    Picture this, /cgl/.

A troop of con staff decked out in generic (or not, depending on whether or not they come up with a mascot) cosplay and wandering around the con, serving as information people and extra con security. However, this is merely their secondary function.

The primary function of these people would be to act as "Soap Fairies", giving out small care packages that include one little bottle of shampoo, one little bar of soap, and a "Con Hygiene and You!" pamphlet, with cute illustrations depicting the Soap Fairy mascot instructing people on good hygiene habits at cons. These care packages would be carried in a matching basket, which the Soap Fairy could use to carry all of those care packages.

Soap Fairies would either give them out to people who ask or walk up to people they deem in need of their advice and offer them a Soap Fairy package.

What say you, /cgl/? What would you think if this idea was implemented at a con? Would you volunteer to be a Soap Fairy if you were Con Staff?
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)16:36 No.4715379
You cannot imagine the rage that would ensue if those "soap fairies" started handing out their care packages literally. Seriously. People who are in denial will go ape-shit.

Eh... Wandering around as con staff is irritating as it is. Doing it in cosplay might be going a bit far. The idea sounds hilarious though; would probably work better if done in a tongue in cheek manner.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)16:41 No.4715403
I would only approve this if rather than cosplay, they were all wearing tutus and had 'magic wands' with them. And even then, only if they were either all tiny adorable women or six foot tall bearded men. Or both.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)16:42 No.4715407
Give them "wands" which can spray out febreeze.

I love this idea to bits, but >>4715379 has got it in one. The sorts of people who need them the most are the ones who'll deny it the most.

I'm taller but I'd happily join con staff to do this job.
    >> Kαž 07/13/11(Wed)16:44 No.4715416
I'd like to see it done by exits of the con dances. The funk of the people that leave from there.. god.

    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)16:47 No.4715429
Honestly, I love this idea, but it's a quick way to get punched in the teeth. You're going to horribly offend a lot of people by doing this, even if they're weebs that desperately need the hygiene reminder. I would NEVER do this because I have some actual care for my own physical safety.

I'd make it on a request basis, rather than handing it out. Too large a chance of a hambeast going full denial mode and attacking the soap fairies.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)16:51 No.4715451
Eh, I shower once and sometimes twice a day at cons but if a "Soap Fairy" was just handing them out with a smile to everyone I wouldn't be offended. The best way to go about it would be to offer them to as many people as possible so it didn't look like they were targeting anyone, and to be super nice and have a good sense of humor about it.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)16:58 No.4715482
    They should stout, hollow wands.

When they see somebody using a yaoi paddle, they can dispense flowery-scented justice on the offender with a sharp crack of their wand.

problem is, if people think they smell fine when they make people pass out just by standing upwind of them, they're not going to ask.

best if the soap fairies hand this stuff out to everybody they can, but quietly focusing on the unwashed.

also putting hygiene items in the goodie bag is a better idea, I think. it takes the "YOU THINK I SMELL FUCK YOU" element out of it, because it's just what everyone gets.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:04 No.4715505
I remember that when I entered university, at the new students welcoming event, they offered a bag. The bag had a ton of fliers concernign university activities, some condoms, a keychan and an hygiene pack.

Maybe this should be applied to anime cons too.

I suppose. Although, seeing soap fairies wandering around a con would be d'aww-worthy.

Maybe they could be at doorways and stuff handing out the care packages.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:04 No.4715509
Either cute girls or bearded men do this. Both would would awesome. With tutus and little crowns, almost Fairly Odd Parents style?

But they'd have to be incredibly cheerful and positive, and act as if they're not targeting a particular group of people. Takes a bit of the offense away.

    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:15 No.4715549
It's a cute idea, but practically I don't really see the point. I thought hotels provided free soap and shampoo already. And if they're not staying in a hotel room, they probably have no place to even shower anyway.

Thing is it's probably by the start of the third day of the con that they're thinking they still smell fine.

    >>4715549
It's mostly to drive home the point that nobody smells like roses throughout the duration of a con. Obviously the free soap and shit at the hotels isn't working, as evidenced by the veritable walls of stench you can find wandering around cons.

