I've been told that Hetallia cosplayers are creepy as fuck and the worst fanbase but I've never really been told why.

What makes this one fanbase so bad? Can you tell me some stories?
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)08:36 No.5004410
Bump? I'm not sure how fast/slow this board is. Sorry.
    >> Magical Machete !KonabiK9d2 09/25/11(Sun)08:40 No.5004414
    It's a pretty slow board.

From my experience with them, they don't understand personal boundaries, are rude, and assume that all other cosplayers from the serious act like the character they're cosplaying, so it's okay to treat them poorly/act like your character would.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)08:50 No.5004436
I heard a group of hetallia cosplayers wore nazi attire and did photoshoots at the Holocaust memorial.

Don't know if it's true or not...
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)08:53 No.5004439
Crap, I didn't know that and planned to cosplay Poland. I don't have much experience with Hetalia cosplayers, but the ones I met were friendly, not rude and not creeps. But maybe I was just lucky.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)08:54 No.5004442
We're a slow board, man. No need to bump twice an hour.

I find them creepy, much like Homestuck fans, because I don't get what the fuck is so great that it causes this obsessive behavior and devotion to the series. I think it's because the fans are mostly teenage girls. Teenage girls are fuck-obnoxious at conventions to begin with, but usually there's some level of social awkwardness and shame to ensure the upkeep of basic social politeness. This dissolves somewhat when they find strangers with similar interests to run around with, and form roaming mobs of screaming and insanity and inappropriate touching.

At Anime Boston. On passover. I think across the street or around the corner from a holocaust museum

Was that just an accident due to pure ignorance, or did they realize and just not care? Either way it's pretty awful.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)09:31 No.5004496
Most of it's just exagerated by people who hate Hetalia (Because apparently it's cool to hate mainstream shows). Every Hetalia fan I've met at conventions have been pretty cool and utterly sane.

Hetallia isn't mainstream at all, and it's only popular with fujoshi and yaoi obsessed landwhales.

I'm not sure, I wasn't there. But that incident gets so much shit by actual Hetalia fans bitching and moaning about "other stupid weeaboos ruining /their/ fandom." I'm actually Jewish and even though this made me little sick, I didn't think it was that big of deal.

I was really into Hetalia for awhile but the constant fighting and how everyone thinks they're better than other fans really turned me off. Hetalia can be stupid, but a good and funny stupid. It's the retarded fandom that dumbs down the show further and gives it it's bad reputation.

I have no idea if she's doing it for the same reason I facepalm'd, but I lol'd anyway. How did they honestly think that it was OKAY to do this?

One of my close friends was there. The story goes that the sun was in one of their eyes and they put up a hand to block it. Well, the other guys thought they were going for the salute, so they did it too.
I used to be in this fandom so hardcore, but so much drama erupted between everyone that it ruined it for me. Then I grew out of it. It was nice for a while when it was a small, close-knit group of people who were like family, but then shit hit the fan and everything got fucked. It could really happen to any fandom, I suppose. But, the Hetalia fandom's bad reputation probably stems from cosplayers who are FAR too much in-character and fuck all up for everyone else. Like I said, it's not just limited to Hetalia and Homestuck.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)10:03 No.5004531
I'm not really sure. All the Hetalia folk I've met online are pretty chill bros. I know two girls irl though, that are just a little loony about it. Or at least they used to be. I know Girl B has calmed down about it (her personality itself is pretty weird though, shes not completely sane), Girl A obsesses about HTF for somestrange reason.

But all in all they weren't THAT bad, so idk.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)13:07 No.5004878
They are loud, take their shit too seriously, and have no sense of another person's personal space.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)13:11 No.5004889
Hetalia cosplayers are infamous for being incredibly inconsiderate of other countries' customs, as well as people in general.
Which is odd, because this anime teaches ABOUT other cultures...
    But anyways.

The fandom is dying down; most fans are either moving on to Homestuck or T&B or just growing up in general.

    >>5004889

Aha~ of course that picture would be posted.
There's two things I love about it:
    >the facepalming Norway
    >the Germany on the far left, uncensored face. Look at their hand. They're not doing the salute.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)13:19 No.5004907
I know Hetalia fans. They're constantly trying to get me to be America even though I've told them repeatedly that I don't like the show and that I generally dislike Hetalia fans' conduct at conventions. And also that I look nothing like the character. And that I am not willing to purchase parts of a costume for a character that I don't look like in a show that I don't like.
    And yet every fucking day
Every FUCKING day it's "Anon-san"- and they always use Japanese honorifics, which is annoying as fuck. I don't know how they work but they're probably using them wrong, too- "why wont you go cosplay with us?" and then try to make a sad face but it just comes off looking really fucking goofy. I'm starting to have to rethink how I go about my day just to avoid them. I swear to god these people deserve to be rounded up in a dank alley and shot. I regret ever mentioning to I don't even know any more that I watch some select animes.

    I'd assume they would.
Doesn't that fandom get a lot of yaoishit?
    >> Kagami !6FK967Ta9w 09/25/11(Sun)13:21 No.5004915
    Oh, it's this thread again.

As a Hetaliafag who has cosplayed many people from Hetalia, I've met very little people who are really inconsiderate. I've known three people who did a seig heil(two of which quickly admitted that was wrong), and one girl who wasn't too much of a Hetaliafag who said "The only Italian I know is 'vee vee', 'pasta pasta', and 'ti amo'" after checking with me to make sure 'ti amo' meant what she thought it meant.

I've met a lot of Hetaliafags, and they tend to be good, well rounded people. Of course you're going to hear about the horrible minority, and of course there will indeed be a horrible minority when a fandom inflates like it has.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/11(Sun)13:26 No.5004934
I'm a sane, 20 year old student with my own apartment and I cosplay Hetalia. We're not all crazy. I've met some pretty awesome people that cosplay Hetalia and I'm willing to say that I've met more sane people then crazy.

The worst thing about the fandom as someone who is a Hetalia fan, is how quick they all are to jump down eachother's throats over the stupidest shit. there is only like 10% of the fandom that are the ones you hear horror stories about and the other 90% are all terrified that everyone but them is a part of that 10% so they feel the need to correct any behavior that they see. I've already had three on a forum tell me that I was wrong for being a part of the fans that call Lithuania Tolys and Finland Timo.

    >>5004487
It was an ignorance thing, and the memorial was a few blocks away. It was one of those things where only someone familiar with the area would know they were near a memorial.

Plenty of series that can be yaoishit-ed up to be honest, not just T&B.
I'm a Hetaliafag who's also into Homestuck and T&B (plus a few other series that can be homo'd up like a motherfucker if one was that way inclined), so I'm a little 8T about crazy kids getting into the fandoms of the things I'm into. I get a fair amount of shit from the higher-tier cosplayers I hang out with for being into stuff like Hetalia and Homestuck because of the crazy fandoms associated with the series, I don't really like giving them another reason to poke fun at me and say "LOL yep Anon-kun has picked another shit series, time to avoid like the plague!"

Picture makes me rage like a bitch, but those two always cheer me up for some reason

Though my screen is shit, so I cant actually tell what Left Germany is doing with her hand. Is it the bird, a thumbs up, or merely pointing at the (presumably) incoming herd or raging sanefags?
