There's no such thing as a a quality black cosplayer. Anime designs don't translate well against dark skin, unless the character dark skinned to begin with. It's goddamn color theory.

Why black people, you ask? How would it look to you if a bunch of white cosplayers went out cosplaying black characters? There are so many black characters out there who rarely get cosplayed, go cosplay those. It's like those massively fat girls who cosplay super skinny characters, or girls who don't bind their double Ds when they crossplay. It makes you look like an idiot, and you will get made fun of.

I had a really cute black girlfriend last summer. I was thinking about taking her to a convention and cosplaying as the 10th doctor so everyone would just assume she was Martha Jones.

It's the same principle as black cosplayers, good tan (speaking mainly latino) are hard to find.

Personally I don't cosplay black characters cause I just don't like their personalities. They're not interesting enough for me to cosplay.

This is my opinion;

The ultimate aim of Cosplay is to look as close to the character as possible and I think that the black people who happen to be into the various 'scenes' surrounding cosplay (anime, lolita, japan stuff, etc) are probably the least like "your racist black stereotype" possible, they are very likely to be super conscientious and more 'aware' in a way that doesn't seem to affect those who chose to 'increase a character's size'. (If anyone watches Curb your enthusiasm cosplay, japan, etc fans are like the black people who wear glasses)

I'm Black but live in Europe, would love to be able to cosplay someone like Cardcaptor Sakura but would have I have the spunk to actually go to a con and expect to be that character and continue wearing it confidently all day and smile for photos? No. I'm not afraid, I just find it unnecessary because I've learned to accept that I wont look like the character (and for some reason not looking as close to the character as possible is a big deal).

I've found that cosplay also features awesome fashion design. So if I like an aesthetic I'll look to incorporate it into the clothes I wear. Luckily Lolita fashion meets those needs fantastically.

Of course if the day comes that I find a character I really like who just happens to be black I would cosplay them. But for now my ultimate cosplay is a moogle from Final Fantasy, not just because it's a full body costume but because the costume would be such a challenge and I haven't seen one done as good as what they wear in FFX-2

This is exactly why I have accepted the fact that I'll never cosplay Sailor Moon. And reserve myself to characters such as Alyx Vance, 63 Garterbelt, Shinobu from No More Heroes, 63'd Killer Bee, etc etc. I could only ever play black/dark skinned characters because when I cosplay, I wish to do justice, not just be a "Black Character X"

This is in no way dirisive of the people who don't stick to their color in cosplay. Not at all, keep doing what you do delicious legged Sailor Venus (you know the one). It's just that *I'll* never be able to do it.

That is A goal of cosplay.

the other is to have FUN.. if you want to play a character that you love and knowing that you are not perfect for it and can will have fun anyway .. go for it.

Sometimes I feel like if the character isn't so race specific I'll give them a go. Some characters just look so generic enough that I think if you're cute enough you can pull it off regardless of skin color. I really want to cosplay as Blair and Yomiko Readman. Mainly because I really enjoy those characters...

Out of the thousands of light skinned characters there are very few dark skinned ones. Not to mention out of those dark skinned ones a lot of the characters aren't important, suck, or are just filler characters. Basically characters people don't get a chance to really connect to. They are out there, I have a list of some I like. But how many major dark skinned characters in anime can you name?
