While I don't know her the girl I definitely say this is a pretty bad picture. Not fond that she does claim commissioned costumes as her own. Especially when entering comps.

    Any good UK cosplayers?
    >> Anonymous 09/07/11(Wed)12:20 No.4939576
    >>4939566
Aside from her fondness for choosing characters that will enable her to let her tits hang out all over the place, there was massive drama surrounding her earlier this year. She's notorious among cosplayers for buying costumes, modifying them slightly and then pretending she made them. She did it at Hyper Japan this year and took second place, which included a prize of a sewing machine. The person who sold her the costume found out and was livid, posted evidence on 4chan and was encouraged to contact the HJ organisers about it. She did, but the upshot was that HJ said they weren't going to revoke their decision because they were satisfied that she'd done enough work for it to be OK, and besides, the prizes had already been sent out to the winners.

I've heard that she has acted as if this decision means she's getting away scot-free, but everyone knows what she did now.
    >> Anonymous 09/07/11(Wed)12:22 No.4939583
    >>4939576
If I remember rightly. HJ has said that they will tighten up on future comps. Personally, I felt she should have had her award revoked.

I'd be surprised if the Expo people let her enter without a giant 40 page folder of evidence that she made it.

Yeah, basically to those who don't know, Tif or Kara is loud, she has a horrible attitude especially to those who cosplay the same character as her. If you're not cosplaying as something she likes, she will completely blank you, even if you got on with her really well last con (when you coincidentally were cosplaying something she likes). She has been caught up in a lot of drama surrounding her friend groups.

I would normally ignore this, but the cincher is she buys or comissions cosplays and then passed it off as her own work. The seller of her Zidane cosplay from HJ caught her out and that's why everyone is now aware of what's she's done.

I find it amusing that now she's posted statuses about buying fabric for her new cosplays, I wonder if she's learnt her lesson now, only time will tell. She could just be making it up for all I know.
    >> Anonymous 09/07/11(Wed)12:32 No.4939606

    >>4939583
Yeah, there has been that knock-on effect and it's a good thing too. IIRC they now say that competition entrants have to produce evidence that they've made at least 75% of their costumes themselves, which is very reasonable. How effectively it'll enable them to get around people doing the "buy costume, unpick seams, stitch back together and say LOL PROGRESS" thing I don't know.

There was a thread a while back where an anon posted each of the costumes she's pretended were hers. Many of them she has now credited the original owner or commissioner. There was a smaller dramu around her Amano Terra, where it was bought but she insisted she had modified it enough so that "it was her very own work" (which is odd because she didn't touch the main dress, just the capes so it's not completely her work)

By estimate I'd say 50-75% of her completed costumes she bought from someone else and 75% of that she didn't credit to begin with until people kicked up a fuss. It's nice she is now crediting, but the damage has been done, tbh.

She's threatened by anyone else who cosplays Ariel, and will be very nice to their face, but comment and pick flaws in what could be a perfect costume just to make herself feel better.

Mpf, I think almost every Ariel cosplayer thinks they're Ariel themselves.
The cosplayer I was talking about was Ariel Van De Kamp. I know Phoenix sent her messages through coscom and deviantart to ask her about how did she make her costumes.
It's so obvious she copied her by a lot of details.

Nah, Matt Catt is a lying little scammer. Used to go by Venom da Lemon on CI and Beatmatic on coscom until I caught him posting other people's photos on CI and claiming them as his own. I PMed him and warned him that if he didn't remove all the photos belonging to other people I'd publicly out him. (My main gripe was people were impressed by the work and praising him heaps. All praise that belonged to someone else). He did as I asked and vanished for a while.

He then commissioned a Yoko rifle from an awesome guy in the states, started posting photos of the progress claiming it was him doing it. He was also gloating at this time that he was "Going to make Xaerael look like a fool when he brought his amazing Yoko rifle to expo for someone to borrow". (Basically, he was hoping that the rifle would woo his ex (a frequent Yoko cosplay) back to him after she left him due to the previous incident). Again, I found the guy's website where exactly the same photos were posted, Emailed him and he confirmed that it was Matt Catt who had commissioned him. I then busted him AGAIN very publicly by posting links to the guy's blog in Matt's comment thread. A few hours later Kat (CI admin Kat) nuked his account and told him not to come back unless he behaved.

