    75 KB ITA THREAD Anonymous 07/17/11(Sun)13:52 No.4731334
I want to hear your ita stories. Tell me about the biggest ita you've ever met. Bonus points if they are also obnoxious as well as poorly dressed.

I met this girl at university through some mutual friends. We never really clicked, but I was nice to her and she was civil to me (at least to my face). We would talk about lolita sometimes, and even though I never saw her wearing it, she assured me that she had been into lolita since the ice age.

Then one day I saw her at a local con. She was wearing this neon yellow dress with black raschel lace. It was so wrinkled and the skirt was way too short. She looked like she was cosplaying a trashy bumblebee, not wearing lolita. I went up to talk to her, but she blew me off, and later on I heard she was talking about me behind my back. Whatever, at least I wasn't a hot mess.

I haven't really "met" that many that were obnoxious. I've seen a few at a distance in conventions, but most of the girls I've met who were poorly dressed were perfectly well behaved. They just had the misfortune of being sucked in by Milanoo or eBay based false promises.

Online, though. I've run into plenty online. Lemme see if I can find photos/posts.

Okay. Going to start with this chick. Her name is Adrian, or Bunny, and she has an etsy:

    http://www.etsy.com/shop/CraftyLittleBunny/

This most recent photo of her doesn't look TOO TOO horrible (in spite of the slipping petticoat, the giant ric rack, the "mini beret" and so on), but ... lord. Have a look at her Photobucket some time:

    http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r62/GorillazFan_photos/

She can't sew for shit but thinks that she's God's gift to lolita seamstresses. All of her garments, including those sold on her Etsy, are made using low-thread-count discount quilter's cotton. She was in shock when, on a recent trip to a large fabric store, she spent "nearly $100 in materials." Lately, she's also taken to making garments out of threadbare bedsheets from the 80s, found in garage sale bins.

When offered critique on her garments, she has tons of excuses and refuses any and all advice. For example: when she makes a dress, it always has a lack of tailoring/seams on bodice. When anyone asks her about this, she insists it's because she's pregnant and wears them baby-doll.

... yet she's been constructing her bodices as sausage-tubes since before she got pregnant. And has been selling dresses like that for months.

i'm not really sure if she was trying to be a lolita or a sexy maid, but i'll post it anyway.

i was eating pizza and people watching at akon when i saw this girl shuffling into the hallway by herself, her shoes barely hanging onto her feet by her toes. she had a black 'lolita maid' dress on, and it was COVERED in cheap white lace. her stockings were falling down. she had 'neko' ears on, accompanied by a collar and leash. she was also carrying a sign asking for people to be her master.

so this girl walked up to a big black guy who was taking pictures of the jester/joker/idfk character from AC:B, and handed him her leash with a 'nyaaaa.' both the jester and the guy just stop and look at her. she continues to 'nyaaa' the jester starts laughing because this poor guy just don't know how to handle this. eventually the jester takes out his camera and starts taking pictures of the guy looking at the leash like it's a leeching parasite. the girl puts on her shoes and attaches herself onto the unsuspecting black man and poses like the sexy kawaii maid neko she thinks she is. she then walks away. everyone laughs.

pic isn't of her, but the dress looked somewhat like this if i'm remembering correctly.

Not sure if this is relevant, but I've got a few friends that usually aren't all that bad (they're my friends, after all...) but don't seem to understand the concept of lolita as anything more than particularly lacy maid outfits. What really bugs me is when they complain about paying 80 dollars for an outfit, or add a pair of those cat ear things and call it "neko lolita".

er, sort of an ita story. My friends were applying for AA at a local con, and some of the stuff they were selling they marketed as "sweet lolita jewelry." These consisted of:

    >bracelets made of blue-violet floral parchment paper, with cheap black or white lace, secured with thin silver cord.
    >necklaces made of purple/green cord with 4 or 5 purple/green beads, and a miniature bottle filled with sequins and glitter
    >cell phone charms with the same purple/green cord and beads but had a ceramic owl bead at the end
    >gothic style fashion scarf made of sheer frayed fabrics sewn together (which looked pretty cool but never should be called any kind of lolita)

Then they couldn't understand why they didn't get in.

My comm, dare I to call it that, is nothing but 19-25 year old high-school-weeb annoyances.

No good stories in particular, but the head one, as I like to think her, is a black chick whose first [and only lolita she's worn out to date] is that classic blackxwhite lacy catastrophe...

    wait for it,

    from Milanoo.

A Question, and this is loosely related to itas...

I mod a DA lolita group, and it's basically my job to keep the lolitas in and the itas out. This was submitted to my group, and I denied it because the skirts were too short for lolita.

