I'd start by looking at how Halo cosplayers make armor. There are lots of people who make Master Chief armor of varying degrees of quality. The major ways I've seen are fiberglass, vacuformed plastic, and maybe paper mache. The other option to look into is Star Wars, but that is almost entirely vacuformed plastic, since that is what the original prop builders did for the movies.

I would strongly advise against doing this. Paper mache hasn't had very good results for armor.

I recommend going to the 405th Infantry Division forums. They have tutorials and discussions on how to make armor using all sorts of techniques.

I was literally coming to /cgl/ right now to ask if anyone had a tutorial on how to make Spy's mask/balaclava. I love you seagulls.

My friends and I are doing a TF2 group and we want to look our damn best. And none of us have had to do any kind of full-cover headwear before. Could anyone help us out?

Her and her dad made the soldier stuff, and her dad did most of the work on the medic stuff, though we helped out. He's quite good at metal/woodworking and basically has a shop in his garage. I'm the medic in the pic.

Just wondering, but what do you think of cosplayers who haven't played?
Not the super-obnoxious-"Hello, boys!"-slutty-fem-scouts, but someone who researched the hell out of the game, kept the exact original design and did it fairly well, stays in character, is polite, etc but just hasn't played.

Red team Pyro's design was love at first sight for me, but no matter what mode I run it in, the game crashes my computer like a blind ballerina.

Eh, it's just as much about the character as it is the game. If you know the personality, the phrases, the tropes, and you have a good costume, you're just as legit as anyone. Honestly it's just about being a fan of the character, I don't really count people who "cosplay" characters they barely know anything about as cosplayers since part of the costume is being in character. That random "L" running around full speed shouting anime memes smiling all the time? Yeah, that's not a cosplayer, that's some jackass in a wig and a t-shirt.

Its your money, and your effort on the costume, so even if you hated the game, I wouldn't have any right telling you what you can and can't do. Cosplay isn't a super secret club for true and ultimate fans, it's just a craft thing. motivations don't matter, the only thing I'd judge you by is your actual craftsmanship.
