Alrighty /cgl/, earlier I asked /a/ why everyone seems to hate Vic Mignogna so much. Seems the only problem /a/ has with him is that he's a dub voice actor and everyone on /a/ is a sub purist.

Let's see if /cgl/ can give me a legitimate reason to dislike him.

Mangina? I heard he hits on underage girls and singles them out. In a most uncomfortable aspie way. Loudly. Like in his panels.

He thinks he's God's gift to anime fans.
I can't stand him because of his ego.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/11(Wed)19:43 No.4684747
    1) He's a creep. I don't mean he says an occasionally lewd comment. Whenever young girls ask for pictures or hugs, he gets as close as he can to them, for as long as he can.

    2) He's an asshole. He tries to take over any panel he can be a part of and make it the Vic Mangina panel. He thinks he's the best thing ever and isn't afraid to show it.

    3) He's Christian. Not just "I have my beliefs and they fit my life" Christian, but "PRAISE JESUS OR BE DAMNED TO HELL" Christian. He flaunts his religion at wholly inappropriate times, which encourages his religious friends to think that's acceptable behavior.

    4) He's a shitty guest to have at a con. He demands a lot of stuff like private panels rooms for his cosplay church bullshit and all kinds of other crap. Almost anybody on staff who doesn't already like him ends up hating him after dealing with him.

    5) He is a poop-face.

My home convention had him for a guest for one year, we never invited him back. That says a lot coming from a non-profit convention that has industry guests back nearly every year to the point that we all stopped seeing them as guests and just as regular attendees.

Also on staff but for AnimeNEXT. Best part of having him at a con are the stories. I don't have any about him specifically though I know there were a few problems involving his events but I don't have anything directly involving him.

Anyway personal favorite is the autograph line for him ended up being cut due to it running over time wise. One girl who didn't make it in before the cut got so upset she started screaming hysterically and had to run over to the bushes outside to throw up. Then cam back and continued to scream with the same results.

I met him at a convention a couple of years ago. My friend actually paid me to have him autograph some of her shit, so I had to stand in that god damn line waiting for an autograph. Someone was there taking pictures of everyone with him, and I'm way too shy to say no thanks and walk away, so he stood there with me, so fucking close, and put his hand around my waist. Actually, no. Lower than that. I was incredibly creeped out.

But other than that, he was actually a pretty nice guy at our con. He walked around and signed things whenever someone asked. I ended up in an elevator alone with him, and he tried to chat casually with me.

My one issue with him was that, oh god, I remember this from the closing ceremony. He was giving out CDs of himself reading some bible shit in his characters' voices, as if there was a difference. I don't know, that really got to me.

It didn't really help his case he didn't really seem to give a shit she was getting raided and harassed.

My hatred for him was made even worse when he held his Rumor Panel sometime later and pretty much implied (or did the ballsy bastard outright say it?) that his fangirls should debunk any rumors they see of him on the internet.

It's been awhile and I had gotten to the party fairly late on.

Basically, a fangirl had discovered a thread on 4chan about Vic and started whiteknighting him. I guess in one of the multiple Vichate threads Cosfu was linked and she started whiteknighting him there. I remember something about him supposedly getting drunk (he claimed he didn't drink) and she or another fangirl set up a paypal saying they pay for proof of the drunk rumor. Since the girl was an idiot she posted her email on the email field on 4chan and of course got raided. Her email was hacked and an email from showed he basically gave her a pat on the head and told her to continue on.

Shit got pretty out of hand really quick. I do remember she had received phone calls and her parents got the police involved. In all truth, she did feed the trolls so some was deserved. From what I heard later Vic didn't seem to give a shit she got raided.

Then a year or two after this whole thing went down with 4chan/Cosfu he held a panel at a con to debunk the "rumors." He actually tried to backtrack on some shit he had said at earlier (which are on youtube) such as the Clamp/Fai thing. Around the end he either outright said it or heavily implied that should his fangirls see any "rumors" that the should debunk them.

