    http://conpix.net/

I just found out today that Mike Schweizer of conpix.net passed away. I can't claim to know the guy personally but I always saw him taking photos in Bay Area cons around the area and it was a blast to talk to him and his daughter. I was always impressed with how good his photos looked and his ridiculously fast turnaround time where you could start seeing him upload in little over 24 hours of the time he took your picture.

I'm going to miss seeing the man taking photos at all the conventions in my area. Many of his pictures got uploaded here in various threads. I'm still in shock from this news.

Sorry for posting this /cgl/ but I felt the need to share this info.

I'm friends with his daughter on facebook so I wasn't particularly surprised after they announced he had been admitted to a hospice, but I did think he had a bit more time left. It's incredibly sad. I really liked his photos and work in general and I'm sure he's going to be missed by a good chunk of the NorCal cosplay scene, if not the west coast/overall con scene in general.

It's very surreal when something as somber and real as this happens in such a frivolous, escapist hobby.

Oh man... her birthday is next month. I haven't seen them in years. I had no idea he was sick.

I didn't know his health was failing him. Now it makes sense why I haven't been seeing him in the past year, I always thought I just missed him or that life was getting busy. I see now that my guesses were wrong.

I have been looking over his pics, I would normally just look for mine but I been looking over the ones from some of my favorite cons just now. A few years ago I was just getting back into cosplay after about a year and my costume wasn't so great, I was talking to his daughter and he asked to take my picture. That whole con I was dodging pics because I really didn't feel up to snuff, I told him as much and he told me "Well, it is what it is, but I will make you look good." It seems from these pictures he did that for everybody.

Man, this guy was really good at making people feel comfortable in his photos. May he find his eternal Avalon.

Oh man. I remember he took pics of me and my friends at AX last year. He was a great guy and really kind. Really sad to hear that he's gone now! He was a great person

I was wondering if this would be posted here.

I'm really sad to hear that Mr. Schweizer passed away. He was the first photographer I ever did a photoshoot with. I really do miss him, as I'm sure the rest of the cosplay community has. Thoughts, prayers and our hearts go out to him and his family.

My friends and I always called him "that cool old guy with the camera." It was so awesome to know that even a man his age who was a father could have fun at an anime con.

    This news is really sad.

That was the beauty of Mike's photographs he always made sure that you walked away with a photo that was meant to show off. The guy would always be taking pictures, at cons, during shows and even waiting for the bus to the convention which was when he took some of my pictures at AX. He wasn't too picky about your costumes either, as long as you wore something that looked interesting he snap you photo. He didn't seem too concern with fandom or any other BS, he was the the type of guy who really loved taking pictures and sharing them. I'm looking through his gallery now and noticed that he was not afraid to take two or three different photos of a single cosplayer using different poses, and locals. Normally a photographer would do that to a special select few with hall photos but he did this with nearly everyone.

I just can't believe he's gone. The guy with his, camera orange shirt and gigantic "grandpa glasses" was an iconic image at every Bay Area convention I went to. If cosplays gather he was there, be it AOD, JTAF, Fanime, Cherry Blossom Festival or even the meetups. Kinda like that one really tall photographer who kinda looks like Genzo from one piece with the long brown coat, huge beard and military hat. You could always count on Mike to show up and take great pictures of everyone.

Things aren't going to be the same without him.

this is some pretty heavy stuff

There's a homage to him going on where everyone's changing their profile pics to a photo he took. I don't know how far spread it is, but maybe you guys can spread it further in memory of him.