The artist replied back with "they're just holding their skirts up"

I still think they're too short though. Opinions?

If this is a before and after picture then I think you still have A LOT of room for improvement. You're definitely not 'straight up' ita any more, but for the outfit on the right (assuming you're in red):

-the pink socks peeking out, take them off
    -fishnet/lace tights, gotta go
-hair, try a different style, some thing that frames your face better, or wear a wig
-the umbrella/'parasol', your dress is a VM replica (classic lolita) and does not go with hello kitty
    -mini hat (?), bad idea

You're welcome! I think solid black or non-fishnet, crochet stockings will be better. I agree that you should not go bare legged. Maybe brush out/style the bangs of the wig so they suit your face better? Blunt bangs and side-swept bangs are popular, so experiment and see what works for you. As for parasols I think a black and an off-white/cream one are wardrobe staples for classic lolitas. They are easy to coordinate with everything. Is that a rose corsage on a headband? Then I think it should be OK. Maybe it will look better once you re-style your wig. Oh and I just noticed the boots. I think some elegant wine coloured high heels will look better, but the boots are not terrible per say.

it took me so damn long to actually buy lolita clothing that my ita stage was more of "adjusting to lolita fashion rules of coordination" than anything else. never had a lace monster, but I did wear a blue and white outfit with black patent leather mary janes. People thought I looked like Alice and maybe if I'd owned the petticoat I have now back then, it might have been alright (I've seen similarly colored coordinates done to great effect) but I was not experienced enough in coordinating to attempt that.

I still never have any idea of what to do with my hair, in and out of lolita. it's part of why I keep it longer because it's thick and wavy and I tend to have more bad hair days than not with short hair.

One of my friends is kind of an ita. She said she had liked lolita for a long time before we even met a couple of years ago and that she was excited when she learned that I was into it too. However then she showed me pictures of her "lolita" coords... and they kind of looked like this pic, no kidding:
    >>4731537
Not as dirty-looking but yeah, she had the fishnet armwarmers and all that fuckery going on. I kind of tried to nudge her to the right direction by letting her borrow my GLBs and showing her websites etc, I was thrilled when one day she said she'd like to split a BL order with me. I showed her some nice starter pieces I thought she'd like and she soon ordered our crap.

Turned out she had actually picked all the other pieces I mentioned (blouse, socks, accessories) but changed the JSKs I showed to pic related. It doesn't look that bad in the picture and was considerably better than what she wore before but it was still pretty horrible IRL. Since I didn't want to push my tastes on her any further after that she's just now gone back to buying GLP and K-Star off ebay and calling it "gothic punk loli".

She's a sweet girl but kind of a lost cause.

Then I realized I looked bad and I didn't come back (i was posted on /cgl/ for my bad outfit) Now I'm better looking, know how to style myself, and I have nice clothing, and I want to try meeting people again, but I'm nervous and wary still. sounds like you're just gonna have to bite the bullet and try going again.

if you think it would help any, post a coordinate you'd wear to a meet here! since you were posted here for a bad outfit before, we can help you improve it now before you potentially make an ass out of yourself again.

but most of all, try not to beat yourself up- I know it's harder than it sounds, but it's important. remember that most of us had an ita stage, and for some people it took them years to grow out of it- some people never have and are totally oblivious to the fact that they look like a hot mess! at least you're aware now.

I would just go. To be honest, there are a couple of girls in my community who have been posted here by others because their outfits aren't (or weren't) the best, and I don't give a shit. They're nice people and that's all that matters. At most meetups and in most situations, that's all that matters.

I brought this girl to a meet up once, and she embarrassed me so badly. She wore this asymmetrical black and white Bodyline skirt with an oversized Rush band t-shirt. She also wore a black pinstriped Fedora that had a chain on it, circle rose tinted sunglasses, black and white striped footless tights and flats. She wouldn't talk to ANYONE at the meet, and later on acted like the other lolitas were snobby for not talking to her. She told me that she didn't think any of the other lolitas knew who Rush was, and they wouldn't get her t-shirt.

I'm so sorry, girls. I never should have brought her...

I remember running into my old friend from grade school through the internet (we went to different high schools at the time), and I saw a photo of her wearing a fairly infamous wa-lolita dress from eBay (I don't have any pictures and I'm using a shared computer; sorry). It turns out that she's loved the fashion as long as I have, but never bothered to do much research over the years. Although she's not great at hiding her power level, at least she did improve from before.

Sadly. And then the various iterations of the handbook that strictly dictate skirt length, color combos, lace type, etc... It's crazy. Remember the girl who thought AP's lace was bad because it was net, not crochet, lace? She posted to EGL a couple of weeks ago, IIRC, and when I asked why she would ever thing that she was shocked and said she'd read that crochet lace was the only good lace.