I was a Ranger for a bit and one of the forum posts was a Vic 101 thing. Of the the "facts" was that Vic didn't drink except for wine at dinner. It was bit creepy. It was like Vic did or does no wrong and he is the perfect role model. It didn't help that he or Mindy (?) constantly would go on about how he does normal adult things but in completely adult manner. It would often be like saying, adults drink at New Year's parties but Vic only takes a sip or two of champagne at them.

Greece doesn't get him enough attention! Now if he had been Italy or America...

Actually this reminded me of something from the Hetalia comm. I think* some of the fans had emailed the dub voice actors asking them about how they prepared for their roles and if they were excited about doing them and they asked Vic. He didn't seem too happy and brushed them off. He wasn't extremely rude, just he came off as though since he didn't get one of the popular roles he doesn't really care. Everybody else who responded seemed pretty happy and were awesome.

*I really wish I could look it up but the comm is huge and I have no idea what it's tagged under.

It definitely comes off that way. Maybe it's just me but it just came off as, 'I didn't get the role I wanted so I didn't waste my time." I do get Greece doesn't have man lines until season 3 but to brush off a fandom seems like a dick move.

At Katsucon 2010 I recall him saying how he didn't like voice acting for video games because they took so long to come out.

No immediate recognition must piss him off so bad.

Also, on the same note, the man claims to voice characters he "shares morals" with or some shit like that.

Last time I checked, Zagi and Mitsuhide were insane sado-masochists. Okay Vic. Okay.
    >> Anonymous 07/06/11(Wed)23:39 No.4685942
Pretty much everyone claiming to have helped run a con is spot on about Vic.

He's incredibly self-centered, thinks he's the shit, and wants things to be ran his way. I help run a small convention, and we decided that between those qualities, cost, and a few other personal differences and decided against getting him. It was for the better though, we got someone better, who has helped us build a sort of business relationship in getting a good variety of other people in the industry.

On a business note, getting Vic will actually sometimes LIMIT who else you can bring in. There are people in the industry that hate him and refuse to be in the same area as him. For example, my convention this year had Eric Vale, where we not only spent a fair amount of time making fun of Vic, but he also told us about the time he refused to go to a convention that Funimation was willing to pay him to go to, simply because it meant that he would have to be with Vic. There are some people that don't like him that much.

Outside of the business aspect, yeah, he's a nice guy, just a religious nut, creep and a total douchebag.

    >>4685880
I would assume so. Speaking with Eric Vale, he was pretty honest in saying that he casted for America by giving his best impression of Vic Mignogna, only doing better. Apparently Vic tried to demand from the director that he be cast as America, and was told, in nicer words, to fuck off.

I remembered this and I noticed a lot of the actors who voice in Hetalia stated various answers on how they were going to approach the roles but it seemed like most of them just went with what they had available on paper at the time and developed how they were going to voice their character with the director of the series. Plus, Greece doesn't really appear until towards the end of Season two ( but he does get a little bit more time in "World Series". I really want to hear him fighting with the voice actor who will playing Turkey.) I think Vic did an good job because instead of using an accent, he just played with the fact that Greece is a bit soft spoken and plus, there's not many episodes with Greece.

Side note: If you get a chance to borrow the dvds, listen to the commentary by the actors. The best ones were Todd Haberkorn and Patrick Seitz where Todd accidently said "shit" and Patrick says I believe the German word for "Shit" for giggles. Then Jerry Jewell and I think Eric Vale did one together where Eric joked about how he prepared by voicing America by eat burgers and snorting cocaine off a stripper's ass and Jerry said he gets in the booth, strips down and gives himself a full body oil rubdown to prepare to voice Russia jokingly.

