    Hi /cgl/
Is it possible to wear a wig as an everyday thing, without people easily noticing that it's a wig?
And is there any sites you would reccomend me to buy from? Also tutorials on how to maintain a wig?
Oh and does anyone know where I can get a wig like in my picture, split vanilla and chocolate?
    >> Anonymous 08/13/11(Sat)12:53 No.4844348
    >>4844340

    >Yes, depending on the quality
    >What is your price range? I mean wig care is just common sense mostly. Wash it every so often, don't used human hair shampoo, wide toothed comb from bottom to top, when not in use I keep mine in a braid and in the bag it came in.
    >Mintymix maybe? Or taobao.

    Mild shampoo. Sulfate-free.

    1. Yes. I've worn wigs that look completely different from my natural hair/hairstyle and people constantly think it's my real hair and I just "grew it out" lol.
    2. If you want a wig that looks like real hair and that you can restyle numerous times, buy from Cyperous. They're expensive, but they're worth the money because they last forever.
    3. Cyperous has split wigs similar to that and so does Priscilla (I've heard their quality is decent).

Any shampoo. Any soap. Dish soap is ideal, actually, because it doesn't have moisturizers and similar ingredients that benefit your hair but only sit of the surface of a plastic hair fiber.

    >>4844373
You can also use a tad bit of fabric softener as 'conditioner'.

    >>4844359
Sulfate wont matter on a wig at all.

But you really shouldn't use any human hair shampoo on a wig, as it's not designed to clean plastic. Get wig shampoo, lots of Asian/Hispanic/African America beauty supply stores carry it if you don't have a wig store in your town. Or just buy it off line.

I saw a link on a blog somewhere, to a wig a bit like on the picture, long curly asian-ish they had so pretty colours, I think one of them were gray fading to lilac, or something and they looked very natural.
I think the price were around 40 dollar, and the site may have been amazon, but when I look up wig on amazon I only get a few bad results.

I know it's not much info, but does anyone have any idea what I might be talking about?
    >> Anonymous 08/13/11(Sat)13:09 No.4844384
Most people are "wig retarded" where you could be wearing a hot pink wig with blue streaks that shines like plastic in the light and is from Party City and they wont know it's a wig.

I used to wear wigs on a daily basis like a year ago, my hair was just super short, I always got my wigs in person. As you can't tell how a wig will look on you, and especially if you want a natural looking one- buy it in person.
    >> Anonymous 08/13/11(Sat)13:12 No.4844388
    >>4844384

    This isn't really true.

You don't need to try on a wig to make sure it will look natural.

Gabalnara wigs look natural on everyone.

    >>4844383

    Maybe Gabalnara or Pinkage? idk

    >>4844377
You don't need wig shampoo either. Wig shampoo is overpriced and relies on people to be uncertain about what they're doing.

Think about what you're trying to do and the materials you're working with. Plastic hair fiber, elastic in the wig cap, nylon mesh. You're trying to remove oil, dried sweat, and makeup residue.

Heat will affect the wig fiber. Bleach will damage the elastic. Not much bothers the nylon. Avoid heat and bleach in your washing process, which is very easy to do.

But what to use? Anything that isn't heat or bleach (again, very easy) and will remove oil, grime, and oil- or water-based makeup. The magic substance which accomplishes all of these things is soap. Any soap. Hand soap. Dish soap. The simpler and cheaper the better, because scents and moisturizers will not benefit the hair fiber and may be harder to rinse off, thus kludging up your wig.

Now you know. Go buy the generic shit with pride, and use the extra money to buy yourself something nice <3
    >> Anonymous 08/13/11(Sat)13:29 No.4844414
Of course it is. That's what the wig industry is there for.

Typically, the more natural the color, the easier it is for the wig to appear natural. Putting the hair in ponytails, usingn clips, hats etc will also help the wig appear 'normal.'

I like Gabalnara wigs but $80+++ because of shopping service fees or group order fees is a bit much, for me. (Also I hate their curled/crimped wigs - every kind I've gotten has been a bitch to maintain and I just end up straightening them so I can manage them better.)

Wigs are easy to spot if you know what to look for. But, the people who can spot wigs usually wear them, themselves, so won't call you out on it.

I used to have a drinking game at the bar I worked at. Every black chick that came in with an obvious wig, you had to take a shot.

    This.
These ebay wigs are ok if
    1. you are prepared to style them to make them look like the pic and
    2. you only want them for one or two times
    3. you will only be photographed in natural light

The worst part is that if you get snapped with flash, these wigs look like a plastic bird's nest :(

The only wig shop on ebay I would recommend in a reasonable price range is this place:

    http://stores.ebay.com/GO-TO-THE-SHOP

Because they don't steal pictures, what you see is what you get, and the fibers are very good quality.

It's important to make sure the fibers are heat resistant too, OP

Here, I have bought a couple of wigs off of ebay before, if you know what to look for, and yes are prepeard to do alittle styling by yourself then they're pretty good.
A lot better than some of the overpriced wigs you find other places.

Most of my wigs have arrived in perfect untagled condition though, and I've never really had the problem with them looking plasticy, except for some coloured cosplay wigs.
But you need to know what to look for when you buy.

Since this is already a wig thread, I thought I'd ask here. I really want to wear wigs, they look beautiful, but ever since I was a child, I have not been able to wear most hats, because my head is too big. I'm not sure what the measurement is, or even how to measure my head, but, I was wondering if wigs would be able to stretch enough to cover my large head?

I don't want to buy a wig just to find out it won't fit my huge head.

Most wigs have this band thing inside them which you can tighter/loosen, but since you can only loosen it to some exstent you could try asking the seller what the wig measurments are before you buy.
Some sites will let you chose between a small-large size also.
If you're still scared about wasting money on a too small wig try going to a shop that sells wigs and ask to try a normal sized one on just to see how it fits.
if you wanna be 100% sure, get your head measrments and find a wig that matches it.

I am well known for my wig wearing and most of the time, people think it's my real hair...even if i wear two completely different wig within a week. Also, I'm dark skinned, with naturally kinky hair that is med-short length and if people believe that my hair is actually short, jet black and silky or long blonde and curl, I'm sure anyone can make a wig look realistic. The people that have the seen the behind-the-scenes know better though. Just pay close attention to how you wear it. Secure it tightly. Make it look as natural as possible and if someone asks, tell them it's your real hair.