All the Asians would mob these people for more free shampoo and soap.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:21 No.4715571
I think my idea is more effective.

I was going to wander around and tell people who stunk that a panel was going to be held in a certain room at a certain time. I'd lie about what the subject matter was based on what the individual looks like they might be interested in. I'd also mention that there would be free pocky to be had but that quantities were limited and if they showed up early, they'd get some.

Then when they're all in the room I'd lock the doors and bring out the fire hose and turn it on full pressure. It's impossible to stink when your first layer of skin has been abraded off by a blast of water.

    You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Now you just have an unholy, moist chamber that smells like wet dogs that rolled around in various piles of filth.

Have fairies placed in strategic locations; preferably at the exits of places where lots of people were. Have 3-4 manning the exits of panels, the entrance/exit of the game room/viewing rooms, and a whole troop of them wandering around as the eyes and ears of con security while spraying liberal amounts of febreeze from their wands.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:27 No.4715598
    >free hotel soap and shampoo

Most of these people stink because they're sharing a room with 10 other stinkers, and the average hotel room is meant for 2 people. Not to mention, the free stuff is one use sample size.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:27 No.4715599
The problem with this is that not only will people get offended, but even if someone admits it, its extremely embarrassing to be called out by a "soap fairy" that you smell like as in front of everyone. You also run the risk of someone that smells fine, but has the scent (like perfume) of something someone else thinks smells. Or you have people that have a natural scent that is cause by a medical condition, diet, or whatever products they use that you don't like. Then you have the douche bags that will out someone that smells fine.

I think it would be better to give this out as a goodie bag thing, and as booth.

You need soap. They will smell even worse when wet is something you don't realize.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:29 No.4715612
You know what I would love to see? A hardcore cleaning room. Stuff like, denatured alcohol, pumice soap, stain pens, detergent, bleach, towels, etc. Just in case people spill things on their cosplay and want to get it before it stains. Or they have something that's too hard to clean off with the soap in the bathroom. It could easily combine with a cosplay repair station.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:31 No.4715618
They'd have to be dressed up as cute fairies and be very cheery.

Also try to make it seem like its less a "you fucking smell" gift and more of a "hey are you guys interested in some goody bags?" type of deal.

But honestly the people who seriously smell probably won't even use them. Most people who have shit hygiene is because of their own laziness, not because they can't afford shampoo or something.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:37 No.4715639
    >Handing out goody bags

    Fuck. That.

You need to go on the fucking offensive. Have them wearing cute fairy outfits coupled with a spray that would give a TF2 Pyro a hard-on. Load up the sprayer with lysol or something (fire selector to choose between different scents), have the fairy go to town with a huge grin and sunglasses as he or she sprays the everliving FUCK out of people that smell like the living dead.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:40 No.4715651

    This.

It's sheer laziness. I don't understand how in the hell somebody can't shower for 3-4 days over a convention weekend. There's always time for a 10-15 minute quick shower. There's definitely time to put on some deodorant.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)17:41 No.4715654

While terribly cute, that would probably result in a lawsuit or three against the con that sanctioned it.

an idea struck me while reading this- Soap Fairies also have emergency supplies like mini sewing kits, tampons, and maps of the local area. They can also be counted on to be that extra set of hands if a wig has fallen out of place or whatever but your friends are nowhere to be found.

All Fairies must undergo a test to weed out all creepers first.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)18:11 No.4715754
OH! what if someone set up a camp shower style booth, either inside or out. Run on a donation basis. Obviously decency is a bit of an issue, but if "waaaah I have nowhere to shower" is their only excuse, then they can suck it.
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)18:40 No.4715860
    >>4715730
So they'd basically be "Helper Fairies", troubleshooters scattered throughout the con for those people who might need an extra hand here or there?
    >> Anonymous 07/13/11(Wed)18:54 No.4715930
Most people are either in denial that they smell or purposely skipped the shower. This will do nothing.

How about instead of expecting someone else to do it, start telling people they smell yourself, or loudly talk about it with a friend right next to them and cover your nose.