He then slimed off to DA and did the same thing. Only this time he "opened for prop commissions" (which was something he was obviously incapable of since he used his commissioned yoko rifle as his main example). At this point, I posted him on Artists Beware on LJ and his page got zerged with warning comments.

After this he vanished for a good long while, posting occasionally on coscom and 405th. Recently he cropped back up on CI under the username "Cosmech" where he still is.

tl;dr: He's a scammy liar who tries to use other people's hard work to scam people into paying him to make things.

This. When I met StreetAngel at MCM last october, she seemed really nice. I mean granted, I've only met her once, but it was a pretty good first impression.

Off the top of my head, UK cosplayers I like...
Pez and Storme are great, as is Sephirayne, and I really like Leadmill and Alias. I'd throw out some photos, but that's hard to do on my phone.

To be honest, all of the people I hang out with are really nice, and are great cosplayers, but they're all pretty much unheard of or under the radar in terms of 'cosplay fame' so I don't want to post them here.

I agree with Pez, Storme and Sephirayne. All three of them are really lovely, and so down to earth.
I don't know Alias, so can't comment. But Leadmill I disagree with. When ever I've spoken to him in person or on a forum, he's been nothing but incredibly rude. Tends to think he knows everything, and when proven wrong, or talked back to, attempts to gain an upper hand by belittling and patronising others.

Street-Angel has always bugged me a bit but I have no sensible reason why. She seems to recruit loads of people in to groups and then makes the whole group's costumes which strikes me as kind of scary and controlling. Then again I don't know what the people involved feel so it may all be cool.

Other than that I just remember her once coming off stage after a masq and going "Oh look! We won -again-!" which really grated on me.

I only know cause I spoke to her after the Midlands masquerade had finished, she was pretty out of it to be honest due to lack of sleep. Is AlCon really as bad as everyone says it is? Why? I'm going this weekend, so I figured I might as well go prepared.

For what it's worth, I went to Alcon once, I had a great time with my friends but that wasn't really down to the con. I very much enjoyed the parties, the venue was alright and apart from the events I wanted to go to being cancelled there were some others to make up for it.

I will say that I had my own personal bad experience with Mike Towers and I've seen and heard things to substantiate some of the rumours where he is concerned but it's not really my place to say who and what.

My advice would be to go, enjoy the con, make some friends. If you come away and you feel that the con let you down then well, there are plenty of others.

I adore Pez and Storme, they are lovely people especially with the Coscraft business, really helpful!

gaming_goddess and Fredericalanoir always have lovely costumes, and a lovely personality.

Sephirayne is a sweetie, as is CrystalNeko, who's not as known as others, but both of their cosplays are awesome (I loved their respective Applejacks at Aya) Freyarule also isn't as known but her skits are improving I think, and her Stiltzkin at kita was just adorable.

    ALSO FLUTTERSHY I LOVE YOOOOU

As for people to avoid, eh I don't get into drama. I've heard things about Tif and street-angel but I don't really bump into them so I can't judge for myself.

Wow, that's bullshit. Steve is a great guy. IIRC he's only won a comp prize (at mcm) like.... twice? First year I Cosplayed (he was a sailor moon chara) and the year he did the magic show.

I also hate the phrase "Too old". Fuck anyone who says that, and their funcop ways. Cosplay is one of the few hobbies that any age or skill range can participate in, and you generally get better with age as your skill improves (and you can afford more expensive materials, derp).

Actually he's won pretty consistantly at the Midlands Expo as well as London and it's always for a similar routine, dem legs, so I can see why people would get a bit...tired of it shall we say?

That said, I love watching him and I agree he's one of the nicest guys on the scene a testiment that age is no cap for what you enjoy.

