was the beauty of Mike's photographs he always made sure that you
walked away with a photo that was meant to show off. The guy would
always be taking pictures, at cons, during shows and even waiting for
the bus to the convention which was when he took some of my pictures at
AX. He wasn't too picky about your costumes either, as long as you wore
something that looked interesting he snap you photo. He didn't seem too
concern with fandom or any other BS, he was the the type of guy who
really loved taking pictures and sharing them. I'm looking through his
gallery now and noticed that he was not afraid to take two or three
different photos of a single cosplayer using different poses, and
locals. Normally a photographer would do that to a special select few
with hall photos but he did this with nearly everyone.
I just
can't believe he's gone. The guy with his, camera orange shirt and
gigantic "grandpa glasses" was an iconic image at every Bay Area
convention I went to. If cosplays gather he was there, be it AOD, JTAF,
Fanime, Cherry Blossom Festival or even the meetups. Kinda like that one
really tall photographer who kinda looks like Genzo from one piece with
the long brown coat, huge beard and military hat. You could always
count on Mike to show up and take great pictures of everyone.
Things aren't going to be the same without him. |
