It depends on which fans you run into; there's the actual smart ones, the weebs, the former Hetafags that think Homestuck is more ~mature~, Octopimp's worshippers (Octopimp is some voice actor that makes videos of terrible comics), and people that think they're the better of the group but really they're just annoying pricks. Such as myself.

Octopimp's a nice guy, it's just his worshippers and half the comics he dubs sucking. But, that can be more due to the retardedness of Homestuck comic creators. I've never subscribed to the 'BNF' concept.

Personally, I think there is a 'good fandom' and a 'bad fandom' to every large enough fandom; The 'good fandom' can be courteous, have fun, and doesn't cause people to hate them; The 'bad fandom' are the Sieg Hiel-ers, the bucket-spitters, the people who show up in weebs horror story threads. The bad fandom tends to be slightly bigger, due to humans just plain not being paragons of goodness usually, so they talk over the good fandom until the rest of the world assumes the bad fandom speaks for all of it.

On topic to /cgl/, I'm thinking of doing Mom or WQ for a con sometime. And I have femme Dave possibly.
The only troll I would do is Feferi, since I really like her, and she's definitely not as overdone as some trolls.

I was a huge fan of Problem Sleuth, and still am, but I didn't even bother reading Homestuck after 20 pages in (I don't hate it, just sorta apathetic to it, it's probably has too Web 2.0 elements for me). I'm bummed no one ever cosplays as a Problem Sleuth character, but I'm hardly ever on /cgl/ anyway.

Generally people who don't like it:
1. haven't read it and are turned off by the fans, or
2. have only read act 1 and don't understand the humor for whatever reason.
sure, it's not for everyone, and it's quite a lot for animu fans to digest, but i fucking love it.
also, i'm cosplaying as dave next month.

Never got into it.
Read the first two acts, read the other MSPA, never liked it.

I like Homestuck, but I will never cosplay from it because the bad part of the fandom has put me off from it, not to mention, I don't want to burden the people who bail my ass out of compromising positions. And with the current fanbase and my uncanny ability to attract creepers, there'd be quite a few of those.

The fandom really differs from place to place.
At this years närcon (swedish convention) There was a homestuck meetup. 20 people or so attended, including me and my girlfriend. Everyone we met was totally bro, and we both made tons of new friends. In sweden this fandom is really small though, and we dont have as many weeabos in general, but still. Everyone in the group was very mature, despite half of them or more being underage. We had a great meetup, and most of us hung around for the entire convention. Turned out to be the best convention i have ever attended.
We now have a small communtity named swestuck, and we have plans for cosplaying all of the ancestors at a con in may next year.

tl:dr Sweden has a small but awesome homestuck fanbase.

So I've decided to give homestruck a chance and I've read up to the point where Jade has entered, and more than one troll is godly.

The things I don't like about it are:
-the weird fascination for underage hookups
-the fact that the author did that whole "the author is in the story's universe!"
-constant references to other MSPA things, like sweet bro and hella jeff.
-Without the troll's little typing quirks, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart because most of them have the same character.

I totally want to cosplay Snowman in her 3 in the morning dress. Soooo classsy.

Oh I see! I've been too lazy to go find all these people I'm told to find in fandom, but he is pretty funny. I much prefer his Equius and Eridan, too. Octo's are so whisper quiet[Equius] or overly fake-snobby Brit[Eri] and it drives me nuts.

I do like the girl who does the Nepeta voices with Octo though. I wish I could find an OK Feferi, they're mostly to annoying for me to even stand to hear.