In all honesty, being a competative person myself, I know there's no point whinging about someone beating you and hating them for it. Up your game or take it less seriously otherwise it's no fun for anyone right?

It gets less entries but then a lot less people attend. It's got a more 'family friendly' approach in that the crowd sits much closer to the stage, stage is smaller, there's a lot more interaction with the crowd and it's generally a lot of fun whereas London is somewhat more serious.

Don't tend to get a lot in the way of skits/performances and Steve always manages to combine a well tailoured costume with a well practiced and entertaining performance but last Midlands for example, there were these two girls, who I believe were/are trying to be a dance group, in kimonons doing an original dance which just looked...amateurish. I don't like the term weeb as I think everyone is entitled to enjoy anime and cosplay etc in their own way but the look on their faces when they lost. Looked like they'd just sucked a lemon.

I think people would just like to see something different from him? No denying he's good, he's proven his routine works, won a fair few times etc but hey, it's his call. As far as I know he just does it cause he loves it and you can't blame a person for that.

Yeap he's won a few times. But I do think its well deserved. He does bring good well rehearsed performances and quite often actually makes eye contact with the audience. This is a crucial element that let down so many other performances. I know the dance skit you mean and I have to say, while they clearly rehearsed it I found it to be boring as they didn't connect with the audience.

I do think Steve is a lovely guy and always looks amazing. I love that he is an older cosplayer who doesn't care that he is. I would say that he needs to change some elements of his performance as I did find myself not as entertained with the Katy Perry one he did for May Expo this year.

Steve is a sweetheart, I love talking to him in the masquerade queue. I want dem legs so bad....I can see why some people think he needs to change his routine a bit as he has done miming skits for a while now (from what I remember he's done Katy Perry last Mcm then the one before he did Florence which was quite similar (well apart from the song obviously).

He usually wins at Midlands because there is rarely any strong competition - because of the location good performers at London can't get to it as easily. I myself want to go to a Midlands Expo one day just to see the difference. I like how they have the old format of prizes and music from before the parade/expert format of London (which works just as well for the giant demand of London). Although watching the videos from manchester, I can't remember - does the old format have a Best Peformance prize or is that only added with the London format?

The Midlands and Manchester format is junoir, 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize, best performance and judges award. Or at least that's the basic structure. In the case of Manchester where we only had 1-2 junoirs and performances we just had 5 general prizes awarded for one reason or another.

There were far bigger numbers at Manchester than were anticipated but that venue for the space that was alotted is 3 times more expensive than the Midlands Expo venue which gives 3 times the space. Not sure about the future of Manchester Expo from that point of view, though I for one very much enjoyed it and that I got to spend the weekend in another city with the town centre on the doorstep of the convention.

The only person I can think of who strikes me as genuinely worrying in the creeper stakes is that Shinji Akari guy (just looked on the Ayacon members list and there's a ShinjiUK listed, not sure if it's the same guy but he's the only one using the name "Shinji"). I was quite dismayed to see him at Ayacon as I'd heard he'd been banned from everything except Expo and the like. There are assorted rumours about creepy things he's done, granted they are just rumours but he just oozes creepiness from every pore. He was being very creepy around a near-unconscious girl at Aya, it was very unsettling.

Fusionrose & co are some of the nicest cosplayers I've met. I don't usually go to the cons but when I do go they always make me feel welcome and comfortable and included. They're really fun to be with and they do photoshoots for every person so you get some good pictures of your cosplays.

I have, stopped after that "Jack has sex with men in the past and also Gwen does things but JACK IS HAVING SEX. WITH A MAN. IN THE PAST. Also, he's sad a lot!" episode. Fuck. I know it's part of Jack's character that he's flirty and pansexual and that doesn't bother me in itself, but an entire episode devoted to them hanging around half-naked while sad music plays? Get on with it, man. I ended up fast-forwarding through the scenes with whatshisface because they were so boring that it made me antsy to watch them.
Yeah, the character is probably important in the story later on. I don't care. The story has been progressing at a snail's pace so far and every episode is a disappointment plot-wise. Nothing happens. It's crazy frustrating and I'd rather just not find out what happens than have to sit through another hour of everyone running in circles, Rex awkwardly trying to be comic relief and Esther being dumb as a rock.

