

The "I don't give a fuck" look is because I didn't want to mince words with how shitty I look at times. I do have an face cleaning regimine, but it could be better, and I'll definitely look for a non-alcoholic toner. No Proactive for me though, burns my skin like I'm on fire. Again, I really do appreciate the advice, and I've been looking to get my hair cut into bangs for a while now, I just need to get off my ass and do it.

contouring looks trickier than it is- I didn't get it until I read a book.
Basically, you need a few different colours of makeup powder that match your skintone but are darker and lighter in shade. You use the dark colour on areas you want to minimize and light colours on areas you want to emphasize. With me so far?
Now, the secret is to really really blend it. You shouldn't have any hard edges at all.

You're going to shade under your chin with a matte blush that's 2 or 3 shades darker than your skin. Blend blend blend.
Now you're going to take your highlighter, and highlight just the tip of your chin! Bleeeeennnnnduh.
Then we're going to give you some cheekbones!
Imagine a line from the tip of your ear to the corner of your mouth. Or use the handle of a brush to visualize it. Now shade just along that line/slightly underneath it with a dark matte powder.

Contouring takes practice, but once you get what works for your face it's a snap.

    Pro Makeup by Kit Spencer.
It actually made a lot of sense and helped me realize where I was going wrong when I do my makeup, since I learned through trial and error at first.

You might be getting stuff that's the wrong tone. You know how when you're shopping for foundation and trying the colours? And you get the whole "this is almost it but just a bit too dark" thing happening? That's sort of what you need to shoot for with shading. Keep it in the same temperature- cool, neutral, or warm.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good BB cream for white people with pink undertones?

My boyfriend works at an asian cosmetic distributor and brings me back leftover stuff from work which unfortunately rarely goes with my skintone. I have Missha BB cream in both 21 and 23 but his company doesn't carry 13 so I was curious if that's any good for pink tones or not. I noticed 21 has a bit of a purple undertone which makes sense for asian skin but not for mine. I end up looking very slightly like that blueberry girl from Willy Wonka. Is there like a green toned BB cream or am I going to have to put green toned foundation on before the BB cream?

Ah, well, I don't usually wear the lenses, I actually like my eyes, I just don't really have pictures of me outside of cosplay/makeup tests. The thing is, once I put on concealer I really need foundation, and powder to set it..And then I look creepy unless I put on eyeliner, which forces me to wear mascara etc. With my "structure" It's pretty much an all or nothing deal, and I really hate acne so it tends to be "all".

    Thanks, though.

I've never really had that with foundation, it's either "just right" or orange. (I'm much paler in person...) I've got yellow based skin which is pretty rare in foundation/makeup shades, so it's tricky.

    >>5022407
Thank you! I use an orange based concealer stick, blend it in, put foundation over it, then add another layer, more foundation on top, and set it with powder. I generally use NYC concealer sticks and Lancome foundation. It's the powder on top that makes a huge difference, honestly. When I neglect to put powder directly under my eyes they seem much more obvious.
