>>4696940 You've
got it right! They're sold through the internet, although you can buy
them on-site for the next year. (Like people at the con this year can
get a badge for 2012.) That said, yeah, they're a bit of a pain to buy
online.
A) Online sales are unpredictable and have very little
warning in advance. They might go on sale as early as August. They might
not go on sale until late Fall. The con tends to just abruptly go,
“Hey, we’re putting tickets on sale in two weeks!” and leave people
scrambling to get money together. B) The online badges are selling
out faster every year. For 2009, they sold out in a few months. For
2010, they sold out in a few weeks. This year, they sold out in a few
hours. Once you find out when the badges are going on sale, you almost
have to take the day off from work/school and camp on the website,
otherwise you’ll lose your chance. C) Online ticket sales this year
were a huge clusterfuck. They tried to sell tickets three separate
times, only to have their websites crash every time. One assumes they’ll
fix those problems for 2012, but everyone is so angry about how the
system was that I’m expecting MOST people to get their badges for 2012
at the convention itself. Which means there will be even fewer badges
for sale online. D) Another option is to volunteer to work at the
convention. It sounds like a pain, but you only have to work a few hours
each day — and they let you pick when you want to work — and they
generally have you do something easy, like man a booth. Each day you
work, you get a badge for that day for free. So keep an eye on volunteer
sign-ups as a backup option!
/walloftext. I hope all of that is…
helpful and not discouraging, haha. :/ I just know what a pain in the
ass it is to get into that convention, after going through planning
three years in a row and then having my plans derailed at the last
minute. |
