See, whilst given her image that would be my gut wrench reaction would be that she'd look amazing in the lighter dresses (pinks, blues, pastels etc.), I then reckoned with her grey eyes and cooler skin tone she'd be better with slightly darker classic/country tones.

Thus I murdered the outline someonevery nicely made for the ideal lolita thing yesterday.

And she's stunning enough facially that she can totally rock the more toned down co-ordinate.

I am still trying to work out makeup colors myself, but since I am black and have really narrow, upturned eyes, I like using Asian makeup tutorials for eyes. The slightest hint of a cat eye turns my makeup to the sexy/mysterious look you mentioned, but I've noticed that if I wing my liner downwards instead it creates the illusion of a wider, more innocent eye.

I'd love to get into lolita, though it is a bit daunting. I've recently lost a lot of weight, still losing, but only about 10-15 pounds off my goal weight now. So, since I need a whole new wardrobe anyway, I'd love to have some lolita in there.

The face picture is really recent, the body picture is bit older, but the most recent body shot I have. I was a sort of "hot topic mall goth" in high school, and I still have trouble knowing what colors suit me. I'd like to keep my glasses for any look, as I genuinely feel I look better with them on, and when I tried contacts for a while back in high school I got an eye infection, so they scare me now.

I'd love to hear any thoughts! Lay it on me you lovely lolis!

I agree with this. I love seeing black lolis in whites and pastels, it just looks so lovely with their dark rich skin tone. On white girls it can wash them out, or sort of tint their skin color to look a little yellow/pink/blue what have you because it's so close. I especially hate seeing fat white lolis in pinks of any kind, it makes them look like piggies or Kirby.
    >> Anonymous 09/11/11(Sun)19:02 No.4955550
    >>4955520
A lot of that depends on skintone. If you're black and have really dark skin, black and chocolate probably won't look great. But if you're black and a little lighter ( say, >>4955454's skintone), I think that darker browns and black can work. Black hair accessories do tend to blend in, though, so you may want to stay away from them. And I've met a couple of pale girls who look awesome in pastel yellow, though many don't look too good in it.

When it comes to color, it's better to experiment and find out what works for you personally, rather than abiding by a general rule. Color is highly dependent on many small, individual factors that can change as soon as you change your hair color, or even if you simply spend too much time in the sun and get a tan.

My eyes are small and squinty, and not in the nice asian way, plus perminent dark circles and wrinkles.

I tried the Asian tuts, but I don't think they look quite right on me. Also, which shade of nude for lipstick is best? My lips are huge so I want to tone them down and make them less noticeable. Lighter nudes make my face look washed out. Darker looks better, but again, gives off a sexy appeal. Pinks I've tried stick out too much, making them look even bigger.

I think wearing lighter colors will work for you, and possibly trim the eybrows. You seem to have good skin, it just needs work on evening it out. (Which is a problem for myself as well as plenty others)

    >>4955552
You're very pale. (this is okay, plenty of people envy this) but when it comes to make-up you do not want to look washed out. Use rose pink lipstick to have your lips stick out a bit. Skin like yours should be fun to play with make-up wise since you can turn it into almost anything.

Which sorts of tutorials are you using? I find that the ones that require softer liner or a less intense eye, rather than those really extreme droopy-eye fake-outer-corner tutorials, look the best for me. Will try to link a few when I get home!

As for colors, I have yet to find a good nude. Makeup brands just do not make products with women of color in mind :( I do feel that using a matte, sheer lipstick looks better than a gloss or a full-coverage lipstick, though. Both glosses and lipsticks are created with the intention of making lips look fuller, whereas a sheer product will add color without adding the appearance of increased size.

I have to say that i have never seen nude lipstick look good on a black chick. It just looks trashy and gross imo. Although i don't see the appeal of nude lipstick on anybody, apart from maybe those going for a Brigitte Bardot sex kitten look. Its like, why hide your lips? They are your lips, they are on your face, they aren't going anywhere, embrace them! I rock reds, burgundys, pinks, corals, i dont give a fuck.

I want to reassure you that your eyes aren't half as bad as you think, anon. A lot of Indian women I've seen have similar coloring around the eyes, and it makes the eyes themselves look whiter and larger. A very pretty look. Try emphasizing that with a subtle smokey eye, or at least some kohl. Don't be shy with it. The key is to do both top -and- bottom lid.

Oh, okay, I thought your eyes were a little bit more upturned! When your eyes are downturned but small, Asian makeup tutorials can be helpful, but you need to decrease the downward turn of your liner or you'll get what I fondly call the sad-panda look. They do help in making your eyes appear bigger, though, so it's a good place to start!

You might also want to look into an undereye cream or serum to help reduce the puffiness of your undereye circles. Clinique makes an awesome, but pricey, version, while Garnier makes a $12 undereye rollerball serum that works pretty well, too. Both have a fair amount of product and last for several months, and you apply both of them before doing your makeup. The results look kind of minimal at first, but over time you can see a huge difference.

Pro tip for all anons looking to trim their eyebrows:

GET THEM THREADED!! It's much less painful than waxing, lasts longer than plucking, and is in general awesome. Also, there is a much smaller chance of hurting your facial skin with threading. I tried waxing once, and it burned of a big hunk of skin. Never again.

Threading IS plucking, but with a thread. It will be effective for exactly the same amount of time. Friend anons, kindly disregard any further advice on threading that comes from excitable all-caps multiple-exclamation-point anon. She means well, but she's a bit damaged.

In my experience, plucking didn't always work. The hair would break off before the root. So they'd come back sooner. Maybe my tweezers were shit or something.

I think metamorphose would look great on you, some of their more retro pop designs. Mint and prints with vibrant pops of color in the desing also. If you don't want to wear a wig you could get clip in ponytails in your natural color, your current hair is very similar to a lot of the base wigs that they come with.

Country style, colors red cream and green tones. With your height you can pull off cute layering looks (bustle skirts, aprons, shawls). invest in a white or cream underskirt to use with skirts that are too short or commision dresses to your height. I know what anon means. basically, apply makeup and wash from the center of your face outward. and when washing, go in clockwise circles on the right and counterclockwise on the left. this helps in not tugging the skin and keeping it from being prematurely saggy.

contouring and highlighting is easily enough explained on youtube. at least, better than i could explain it.

Taobao is like chinese ebay, a site made up of many different shops. It has become really popular with lolitas because they can do things like custom size garments and offer nice quality (for some of the shops at least) at much lower prices than brands.

Sweet or sweet colored classic. Pink, fawn, and sax blue. You would really suit the blouse (or knitwear) under a jsk look, if you want to wear cadigans pick an open weave knit one to not overwhelm your frame. Smaller hair accesories or try a straw hat for a country feel. If you want to wear your natural hair fluffed out curls would give a cute sweet look.

Rose, brown, slate blue. if you want to wear your natural hair berets look cute and polished with short hair also small jeweled or detailed headbeands, for wigs go for something with face framing layers and mid volume.
