You have been cosplaying for years, learned so much about cosplay, and put your heart and soul into every costume you make.

Why aren't you well known for your cosplays yet?

Cause I don't really feel the need to put myself in any type of quasi limelight. I have a lot of fun making my cosplays and doing small photoshoots with my social circle. Plus the fact I lack any form of DA, Livejournal, Blog and Cosplay.com account might be one thing.

I love the creative outlet that cosplay offers, but honestly, it is just a hobby. Like others have said, I don't base my self-worth on whether or not I'm famous/well-liked.

I generally have bad timing and do the cosplays just before the shows seem to get popular

ah well, still getting to dress up and play--I'm ok with this

Because after lurking here for years and seeing the drama that forms around well known cosplayers, I can honestly say I'm content with being an unknown. That and I don't think I'm good at this hobby. I tend to keep a low profile, too. Low key's the way to be.

Because I'm a lazy fuck and can't sew for shit even though I've been cosplaying for also five years. Also because I've only ever done two decent cosplays in my life.
    >> Anonymous 08/26/11(Fri)09:04 No.4894018
Because I'm fat (by /cgl/'s standards) and only attend small cons.

    >> Anonymous 08/26/11(Fri)09:48 No.4894044
    Because:
My breasts are to small for pretty female adult charas
I am to tall for children / most flatchested charas
My hips are to wide to convincingly cosplay male charas.
And I mostly cosplay those derps nobody else would like to do. (Like the boring derp boyfriend of some awesome Magical Girl und such things)

But I guess the pictures I take seem to be pretty appreciated.

    I was DO'H HO HO :3

Then I left the con scene for a couple of years to let drama die down and came back with a new name.

The #1 reason is because I'm black. I don't half ass my cosplays either. I pull characters off 3x better than 98% of the people I see at cons.
    >> Anonymous 08/26/11(Fri)10:47 No.4894099
Actually, I am decently well-known in my fandoms, but I don't feel like pushing and making myself well-known all around. I like to keep things chill especially because I am kind of shy.

I make good costumes with great props, win often some contests but I am not famous.
    Because:
    - I am not a self-promoter or attention whore
    - I have no Photographers as friends
    - My cosplay (characters and series) are too unknown for the most people
    - I am a guy (most people and Photographers like more cosplays by cute and/or sexy girls)
    - too shy
    And this too: >>4893851
    >> Anonymous 08/26/11(Fri)11:07 No.4894120
I don't particularly want to be well known. If I put a bit more effort into it I'm sure I could be, especially if I do it by riding the coattails of some of my more well known friends.

I'm also known for a couple of my costumes anyway. Inevitably, if you're talking with cosplayers who go to cons on the East Coast about either of those two characters, I'm mentioned, even if most don't actually know my name or handle. Since I seem to fly under the radar most of the time, it blew my mind when a friend told me that her friend from California, who had never been to an East Coast con, knew of me.

Because people fucking suck at noticing when something is done well. I don't know how it is even possible but it pisses me off so much to see shitty cosplayers be touted as OMG SO KAWAII AND AWESOME~
If they were that would be neat, but most of the time I wonder how people can honestly even complement them when their wig color is completely wrong (by like 10 shades), it is poorly styled or the complete wrong style, their costume itself shits, not one thing is done especially well, they look nothing like the character, they might even be fat/average/unfavorable body type, and their props are also shit tier. How people like this actually gain popularity is beyond me but I see it all the time.

I'm well known in my community. In fact, I'm hated.
    >> Anonymous 08/26/11(Fri)20:11 No.4895496
Most of the characters I cosplay from are from obscure series and the well-known ones have already been done a billion times better before. Also my costumes are average and I never have photoshoots to take better pictures.

It's fine though, I like to fly under the radar. The cosplay community is full of fucking psychos I wouldn't want vendettaing on my ass.
    >> Anonymous 08/26/11(Fri)20:19 No.4895527
Don't care. You more than likely see props I make at cons.

Being well known can rake in bigger commissions, from corporations or actual entities with a budget for props. But most of the time, it just rakes in people who want something spectacular on something even a migrant worker would have a hard time living off of.

Plus no drama. Enjoy the hobby and enjoy the times you have at the cons folks. Have something good to look back to, since you're not going to be cosplay famous when you're in your 40's.

I'm sorta known within my community mostly for my Chun-Li cosplays... If i ever get the chance to go to a contest abroad to represent my country, fine, if i don't, life goes on, but i'm not gonna cry and whine about it specially when i have a lot of other responsabilities in my life! I'm actually on a very good place in my life right now! ^w^
