Sensitive skin will have rashes and some of the cheaper paints may even have lead or other ingredients that are not meant to be on human skin. Depending on how you apply it, it can either cause the skin to burn or crack under the sun or absorb into your pores for a hell of a breakout.

Even some body/face paints can cause rashes on very sensitive skin.

The main problem I had with those girls was because their clientele was almost exclusively young kids, some as young as 1 year old. And they were trying to do things near the eyes and mouths of these kids because they saw us doing butterly and spiderman masks (though we used non-toxic stuff approved for kids and refused to do stuff near mouth and eyes for kids that are below 4). Face/body paint dry quickly, but acrylic paint does not and will be irritating to the skin, so kids are more likely to rub stuff into their eyes or eating it along with their cotton candy.

This isn't counting the fact that kids have more sensitive skin in general.

It was dangerous and if they hadn't moved out by the next day, I would've ratted them out.

I agree, sewing or gluing your horns into the wig are much nicer, and anyone with small/light horns should do it for a much cleaner look. I really would love to do that to make my Summoner nicer, but the way I make my horns, they just seem too big and heavy NOT to use a headband. Ive tried many things, but its never enough. The horns were marvelous. they looked like how I originally planned to make mine, but i eventually changed my mind when I realized how brittle they came out the first time. I remember someone posted some pics of me here in a previous MSPA cosplay thread, so you may have seen it. I was at AX.

I honestly never tried the way Hayaan described how she did it, nor did it ever occur to me to have a headband UNDER the wig. (I didnt think it was even possible). I am 100% going to see if I can do that when I remake my horns, to make them longer and lighter somehow. Im happy with how it turned out despite not having the wings ready at the time, but the headband clearly visible is one of the things I can definitely fix for next time.

I made my horns out of model magic, and carved out a styrofoam core on the inside to reduce the weight, which did work, but perhaps not enough! Next time I remake them, im going to use more styrofoam on the inside, and less model magic on the outside.

I broke into one of the old horns I wore here and noticed I used ALOT more model magic than I should have, which definitely weighed them down, and ultimately caused them to fall and break. Luckily it was near the end of the day so it was all good.

headband under wig is totally possible! I did it at Comiket this year for a totally non-homestuck costume to have massive as hell bunny ears, and it was pretty sweet. It works best if either 1) you purposely leave wire sticking out of the horns, or 2) you make hollow horns (slush cast or something). In case of not-hollow horns, you put the headband on under the wig, stick the horn wire through the wig, and carefully wrap the wire around the headband. Pad the headband wires a bit with bandaids or moleskin or something because that wire will give you a killer headache otherwise, but it should help. You can even have two wires coming out for maximum stability! (make one go up the headband towards the crown of your head, and the other go down the headband towards your ears).

I made Terezi horns but I'm using my wig for other cosplays as well (Yamazaki from Gintama and Goemon from Lupin III for example) so I needed a way to take the horns off easily.

What I ended up doing was using bobby pins hotglued to the bottom of the horns, and I hook them into the wefts of the wig. They look attached and they're light enough that they stay in place (I used Model Magic to make mine).

If you're doing longer/larger horns though I'm not sure if I'd be able to help you.

One of my hugest pet peeves is horns on a headband not even gonna lie....

Don't skip to hivebent. I would almost say it's better to skip over hivebent then to skip anything else, but it's still important that you read everything. One one level, as a reader, you miss out on a lot by skipping things. Also, it's kind of a big fuck you to the author, who spends a lot of effort crafting this universe, to just skip to the sensationalized parts so you can fit in with other fans.

you should never skip. those are the kind of fans that anyone who try to enjoy the comic and cosplay avoids. I know some really cool people who cosplay from this and they're all fine chill people.
Also lately it seems like there are tons of teenagers getting into comics which is kind of weird. But then there are comic fans who treat it like some kind of club and jump on every small mistake. It takes some time for the series to start getting more exciting and whatnot. But alot of people would agree that it's worth it.

While I love Homestuck, Hussie is a pretentious asshole with an ego the size of the moon.

A good portion of the cosplayers are hambeasts, but doesn't that apply to most fandoms? There are an equal, if not greater amount of nice Homestuck cosplays than there are horribly bad.

I don't endorse the behavior of most the cosplayers, mainly Gamzees, but there are also a lot of really nice ones. And, for something with a fanbase that has a large amount of young teens, there are a fair amount that are very polite and well behaved.

Not everyone in the fandom is some kind of autistic shipper who skips the first five acts so they can get to the "uguuu kawaii desu nya" trolls, believe it or not. Some of us actually enjoy the entire comic, and appreciate both the human and troll characters, along with others.

Most of the fandom may give us Homestuck fans a bad name, but not all of us are that bad, and we deplore the more retarded part of it.
