ITT: Things you wish they would tell at Cosplay 101 panels. I'm hosting one at a local convention and would love to hear what you think needs to be said.

    Definitely.

Include a short wig styling tutorial, like how to brush a wig and style spikes.

A pointers on shopping for quality materials? (Both online and off)

A list of places/sites that have lots of tutorials for props, costuming, makeup, wig styling or whatever else.

    A list of places/sites to get good wigs/circle lenses/supplies.

And for the love of all that is sacred and holy: PROPER SUPPORT GARMENTS.

I don't care what it is. I don't want it flapping/flopping/sagging/drooping/swinging or otherwise doing weird things when it is not supposed to.

Math, people, do you use it? A lot of costuming length determinations easily be done with a bit of basic math or even 6th-grade level pre-algebra.

Don't costume as genitals and be outraged when you're banned.

Start with more than enough time to complete the project, nothing is more disappointing than having to rush through your costume and ending up with sloppy results.

Take your time with the details, they can really pull everything together and make the difference between cool and awesome.

Lots of thin, even coats when painting props, and never be afraid to do one more coat to make it perfect.

Overestimation is better than underestimation when it comes not only to the amount of materials, but the cost as well.

Don't be wary of asking for help, using a tutorial, or having to start again on a piece. Failure is in fact an option, and no matter how much help or guidance you receive it is still your costume.

those are a few things I wish every one thought about, even though they are a bit more on the common sense side of things.
