    ITT: Derpy-chan

I commissioned a Derpy-chan skirt from a local girl and it turned out fantastic. The fabric isn't this shiny irl, btw; the camera used flash.

Anyone else have any Derpy-chan stuff they'd like to share?

I made a Derpy-Chan shirt using one of those print-out, iron on transfers. It looks damn good in reall life, though it looks like it's gonna start cracking soon, and I've only worn it about three or four times. Oh well, it was cheap.

I know custom printing fabric probably isn't cheap or easy, but daaaaaaamn that is a fat chunk of change.

And why is it a flat fee? You'd think the complexity of the fabric would change the price.

    OP your skirt is awesome.

I have an idea for a gothic print but I also did the sea derpy and the derpy apple tree.. I know other people had some designs in progress so I'd feel like a jack ass if I went ahead and made a new print and used up those last few spaces.

I know there was a couple of lovely classic prints being worked on and some ideas going around of a tarot card print. Any news on those?

Still waiting on Derpy Coach and anything solid on that tarot print. It's been weeks. I say go ahead with your idea. If they can't get on with their designs after nearly a month then they will have to wait till later if we do more.

You're mostly paying for the coating that lets it go through the printer (I'm looking into setting up a digital printing company, and fuuuuuuuuuuuuck that shit is expensive to get ready coated).
I guess there's a flat rate for convenience really, most people want to click a button or two and then have their fabric sent to them ASAP, if there wasn't a flat rate there's be a lot more emailing backwards and forwards to determine a price.

    >there's be a lot more emailing backwards and forwards to determine a price.

Not really, spoonflower would just have to actually LOOK at the fabrics themselves and set the price after they allow people to actually purchase it. Admittedly, they do a horrible job printing their fabric, which is why their black is so faded.

    >>4789305
Well yes, but the majority of people that use the service would find that inconvenient.
The black being faded is because they don't use a true black dye, they use reactive dyes and it's only recently (in the past year) that you've been able to get a true black that will go through a digital fabric printer.

you could probably safely get away with the ball being red with a cream/white stripe and gold star; the elephant and gold curtains around it would keep it from melting into a blob of red among the red curtains.

I think you're right, and the fact that the ball has horizontal bands of colour instead of vertical should help a lot too. I'll do that and repost later tonight, and perhaps put up a little section of teatime derpy too, if I get enough of it done!

As for how I work, I like to start off with a hideous magenta sketch and use that as a guideline for some neater linework. I make sure every element is lined and coloured on a seperate layer so that I can still play around with composition before I decide I'm happy with it and merge everything. Don't give up, anon, when I first started out on my circus design I was doing the yellow triangle banners and thought they looked so lame. Now I'm really glad I went through with it!

This is a really good question.

The best I can do is provide the Chinese character for "fabric" (面料) and "customize" (定制)

Maybe you could try asking a Taobao agent if they have ever seen any shops custom print fabrics before?

Just found out from another thread this seamstress is selling dresses on etsy with the derpy prints.

    http://www.etsy.com/shop/epicureanwigs?ref=pr_shop

Shes been posted in these threads before because she wasn't aware of the donation part of Derpy Chan but now has "10% of sales from Derpy Pony print dresses with go to farm sanctuary" on her page.

    Yayy.

the green and blue in the ball that the elephant is standing on, as well as the green and purple in the elephant seem slightly out of place. Perhaps you could add some sort of embellishment to the overall curtain utilizing these colors? Or maybe something to the top area where the stars are falling?

Starry Night Theater would be a good example of what I am talking about. There are interesting little details in the curtains as well as the area on the top of the print where things are floating/falling down.

Yup, Tarot de Derpy was supposed to be based on AatP's Castle of Nightmares print. Someone was meant to be working on art for the cards, but it never materialised sadly.

I hadn't thought about selling them (since it's not our art), but I can make them for sale through my Dev Art or something temporarily (etsy is a fee-whore when it comes to selling buttons). Send me a message on DevArt if you're interested, they're 1$ ea and 1.25$ shipping for as many as you'd like.

When I said green, I meant more of a franken green, like this...

But I don't think the solid part of the skirt would look good in that shade, maybe use the grays like in the black and gray one, but do the just the horses in the shaded franken greens..
