HEY LOOK FRESH MEAT. Wig definitely, unless your hair is exactly like egbert's. If you do go without a wig, for the love of god, dye your hair black, you can get dyes that only last a few weeks. My biggest pet peeve in the homestuck cosplay community is people with brown hair cosplaying black haired characters. It's a sign of laziness to me.
Get or make yellow shoes. A lot of god tier Johns skip out on the yellow shoes and it feels incomplete.
Don't settle for jeans, find blue pants.
The hood you'll have to make but there are a few tutorials lying around for that.

Luck to you then! I've had far too many fights with my sewing machine to pull that off, but I still suggest the cheaters screenprinting method for the shirt in order to give it a more polished look as opposed to sewing on a windy symbol patch
