Wait, let me rephrase that. Am I allowed to bring a bat into the con?
    >> Anonymous 06/21/11(Tue)00:14 No.4618032
    Google you fucking moron.

And no, you probably can't bring a bat.

I recommend thrift store, the hate especially is an older looking style to it. If you have any near you go check those out. They look like simple items but often times these are harder to find than you would think. Otherwise check your basic clothing retailers, target, nordstrums, american eagle, gap, where ever the hell you buy clothes. You can check online first to see if they have what your looking for before searching the mall.

Depends on the bat and the con policys. I want to say no unless it's plastic or foam, I know for a fact that metal bats are not allowed but I'm not sure about wooden ones. It also does really depend on the con. Go to your con's website and read the rules, there should be a section covering props.

    *hat

also if you cant find it you could get a white one and use some fabric dye, you can pick up the spray kind. tape over the part you dont want to dye (the bill or the cap part) then spray, let it dry, then repeat with the other part you need to dye.

i spent a long long long LONG time looking for ness stuff to just wear in every day life. sadly you are probably going to have to buy a polo shirt because you can't easily find shirts like that. the shirt from starmen.net is sold out. i had to buy one from American Eagle, hahaha

    http://fangamer.net/products/hatness

but here is the exact hat.

    good luck and fuzzy pickles!

Ness shouldn't be that hard to do. You could easily do the shirt by picking up a yellow tshirt, then stenciling in the blue stripes with some fabric paint(jaquards textile paint is good)

The cap. Pick up a red baseball cap, and paint the brim blue.

The bat, instead of taking in an actual wooden baseball bat, instead go for a plastic one. For example, a wiffle bat would be good.

You couldn't find a striped shirt and jean shorts? Why not? I'm actually very curious about this. That seems very unlikely.

OP needs to specify which con this is actually for. Different cons have different policies.

Also, OP can always email the con or post on the con forums asking specifically what kind of bat, if any, they're allowed to bring.

well, it was difficult finding a striped shirt of the right color. ness's blue stripes are more cerulean than they are navy, and they usually pair yellow with navy on those kinds of shirts. i had to buy it on ebay eventually. the hat i eventually got from this baseball cap site is the wrong blue entirely but it was my last resort. this was 10+ years ago, way before starmen came out with their stuff.

and of course i had jean shorts, i was a nine year old girl

JoAnn's is the primary shop you'd probably go to, to pick up fabric paint. Basically any shops that are geared towards being a craft shop(Not a hobby shop) should have fabric paint.

Avoid picking up "puffy paint" that stuff is not meant to do large areas. You can use Jaquards textile paints, but if you have difficulty finding it. Tulip(which is one of the brands that sell puffy paints) has "soft paint" which is the one you could also use.

when stenciling, remember you'll want to use a sponge.

I thought I will need cardboard for that to isolate the area I want to spray paint?

And I probably won't bring the bat since wood isn't allowed

I helped my friend do a ness cosplay, we got insanely lucky on the shirt.

We live in west virginia, and West Virginia University's colors are blue and gold. So the amount of blue and gold striped t-shirts is pretty staggering. we found one with wide enough stripes that had a patch sewn onto it so we just ripped the patch off with a seam ripper. Try looking into merchandise for sports teams that have similar colors that you can get offline, if it has insignia sewn on you can easily take it off.

It's in a really small bottle though...Am I supposed to mix it with water and pour it out in a dish before using the sponge?

Size of sponge and how do I get clean, straight horizontal lines? Is there anyway to undo mistakes?

Not that there are more yellow parts, but that the blue may show through the yellow paint whereas the yellow won't show through the blue. So more yellow paint would be necessary to prevent this.

Just straight paint it on with your sponge. If you dilute it with water the color will not be as strong. You can block off the non-paint areas with freezer paper, contact paper, or tape (painter's tape, the blue masking tape, works well).
    >> Anonymous 06/23/11(Thu)03:15 No.4628001
For my Ness shirt, I took a plain yellow t-shirt, and measured the stripes. I counted 9 on my reference photo, so I measured how long the shirt was, and divided by 9. This gave me 2-inch wide stripes that I marked all the way down the shirt. I started painting around the collar first, then worked my way down.

Insert a piece of scrap cardboard (like the side of a 24-pack of soda) inside the shirt just in case you dilute the paint too much. You don't want it leaking through to the other side.

Two things I should have done:
    1) I only had one bottle of fabric paint in the shade I needed and it wasn't enough. And I couldn't buy any more because they stopped making that particular shade. Buy two of them, and if you have to dilute it, make sure you measure it out so it's the same each time. My stripes were substantially lighter the farther down the shirt they went.
    2) No matter how careful you are, you will spill fabric paint on an area that doesn't need it. I have a big blotch on the back of the shirt because I knocked over the paint bottle onto my fabric. :/ So mark off your stripes with painter's tape to avoid that mishap.

For the hat, I was lucky enough to find a plain red baseball cap. I used dark blue fabric paint on the bill and the button.

you can usually bring a bat if it's wood or plastic. Not steel.

But, do your self a favor and make some parts of the costume. get some exp in. and it's freaking easy

starmen.net's marketplace has pretty much everything except the shoes. Not sure if all of that stuff is sold out though.

I'm painting the shirt, cap and shoes myself and I'd have to dye some pants a darker blue.

I screwed up on 2 areas though. Cap looked red in the store but under normal lighting, it looks burgundy red. Should I paint a lighter red over it?

And shoes are one of those plain canvas shoes with a rubber tip. Would it look weird if I painted the rubber tip red? I bought the shoe in white and have painted the canvas parts red

Should I leave the shoe laces as white or go yellow?