Do they feel like they need to add extra (~edgy~~) shit to appeal/shock their supposedly new American audience or something?

    TL;DR: fuck Torchwood.

She was originally going to cosplay Mai Valentine from Yugioh, and commissioned the wig from Lulu Rose. Unfortunately due to unforseen personal circumstances the wig couldn't be finished in time, and despite having good reasons and informing Kara of this, it didn't stop her whining about it, causing her friend Amanda (NightmareWings) to then accuse Lulu Rose of being a scammer and liar.

Kara later denied she ever complained about it (but it doesn't make sense, she must have whined about it to make Amanda so enraged about it)

Personally when Amanda isn't with kara and with her own other friends (like SlimDefinition) she's lovely to talk to. But it seems like Kara has moved on now to other friends, such as Vexer who was her Trance Zidane in HJ, and J-Ney.

    Neko-Sora (Aka: Lizzy or "Nate").

This person must be avoided at all costs. While not very well known in the cosplay community she has her fair share of dramu stories.

My main problem with her is that she acts like an immature 12 year old to appear "cute" to gain friends, uses them, then throws them aside when they are no longer of use to her. She's been through more friendship groups than I've had hot dinners.

To top it all off, over the last few years she has increasingly developed the belief that she is the character Sora. To put it simply she is the Usagi Kou of Kingdom Hearts. The only difference is is that she isn't popular, pretty or as good a cosplayer as Usagi was.

Unfortunately she deletes and re-creates accounts (such as DA, YT and FB) regularly so it is quite hard to find examples of what a nasty person she is in the past.

Take my advice guys. This girl is one to avoid.

If all that hasn't put you off then maybe her KH/Vocaloid cross-over will:

I have a dress I wore to my senior prom that has that same layer effect going on. Other than boning and stuff for structure, that underlying fabric on it is actually very mesh-like and breathable. It's like a net that the pieces are sewn on to. And trust me, that's a good thing. I would have been dying of heatstroke if it wasn't. You don't see the bottom layer at all, so you can get away with it.

Dunno if he has been mentioned yet but Yatak (?) was a sain at kita this year. I was pissed out of my face and some rat faced creeper was trying to get me to go with him. he came over and walked me to the bar got me a glass of water and told the bar staff to look out for me, he then found my friend kate for me. He was dressed in a suit with a long blonde wig which made it seem even more gentlemanly >//<.
Didn't see him the rest of the con to say thanks u_u.

If you're on cosplay island, I'm pretty sure he is too, maybe you should send him a message or something?

Kirokitsune (who cosplays with Nocturnal Blossom quite a bit) is a great guy and a good cosplayer. he has done a fantastic Snake from BB.

MangaChild is a top bloke and a great cosplayer.

TheKilling Doll, is a fantastic cosplayer and a lovely guy. He is quite shy.

Xaerael has already been mentioned but I do have the highest respect for him.

Sillabub is nice. Not the best cosplayer ever and she seems a bit quiet and awkward in big groups, but she's pretty friendly. Her character choices are interesting too.

There are also other ones such as his Dalek which (yup, you guessed it) wasn't his: deleted the costume from his account but photos still show up in his old posts.

I like Silantre, she's a great cosplayer and always very friendly to talk to. Also her WoW costumes make me fondly remember all the hours I wasted playing that time vampire!

Yeah, Silantre's craftsmanship is amazing, I so jelly. She's not the same person as Sillabub though (unless I've misunderstood you and you were just adding a name to the list, in which case, sorry!).

Thread is autosageing now, should we start a new one since it seems to be on-topic, or is that just because the dramawhores have gotten bored and left?

They used age, not sage. Although age always seemed like a redundant command to me since threads bump when you post in them regardless.
