08/26/11(Fri)19:34 No.4895404It's
always better to overreact than underreact. If you overreact, you'll
just feel kind of dumb afterwards. If you underreact, you'll be in much
worse shape.
If you choose to stay home, make sure that every
member of your family has an INDIVIDUAL emergency kit that contains
clean water, a basic first aid kit, 72 hours of food, clean clothing,
and other necessities (including photocopies of identification cards,
insurance papers, and social security cards, just in case). THIS
INCLUDES PETS. A lot of people forget about their pets when they create
emergency plans. Make sure you stock up on pet food, clean bedding, a
favorite toy, and a pet first aid kit (a basic human one will do in a
pinch, but for future reference, pet stores, emergency preparedness
companies, the Red Cross carry pet-specific kits that are good to have).
Make sure that you have a contingency plan and that everyone you live
with knows it (ie: emergency contacts, a safe meeting place, what to do
if a disaster strikes while they/you are away from the house).
I'm
a volunteer community liaison with my local police department. I do
emergency preparedness presentations all over the city. If you have
specific questions, ask and I'll try to answer them. |
