I wore goth loli on the train a few weeks ago but my boyfriend blocked me in by the window.

Then there was the parade of about 20 lolis on the subway after sakura matsuri. It didn't help that half of us were screaming down the platform at the other half who had fallen behind. There were probably many surreptitious cell phone pictures taken that day.

And this >>4473268 is pretty true.

    True.
I live out in the boonies and one thing I hate about it is needing a car to get anywhere. Not to mention how expensive gas is. It's hardly worth going to stores now since overall it's cheaper to buy online than drive to a mall.

If I lived in a city or larger town I would either just walk or take some sort of public transportation.
    >> Anonymous 05/16/11(Mon)13:50 No.4473289
    >>4473260

having a car in the city is pretty unnecessary- hugely expensive too. I love the CTA, 2.50 a ride~

and when I'm in school I have the godly, gold standard for public transportation- the UPass. it's like 100 bucks a semester but it's just counted among your tuition expenses. so it feels free and there's no limit to how much you can use it.

    From the site:
    >because she has more money than you. Seriously, she is probably wearing clothes that cost more than you earn in a month.
And yet, I have a car.

And I seriously don't see why lolitas get so personally offended when people outside the fashion find their clothes amusing, silly, or outlandish. You had to know this would happen the minute you put on your cupcake petticoat.

Agree!! I am fine with trains and buses but I also walk a lot. It's great for staying fit. I walk to uni everyday (which is about 40 mins one way) and I always walk to the grocery store and for errands and stuff. I actually enjoy it. I don't think I will ever get a car unless I move somewhere with no convenient public transport links.

Where I live public transit is mainly used by the working poor and college students. I'm jelly of people who live somewhere that public transit is actually useful. It takes forever, the bus stops are nearly in the street and they can be dangerous. Raleigh, N.C. is made for cars (huge gaz guzzlers that hog the street). I would like to trade in my civic, but it's just not safe for a woman to wait at bus stops any later than 9pm. I also don't like people harassing me or invading my personal space- I'm about to tint my windows because I'm tired of people staring at me.

I hear you. walking is one of my favorite things to do, I'll just wander around aimlessly and usually stumble upon some epic little antique shop or cafe. I actually hate driving with a passion; I'm already an anxious person and driving does not help. I can do it, but I'm much better in a slow, not-busy little town like the one I grew up in. I would NEVER drive in Chicago unless my life or someone else's depended on it.

thankfully my boyfriend really loves to drive.

cost of me having a car:

Cost of car (thousands, minimum, if I don't want a junker) + insurance + gas to keep it going + monthly parking fee of $30 + all the parking fees I'd pay in my city where free parking is rare

Cost of bus pas and walking or biking: $10 per month.

In a city where I don't need a car and it's more expensive to have one and pointless on top of that.. hmm....

Have you heard of Lolita paparazzi?
This is what we do to all the people who try to take sneak photos of us. Don't get me wrong, if someone is pleasant and asks for a photo, that is fine, we will be polite. But you know the people who snigger and whisper and covertly whip up their mobiles to take a sneaky pic?
Snap them right back, in their faces. Then post online. We have a facebook group called "Loli Paparazzi" where we post all their pics.

Don't forget that most cars usually need about $500 worth of maintenance yearly.

I got a FREE car last fall that was about 12 years old and only had ~10k miles on it when i got it. It hadn't had any service for about 10 years, and one of the parts finally broke last week and it cost me around 2500 to fix the myriad things that needed servicing for lack of attention for a decade. My family was trying to get me to go buy a new car instead.

    >mfw they wanted me to spend $30k instead of 2.5k
    >> Anonymous 05/16/11(Mon)14:28 No.4473398
The hilarious thing about all the car arguing, is that if it's the girl I think it is, she totally has a car. Sometimes people who live in cities (or just outside them) have a car and ALSO use public transport. Parking in the city sucks, yo.

