I honestly don't have a picture that goes with this but:

What is more important in cosplay, /cgl/? Having fun, or being accurate?

I think as long as you're having fun and not cosplaying a 300 lb Yoko, you're good.
    >> Anonymous 06/13/11(Mon)14:28 No.4587930
Definitely having fun. I personally value accuracy, but I also tend to cosplay obscure characters and characters that don't get a lot of attention, so my work will never be viewed in a very competitive light anyway. So, I definitely do my best, but in the end I'm just doing it to have fun.
    >> BLUE !./././VTrk 06/13/11(Mon)14:29 No.4587937
    Having fun.
There's nothing better than going to a convention in cosplay and having an absolute ball.
There may be people who tell you that you don't suit the character, but honestly if the only reason you cosplay is for the acceptance of other people, then that's not necessarily a good thing.
But aye, the most important thing is to have fun.
You may not get to often. Might as well have a day or two of something special.
    >> Anonymous 06/13/11(Mon)14:30 No.4587943
I think as long as you're wearing a costume that suits your body, go for it. Some of the better cosplays I've seen have been done by larger people. I don't know why it evolved into such a bitch-fest but Cosplay is supposed to be fun, not to make you feel like you've shat on someone's grave because your eyes are brown and not blue like the character you're dressed as.

    /cgl/ is full of hypocrites.
All of them will tell you that having fun is the most important part, because at the end it is.
But all of them will run and say something nasty/negative/offensive about almost any cosplayer posted in here.
    Gotta love /cgl/
    >> ThatGirl 06/13/11(Mon)14:36 No.4587963
I definitely prefer having fun. I feel terrible looking at the photographs afterwards, but if I was an accuracy nut then I'd feel horrible leading up [Since all my time would be consumed by ACCURACY], during the event[ditto], and afterwards [thinking I am NOT ACCURATE ENOUGH].

If someone nitpicks, says 'Wrong,' or general bitches about your cosplay fuck em.

Having fun because I definitely am not the best cosplayer, and I only dress up to have fun/ pay homage to my favorite characters.

    Kinda off topic here.

If you don't wanna be criticized, maybe you can do a cosplay that doesn't have any references? Something like, "Mobster" Mario, or a lot of the rule 63 characters.
    >> Dr. Quinzel !0g3sfAiF6o 06/13/11(Mon)14:56 No.4588040
A mix of both. Coming up to the con, it's all about accuracy. How much can I get done, and get done well. But as soon as the con hits, fuck it, i'm going to have a good time.

I just don't wanna get bitched at. Fuck you, I'm a fatty and I'm doing an America cosplay and you can't do anything about it, nor can you have a cheeseburger.
    >> Anonymous 06/13/11(Mon)15:02 No.4588060
    A bit of both, really.
I'm an accuracy freak myself, to have fun/be happy in my costumes, I have to be satisfied with how it looks.
While I get annoyed when I see people wearing a costume that's, in my eyes, wrong, or not suited to their body type, I'm not gonna flip my shit at them over every little detail.
Sure, I wish they'd be more acurate, but I've really got no place saying anything about how other people hoose to dress, at least not to their faces.

having fun. i have sacrificed accuracy for comfort at the last few cons, and comfort leads to fun. im going to be grumpy if im uncomfortable.

I've found costume accuracy to be grossly overrated. Unless someone has an actual pic of the character to compare against you, they won't notice missing and incorrect details.

Unless you're in a costume contest, just getting a decent, recognizeable costume together is fine.
    >> Anonymous 06/13/11(Mon)15:12 No.4588110
I honestly think it's a mix of both. And maybe it's just me but if I saw another cosplayer dressed up as the same character as me, and they did a much better job of it, I probably wouldn't have as much fun.
    >> ThatGirl 06/13/11(Mon)15:13 No.4588112

Off topic, yeah, and I know I'm just asking for it when I wear America, but it gets old when people ask me where my hamburger is or fonching for food off me. I get how that bugs you.

Answer: Hippie America. I'll tell 'em I'm vegan just to give the obnoxious fans a kick in the [usually] metaphorical balls.

Yep this. Even most characters I really love, I would probably never notice if the hair was too long/short or a color was off, a detail missing etc.
The big exception is Sailor Moon, I'm a huge Nazi when it comes to sailor fuku. I'm sure there are a few fandoms where people tend to be really particular.

This is why I love you Blue. You always make me laugh.

Sorta off topic but the weeb fandom idiots that bother to read the manga of APH would know that America eats more than Mcds. He just prefers burgers than anything else. He actually eats and has ate:

    Donuts from Dunkin
    Subway
    Pizza Hut.

Curious what the heck is OP cosplaying?
    >> Anonymous 06/13/11(Mon)15:28 No.4588182
Having fun is more important, but accuracy is also needed.
It's more fun when you have an accurate costumes because cosplay is a hobby that we all do, at least in part, for others. If you're costume looks like shit, people are going to not take pictures of it and will tell you (online at least) that it looks like shit, and as a result you'll have less fun.
