for the classic pairing, you probably want to keep the clothes
themselves (shirt aside, that can be gaudy as fuck, preferably, but
that's just my taste) fairly simple, and play it up with accessories.
Like a couple nice rings, long chained necklaces and elegant brooches, a
top hat, maybe with some gaudy things in it (if you like it, otherwise
plain is good as well). I personally like big hooker-like heeled lace up
boots with pants tucked in, but pretty much any kind of shoe works.
Spats are extra great. Lots of lace and/or ruffles in the shirt,
fitted vest (double breasted would really be best if there's no blazer,
to give it some extra class), nice jacket, maybe with tails? Side
corseting can look good with it (personally not a fan of back corseting
on anything but dresses). Wouldn't recommend shorts for a more
elegant style, though unless you realllyyy know what you're doing.
Either straight leg pants or slightly flared from the knee. POCKETWATCHumph.
Cravat, jabot, short wide ties, ascot, skinny bows, no tie!, really anything goes so long as it goes with the shirt. I
like black or white for the ties, if the vest is contrasting, or
contrasting if the vest is matching the rest of the outfit. But it,
again, depends on what you're wearing. |