    >People are like, “How can you play Edward Elric because like, he's anti-God and anti religion and you know, he's against all that and you're Christian blah blah” and this is my answer: Have you ever lost anybody? Anyone you love ever die? Not yet, right? It will happen eventually—all of us will lose someone eventually. Every human being goes through tragedy in their lives and everybody deals with tragedy in a certain way. In fact, psychologists pretty much charted it out: there's denial, bitterness, anger, whatever, and you go through these stages. Well, I don't personally think that Edward Elric is so much of a God-hater or an atheist as much as he is a little kid who's been through a hell of a tragedy.

    >“You know, if I were you, I'd put away your scriptures and pick up an alchemy book, 'cause we're the closest things to God there are.” Well, he doesn't really believe that. That's his bitterness. That's his anger lashing out at God because he doesn't understand why the things that have happened to him have happened.

I volunteer for several cons for a few years now and OMFG this. I've actually witness him relentlessly harass several producers and directors for work SHAMELESSLY during guest parties or in the green rooms of the cons I've worked at. So many people in the industry just barely tolerate him. A few will express how much they hate him as soon as he's stepped out of a room. And he gives me the fucking creeps. He just fucking stares at me in this way that makes me so uncomfortable when I talk, even if he's not among the crowd of people I'm talking to but somewhere off within earshot. And it's not in a, "he totally wants to bone me" kind of way, not at all. I feel like he looks at me as if I'm some strange animal in a cage. I know that sounds lame and I wish I could explain it better but that's what it feels like to me and sometimes I wish I could just scream at him and ask him what his fucking problem is or to mind his fucking business. I have no idea why or how it started either, I have NEVER spoken to him other than "hi" "bye" and "Excuse me". Or maybe that's exactly why he does that, who the fuck knows.

He charged our con $2300 PLUS we had to pay for his flight and hotel room (in the hotel across the street from the con hotel, because a 2 story hotel ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR VIC. Gotta have a room on the TOP FLOOR) PLUS we had to pay for his food, souvenirs, AND he sold his CDs at our con too. He made a pretty hefty profit and got to go on a trip for free.

We basically had VicCon. He had a concert, autograph sessions every day (by himself of course. He wouldn't sign with anyone else.), plus multiple panels. And then he bitched when the main-events room was booked up most of the time for other concerts and the masquerade (rehearsals AND the masq itself) and we had to put him in a smaller panel room. (Our panel rooms aren't even that fucking small. They're huge.)

    >At Tekko on Saturday, Vic Mignogna was holding a Q & A panel to dispel some of the horrible rumors people like to spread about him. He started the panel by tossing Milkyway Darks (His favorite candy) to people in the audience. As one of the people in the audience reached out and snatched one of the candy bars from the air, he also snatched a chunk of hair from a cosplayer's wig. The cosplayer then gave the chunk of hair to Vic as a souvenir. He then used the hair to grow and large and luxurios mustache.

He was at one of the local puny cons a few years back and I heard a couple interesting stories from the event coordinator.

He had a dinner thing where he agreed to buy the 5-10 local Risembool Rangers dinner at Denny's or some shit. He showed up over an hour late and after being there for less than 10 minutes he called a limo to pick him up and he bailed out the back door leaving the event staffer to cover the tab and deal with his fat angry fangirls.

He also crashed another voice actors panel that was in the room right before his. He showed up early and went into her panel to see if she would clear out early for him. When she kindly told him to fuck off he went out to the line of weaboos waiting for his panel and encouraged them to make tons of fucking noise right outside the door to the other panel. After asking him a few times to control his fucking hambeasts so the panel could continue, the other voice actress just stopped and cleared out early, in which him and his fans gave her a condescending round of applause for leaving.

I was embarrased to be in the same building with those rude-ass fuckshows.
He's a fuckin dick, plain and simple, and most of his fans are just as bad.

I'm glad his popularity has decreased though, at least from what I can tell. He was at a con a few weeks ago and while I got autographs from other people for about an hour I saw less than 5 people show up for him.
