Unless you're actually somebody (and let's face it, what "somebody" is going to an anime convention?) then I really couldn't care less if you showed up in a limo. Definitely attention whoring.

Lolita here. Super stylish. I love confident show-offy cosplayers
    >> Harley !!Ocs2iA9hfoy 06/18/11(Sat)00:35 No.4606607
Depends on the situation. But any "grand entrance" can be considered an attention grabber, cosplay or not.

That once was done to poke some fun at the christian protestors that are at the con every year. A lot more entertaining the random cosplayers that like to heckle them.
    >> Clau 06/18/11(Sat)00:36 No.4606609

I thought that entrance was pretty stylin'. Nice to see cosplayers getting creative beyond the costumes. When you've seen about your hundredth P&SG cosplay at the con, good or bad, shit like that really sets you apart.

Besides, we're all attention whoring in the end in our costumes.

It's hard as hell to pull off well, that's my issue with it.
If you do it, you HAVE TO DO IT. Go all out, pull out every stop, and make sure, above all else, that your cosplays are completely spot on.

Otherwise, it comes off as stupid. I personally like the idea. But execution is everything.

If it fits well the character their cosplaying, I just find it more accurate.

I seriously don't care how people spend their money. I spend thousands on cosplays ever since I started, I work in a bar which make, personally speaking, quite a lot (around 250$ minimum going to 400$ when we're busy of tips per night). So for me 100$ is just pocket change.

What I don't understand is, why little 12-16 years old bother to save up a whole year of allowance to make cosplays and eat instant noodle. I mean, I admire their commitment, but allowance can only go so far...

People do it at dances, sporting events, any sort of event where there are several hundred people gathered at a enclosed venue for a common interest (DOES IT SOUND FUCKING FAMILIAR?).

Lolita here, and I love OP's pic.
If the context is right and you also make sure that someone is shooting, then it's like setting up a photoshoot isn't it? Renting a limo is not big bucks anyway, geez. If it's more than 1 person and you split it, it's less than the cost of a cheap wig FFS.

Having said that, I think it only looks good if the costumes are good. If your costume is less than great, then it's just embarrassing. Not that mind less than great costumes, as long as people are having fun... but if you don't look perfect in your costume, why would you wanna draw attention with a grand entrance...

Limos for proms are way tackier than a limo being part of a cosplay entrance. At least in the case of a cosplay, the limo is part of an almost skit, and part of a photoshoot. Limos at proms? Yeah... hambeasts and desperate girls kidding themselves that they are princesses.

In my opinion it really depends

The PSG cosplayers nailed it because everyone knows the characters are already attention whoring bitches and there is already so much PSG cosplay that arriving in style adds more flair to your costume. The fact that they arrived during the "christian protest" was icing on the cake.

People who cosplay characters that aren't really meant for spotlight attention or just cosplay really badly should not worry about a grand entrance and, in the case of the bad cosplay, should focus their attention on bettering their outfits before worrying about entrances.

I agree that it can come off as arrogant, but cosplay is kind of an attention whoring hobby. If I ever saw someone make this kind of entrance, as long as it was in character and well done, I would probably think it was a fun/funny spin on a costume or an interesting spectacle instead of bitching about how conceited some other nerds in costumes can be.

I'm curious: are there any "grand cosplay entrances" that you anons would like to see, if not find stylish? I don't care how ridiculous they are; let's make this a fun thread!

    >One day I'm gonna come to a con (Otakon) in my uniform and vehicle.

That is highly inadvisable. You do not wanna be that off duty cop that gets jammed up for doing dumb shit at a con. You also have a higher probability of losing your badge and gun while in a con environment..
