I went to a DoDDs school and refused flat out to stand for the pledge. I got in trouble at first, but my dad emailed my morning teacher and told him I don't have to stand. I'm sorry but
    A. I don't believe in pledging my allegiance to any country. Fuck that.
    B. Don't believe in God. Though I could over look that part.

The pledge of the united states can be offense to people due to the under god part as well as other view points, such as government worship hype.

They had a similar problem with muslims saying the pledge in schools here.

There is no dual citizenship in Japan; it's hard for an outsider to get citizenship in Japan period. They are strict when it comes to that.

She's better off doing a teaching program that is in Japan, vista, or anything else if she wants to go that bad.

She tried to get into the JET program a year or two ago - you know, that program where you have to be fluent in the language and have a good working knowledge of the culture?

She never got in though. She was really depressed over that. I mean, she was practising her kanji every day really, really hard after she put in her application!

Can't she just not say the "under God" part? It wasn't even in the pledge until the 50's, it sounds just fine without it. Just say everything else except "under god" like a sane person if it bothers you so much. No normal person is even going to notice or care if you don't. That's what I do and no one has ever noticed.

Depends on the state/school and how religious it is.

Because I couldn't do it in my school but my school was strict Christianity.

People can and will give you problems over miner things such as that. Especially really zealot people or people who need to waste time.

Remember how that one girl messed up the pledge during the super bowl, even though half the people don't know the pledge anyway?

And I have actually been to America. As a school trip my class visited New York City for a week (and went on a single day trip to Washington D.C.) While I love big cities because of the anonymity they offer, I couldn't help to notice that New York City was one of contrasts. The small Gothic churches between iron and glass giants aside - it seemed like a rich and flashy city at first, walking in the right districts... But a few steps in the wrong direction and there were homelessness everywhere. How can you can a city or a country rich when there's so many living in the streets? The most advanced and rich nation must be able to take care of it's weakest inhabitants, or it doesn't seem very advanced and rich to me.

    >>but personally the things I'm most weirded out about america is crazy patriotism and religiousness.

Just wanted to say that this is crazily overblown. I lived my entire life in Mississippi which is probably the most cited state for crazy religious and patriotic fanatics. Truth of the matter is, it's really dependent on where you live since the US is a huge and varied country that can make you feel like a different country.

For instance, where I am it's a church in every corner but it's definitely not pushed. It's just there and sometimes you see fliers for a bake sale or fundraiser for a charity or something. And around here, I mostly stand and sometimes cite, but not the under god part and no one really gives me shit. My area has a huge military base so a lot of my family has officers and it's a show of respect for their service.

I'm not saying the US is the bestest country in the world, but it's a nice place and you'll definitely find some areas better than others. More than Americans, citizens identify themselves to specific states or regions so it's really no different when other europeans wank their own countries.

Then I took a long geology trip to map some faults in Utah for a class and it was like going to another country. Every place is so very different and if one has never visited the US I personally suggest trying to visit as many different places as possible. It's hard to judge such a huge country based on one town in one state.

I know a lot of zealots in the midwest that think the devil is in people who commit suicides from pre-existing conditions among other things.

Some parts of the south is like this and some parts are lax so it really depends on the area.

No, she has it in her head that Japan is the only place in the world where she feels like she'll really belong and that she'll fit in perfectly the second she gets there, and that everything will be better then. She sees it as the perfect remedy to all her problems in life.

you have to make more than $80,000 in a year to have to pay US taxes.

you also have to report all savings above $10,000 which is a pain.

with exchange rates it can affect a lot of people who are in the upper middle class and can't really afford to pay more taxes which is why some people renounce their citizenship.

Extreme case of weeaboo; thinks Japan is the 'best country ever desu,' and thinks USA sucks balls hard. Oh jesus shit, PT honestly gets dumber and dumber every time something new crops up here. It's like her IQ is regressing with every disgusting, barf-worthy photo of her fat, flabby griddlecake ass.

Like the other Anon here, I'm British (born English though, didn't move from anyway) and even England hates the fuck out of America, can't even begin to imagine Japan. I haven't been yet myself, but one of my friends is half-Japanese and goes there at least once a year to see her family, and people are VICIOUS to her just cause she looks kind of white and speaks English. I mean, she's really pretty, very thing, and has all the Asian genetic traits (dark hair and eyes, eye, nose and mouth shape, etc) but you can still tell that she's partially Caucasian. She's told me horrible things about how people treat her.
Can't wait for PT to experience even nastier racist biggots.

You must live in some shitty place in England. I'm an American in London, and nobody gives me shit. I used to worry about that too, so I wouldn't tell anybody that I was American till I felt comfortable with them, in the end nobody gave a shit. Specially nobody who mattered.

Only my friends take the piss out of my accent and how I say words. So you're basically proving to me that no matter what country you go to the reaction you get from people varies from area to area.

I'm really, really white and a bit chubby, but when I went to Japan I tried my best to understand what people were saying despite the language barrier, stayed quiet, and just overall acted respectful and the worst things I got were strange looks on the train. Other than that, everyone was very nice to me(...aside from some Indian men who were on vacation, but that's a different story), even when I stated I was American.

Ah, I was more or less trying to get that point across, but got derailed by my own ramblings.

But seriously, PT is going to be laughed at and made fun of for being a fat old wrinkled white whorebag, people will point and laugh on the streets, and some clothing stores will probably even refuse her service, because of her bulging, oceans of heaving fat.

We can hope that she'd do the sensible thing, realise what a pathetic retard she is, come back to the USA with her dreams ripped away, and then get the fuck off the internet never to be seen again and get a real job. We can hope.

What is more likely is that her autistic delusions are SO STRONG that she will just block out all the laughter and stares and pointing and racism and people judging and making fun of her (just like now) and come back to the US even worse that before.

    Enjoy, seagulls.

I can see your point, but she's honestly the nicest, sweetest, most quiet and polite person I've ever met in my life. Like I said, her family is in Japan and she visits them there a lot. She knows how to act and how to conduct herself. She still gets hate, because her Japanese is accented and she is quite clearly only half nipponese. Not everyone there treats her in a bad way, but some still do and that was my point. PT would get it even worse.

What I don't understand is, realistically, what does she expect to DO in Japan? Like many people have said, she won't be able to get a work Visa, especially since she likely won't have a job lined up anyway. She could illegally immigrate, of course. But who would hire her? I saw a show once about some Canadian and European girls who moved to Japan to become hostesses at bars, and they made good livings but often they got paid extra to have sex with their customers and that's where the good money came from. But then you have to worry about transportation and navigating your way to your job and securing a place to stay. Who would rent to her? She's being very unrealistic.

Hot dogs come in cans here so no problem with that.

I thought about living in London instead of ol' USA due to the government issues and police problems. I can change my eating habits in a second and it seems like a fun place to live. I know I won't be able to find fried chicken and gyros like here but meh. Is it also a good place to transition in terms of govenment and law besides 'all hail the queen?'

Also PT seems like she doesn't know Japanese laws fyi. Law system there is worse than many other countries when it comes to women and their rights.