Ugh... buy a better car? My car is 16 years old and it needs very minimal upkeep. It's the vehicle tax, inspections and gas money that kills me...
It will not be a big deal once I'll finally done with grad school, but right now it hurts.
    >> Anonymous 05/16/11(Mon)14:36 No.4473419
    >>4473409
the car is fine, it just hadn't been serviced in 10 years and one of the parts, those parts that aren't designed to last more than 3-4, finally broke. You're supposed to take it to the shop more frequently than once a decade, grandma just didn't drive all that often and never needed to have it checked that often. Now that it's been checked over it should be good for a year or two, and it shouldn't need extensive maintenance like that again for a while.

There's really no sense in throwing away something that only needs a little love the second it stops working. That's a very wasteful attitude.

Let's face it, most lolitas are losers. They're the female equivalent of D&D larpers. Most of them haven't graduated college, aren't married, have little or no career prospects, and get along by mooching off their family. They spend all their money on lolita clothes to try to impress people on the internet because they don't have anything else going on in their lives.

So yeah, it makes sense they'd have to take the bus. Cars cost money. And it's not like you have a real job.

Not everone in the world NEEDS a car, like they need food and shelter. I don't need a car at this point in my life, so I have some extra money to spend on hobbies. Why would it matter if these hobbies are lolita, cosplay, games, collecting anime figurines, or something equally geeky or weird? My lack of a car is not affecting you in any way, nor are the hobbies I spend my extra time and money on.

I feel bad for those people who live in areas where taking public transport is a sign of poverty. They don't sound like very pleasant places to live.

Girls, stop feeding the troll. I would think you gals would know the drill by now, especially with KabukiMouse, but apparently you need to be reminded.

Doesn't herajika have a PhD in Genetics or biology or something? Don't know for sure but someone posted it here once...

Why not? It would shut me up pretty quick, wouldn't it? I'd be proved wrong in an instant. Are you trying to claim that a university diploma would have some sort of special private information on it you couldnt show to the internet? That alone proves you don't have one since you dont even know whats on it.

Just man the fuck up and admit the truth: you're a loser with no job, no car, no man and want to make lame excuses on why its okay to be a loser.

Why are you all so easy to troll? Are you retarded? They aren't even trying, and yet here you are trying to explain yourself.

Shit like this is WHY everyone thinks you're so insecure. The fact that you think you have to explain yourself to a TROLL.

I saw a lolita on the bus, once. I wasn't dressed up, and I was too shy to talk to her. Fail, I know.
    >> Anonymous 05/16/11(Mon)15:37 No.4473647
Once when I was dressed in lolita on the bus from school, a woman came up to me and complimented my outfit (she had to tap on my shoulder because I had my earphones in). I was really surprised that a stranger on the transit knows the fashion. It turned out she was a former member of the local community.

Yeah, I think it's a fucking rude thing to do to anyone, no matter what they look like. People should be able to go about their day without worrying about idiots taking pictures to laugh at with their friends.

Tbh, it doesn't anger me that much if someone snaps a pic of me if I wear something that stands out. What REALLY bothers me is when the assholes (like that site where that pic is from) are snapping pics of people who obviously have an injury or a medical condition as well as when they snap transvestites or transgender people who already look as if they are not 100% comfortable. I am probably sensitive with the latter, cause one of my best friends had to live his life as a woman for more than a year before he could get the final OK for his operation. And it is a hell of an awkward stage when you are on hormones and transitioning but still can't pull off the female look well enough. And then you get assholes snapping pics to submit them to sites like these... :/

Why do people think lolita dresses cost the same amount of money as a car does? Last time I checked, my entire closet full of lolita clothing cost me less than half the price of a decent car (I'm not considering old, beat up junkers that would eventually cost 3x their original price in maintenence down the line)

If someone is spending so much on lolita clothing that they can't afford a car, then daaaaayum they must have a lot of clothing.
