Otakon's lack of interesting panels is why I don't really feel like going. They had umpteen hundred panels about Hetalia fandom last year. Why not have one Hetalia panel (maybe an additional, "overflow" panel if necessary) and free up those 12 other slots for other fandoms? Just because something is "popular" doesn't mean everyone in attendance likes it.

People who like anime from earlier than around 2005 are screwed. Forget it if you're a fan of 70s and 80s anime, you won't find a panel about it at Otakon.

Oddly enough, panels were CRAZY IMPORTANT to me as a kid running around with my uncle, but now I'm more focused on seeing friends, winding down and relaxing, and maybe wandering in and out of a panel or workshop.

I love the Manga Library in the Hilton when I'm getting tired, cause it's got nice chairs, is calm, and I can read some Chobits or whatever while I rest my feet.

It depends, different subcategories of gyaru have different makeup styles. The one we usually talk about on cgl is gal which is more casual and natural and much more contemporary than the Manba style which this girl seems to like most. Manba is pretty old. When you consider the style, she doesn't look nearly as ridiculous. Google manba and you'll see what I mean.

It had a bit of a resurgence under the "retro is back" thing. Egg did an article last year in May or June's issue showing that some people still did it. But for the most part it's totally dated, and same with Ganguro. If you look at any Gal Magazine you'll see maybe one picture at the most. Most Gal models are only slightly tanned or a nice color close to caramel at the darkest.