Sometimes I miss ye olde days. There was more shitty shit, but at least people weren't saying black x white make you an ita or skirts above the knee make you a slut.

actually, a well fitting corset *shouldn't* hurt. it's going to be snug, and a hell of a lot more constricting than the clothing we're used to, but it shouldn't cause pain unless you're wearing it wrong or it doesn't fit right.

Ugh. I was an accidental ita, and I'm terrified the pictures will end up on this site. I hope they stay buried deep in people's cameras.

My friends and I bought these cute little headpieces, and they told me "The last day of the con, we're all gonna wear these and have awesome outfits! I already know exactly what I'm gonna wear!" So I spent the next week trying to coordinate things from my closet to work with this random headpiece. It happened to have a lot of lace, and it was black and white, and my friends convinced me to carry around my Disneyland parasol. I never intended it to be anywhere near lolita, but someone could easily have taken it that way.

So basically, day of the con comes where we're supposed to do this, and my friends didn't do it. And avoided me like the plague so they wouldn't have to deal with the shame of admitting they didn't. It was really awkward.

Does anyone else hate all the sympathy itas get? I can't stand hearing "If they're not calling it lolita, why do you care if the lace is cheap and it doesn't follow the rules? Maybe they like that look, and they should be able to wear whatever they want!"

There's a reason why. Because this looks like shit. It looks fucking terrible and they should feel bad for looking that terrible. And don't give me "All lolitas look stupid to people who don't know the fashion!" There is a difference between ita crap and a Victorian Maiden dress.

This girl at my school is overweight, greasy, and unattractive. She thinks she can pull off wa-loli, needless to say she can't. She ordered this hideous... thing offline. It was made out of black halloween costume material with red butterflies (I think it's from bodyline, one of their misses) and the "underskirt" gave it no volume at all. Not to mention it barely fit her. She also wore it with striped tights and balck tennishoes. It was horrible.
Sorry don't have pics. you're probably better off that I don't.

Is a kodona story ok? I saw a Lolita who might have been cute (she was far away) who was with a girl kodona that was looking like shit. The outfit didn't fit right and looked sloppy and plain like she put no effort in it. Her hair looked wet (how do you call it when it's stuck to your head?) too and I think it was dyed some horrible patchy color orange?

She was being really very loud. She talked bad about some of the goods in the store right in front of the people who worked there and was even a little mean to the Lolita who was with her! I could hear all she said even if I was across the store or up looking at shoes. The woman who worked with shoes didn't look happy with that girl and she tried on clothes that were too small. I wanted to say hi but I was afraid to come near. (Sorry my bad english =A=;;;)

I've been stalking/following the fashion for six years, and am only buying my first brand dress now. I /knew/ I wouldn't be able to coordinate anything properly before, my style was a complete mess! Plus, since I'm not 13/14 like when I first started admiring it, I can afford full coords, and keep my "normal" style up to date as well.
I hated that one month this year when egl had an in & out of lolita theme. Sooo many girls were alright in lolita, but couldn't dress themselves to save their lives!

I still can't style my hair properly though....thank god for normal looking wigs.

I'd go to a goth shop in atl before I moved and whenever I was in there, there was at least one ita. Most of them were anywhere from sixteen to freshmen in college who thought they knew what they were talking about and try and be rude to the employees or talk shit about the merch like in >>4736591. Although, I saw one who looked in her mid thirties. Two girls who couldn't have been older than 17 were once talking shit about a male employee over in the corner and talking about what a bad "prince" he made. He wasn't even trying to do aristocrat. The guy just dressed in Victorian clothes and was actually really cool.

Once, I was wearing an a-line skirt and a blouse because I had just popped in from work and these two chubby girls that were in dresses that were way too short and covered in lace came up to me and said in a kind of snotty voice that I needed to button up my blouse and wear a skirt with lace if I wanted to be a proper Lolita. I told them that wasn't what I was going for and one of the girls sneered "Good." or some bullshit. They continued to give me the evil eye until they left. I know they were kids and all, but their behavior was still ridiculous.

I hated the georgia lolitas for a long time before I met some of the girls who were actually in the local community and knew what they were talking about. A few if them were sort of awkward or weird, but most of them were pretty sweet overall. I only met one who looked halfway decent that was a total bitch but I think she was the girlfriend of one of the other girls.

Yeah but not to worry. I got to know the other girls and like I said most of them turned out to be pretty cool. There was one girl that was freaking adorable and was wearing a yellow dress but I moved before I got to see her again.

Actually, I saw her too and I don't think she was trying to be a lolita, more like "deco-maid" or something.
