be honest, the logistics of making a plugsuit for someone other than
yourself is quite difficult just because the fit needs to be so precise.
An ex-boyfriend wants me to make Kaworu for him but even that would be a
challenge seeing as he would have to pretty much live with me for as
long as it would take to make the mock ups, let alone to live in a
different city entirely.
Just for the sake of argument though, I
think the supplies for Asuka cost between $200-$250 but I'd highball it
at $250 because if I were to make it for someone else, I'd use 4-way
stretch PVC which would cost more and I'd need to get it online. Usually
I charge by piecework (so for example $2 to insert a zipper, $1 for
every meter I have to hem, $2 for every pattern piece I cut out etc) but
for the amount of fitting and precision hand sewing that goes into a
plugsuit, I think it would be more appropriate to charge by the hour. It
took about 20 days to finish Asuka, working on average 15 hours/day. I
make $9.25/hour where I work right now and since I'd be taking time off
to make the suit, I'll go with that as my hourly commission wage.
So a theoretical completed Asuka plugsuit by me would end up costing $3025. |
