I've only been cosplaying for a few years and I'm getting sort of well known I guess?
I'm not really striving for it though.

But within my fandoms, I am!

I'm only mildly well-known outside those fandoms because I don't cosplay very much super-popular stuff, fanservice outfits, or yaoipandering, and I am entirely okay with this.

Cause I don't really feel the need to put myself in any type of quasi limelight. I have a lot of fun making my cosplays and doing small photoshoots with my social circle. Plus the fact I lack any form of DA, Livejournal, Blog and Cosplay.com account might be one thing.

I am in certain circles, but I chalk up my not being largely popular to living in Western Oregon.

I'm not 'well known within my fandom,' but one of my photos comes up here in 'good cosplay threads' every so often. I figure that's good enough. Plus, I'm kind of a butterface. Better to be relatively unnoticed than to be the next PT.

Because I took too long about developing my skills properly and got overtaken by really good people with amazing skills. Fortunately, while recognition would be nice, I don't hinge my entire sense of self-worth on whether or not I'm a Famous Cosplayer.

I'm pretty well known for a few of my costumes (in certain circles), and being a twin helps. On the other hand it kinda sucks to get recognition because when people know you, it opens you up to drama and trash talking. I hate drama, and I'd prefer to have fun, so I've moved away from my well known costumes.

I have no drama surrounding me, I am very uninteresting. Also my costumes are fair and I don't actively pursue cosplay fame.

The most popular cosplays are the biggest self-promoters.
Which is fine, whatever. If you're really proud of your work, why not promote the shit out of it?

It is unfortunate that skill doesn't always enter into it though. Like, here, I think this is incredible, but I have no fucking clue who this person is.

Often say people to me I make really good cosplay props and my costumes are very well-done. But for the most people I am very uninteresting because they have no idea what a series or character I do. I'm not that good. In fact I was horrible until about 1 year ago. Also chubby. So...no. And I don't get into big contests either.

Honestly, I cosplay for fun, not fame. I don't advertise myself or my cosplays. If someone comes up and is like "hey, you're the [character] from [a con]!" I am honestly surprised. I love the creative outlet that cosplay offers, but honestly, it is just a hobby. Like others have said, I don't base my self-worth on whether or not I'm famous/well-liked.

I generally have bad timing and do the cosplays just before the shows seem to get popular

The #1 reason is because I'm black. I don't half ass my cosplays either. I pull characters off 3x better than 98% of the people I see at cons.

I make good costumes with great props, win often some contests but I am not famous.
Because:
- I am not a self-promoter or attention whore
- I have no Photographers as friends
- My cosplay (characters and series) are too unknown for the most people

I don't particularly want to be well known. If I put a bit more effort into it I'm sure I could be, especially if I do it by riding the coattails of some of my more well known friends.

I'm also known for a couple of my costumes anyway. Inevitably, if you're talking with cosplayers who go to cons on the East Coast about either of those two characters, I'm mentioned, even if most don't actually know my name or handle. Since I seem to fly under the radar most of the time, it blew my mind when a friend told me that her friend from California, who had never been to an East Coast con, knew of me.

Because people fucking suck at noticing when something is done well. I don't know how it is even possible but it pisses me off so much to see shitty cosplayers be touted as OMG SO KAWAII AND AWESOME~
If they were that would be neat, but most of the time I wonder how people can honestly even complement them when their wig color is completely wrong (by like 10 shades), it is poorly styled or the complete wrong style, their costume itself shits, not one thing is done especially well, they look nothing like the character, they might even be fat/average/unfavorable body type, and their props are also shit tier. How people like this actually gain popularity is beyond me but I see it all the time.

I am well known in Hong Kong I have done alot of stuff on television and the radio but I have not done that much cosplay stuff this year due to work

I'm well known in my community. In fact, I'm hated.

Most of the characters I cosplay from are from obscure series and the well-known ones have already been done a billion times better before. Also my costumes are average and I never have photoshoots to take better pictures.

It's fine though, I like to fly under the radar. The cosplay community is full of fucking psychos I wouldn't want vendettaing on my ass.

Don't care. You more than likely see props I make at cons.

Being well known can rake in bigger commissions, from corporations or actual entities with a budget for props. But most of the time, it just rakes in people who want something spectacular on something even a migrant worker would have a hard time living off of.

Plus no drama. Enjoy the hobby and enjoy the times you have at the cons folks. Have something good to look back to, since you're not going to be cosplay famous when you're in your 40's.

I'm sorta known within my community mostly for my Chun-Li cosplays... If i ever get the chance to go to a contest abroad to represent my country, fine, if i don't, life goes on, but i'm not gonna cry and whine about it specially when i have a lot of other responsabilities in my life! I'm actually on a very good place in my life right now! ^w^
