06/23/11(Thu)03:15 No.4628001For
my Ness shirt, I took a plain yellow t-shirt, and measured the stripes.
I counted 9 on my reference photo, so I measured how long the shirt
was, and divided by 9. This gave me 2-inch wide stripes that I marked
all the way down the shirt. I started painting around the collar first,
then worked my way down.
Insert a piece of scrap cardboard (like
the side of a 24-pack of soda) inside the shirt just in case you dilute
the paint too much. You don't want it leaking through to the other
side.
Two things I should have done: 1) I only had one
bottle of fabric paint in the shade I needed and it wasn't enough. And I
couldn't buy any more because they stopped making that particular
shade. Buy two of them, and if you have to dilute it, make sure you
measure it out so it's the same each time. My stripes were substantially
lighter the farther down the shirt they went. 2) No matter how
careful you are, you will spill fabric paint on an area that doesn't
need it. I have a big blotch on the back of the shirt because I knocked
over the paint bottle onto my fabric. :/ So mark off your stripes with
painter's tape to avoid that mishap.
For the hat, I was lucky enough to find a plain red baseball cap. I used dark blue fabric paint on the bill and the button. |
