If you've gone to a con in another country, were there any differences in the convention itself, the fans, attitude regarding cosplay, etc. compared to your home country's cons? Have you ever been to a con in a country that you don't speak the language of? What persuaded you to travel to the con in the first place? Any amusing stories in general?

I haven't yet, but I'd like to attend Japan Expo (pretty big con, usually great guests, and not too far from my country); a friend asked me to go with him, but I doubt we will this year because he's an idiot who changes his mind too easily.

    I'd also like to attend Otakon because a friend I care a lot for goes there and I'd love to finally meet her/do silly things and maybe even cosplay together. Also, all the horror/drama threads made me curious and I think it'd be interesting to see what the American con scene is like first hand. I don't know when I'll have the money though: I'm still just a student and I don't earn much money with the few jobs I can get. ;_;

    I live in Italy, btw.

I went to a lot of conswhen i was still living in Chile they are a lot smaller of than the ones in the US of course
i loost my mind going to AWA and MomoCon the first time haha
you get to meet a lot of people in them though since they are small cons and we are usually the same people so we all know each other after a while, people are really friendly
also stuff is way cheaper than in here lol there are no AA though and if there is its only like 5 people, i think i only saw it at one con...
cosplay wise i guess they are ok, buying cosplays online is not an option since Chilean mail is really bad and lots of htings get lost so many people just make their stuff in there... cosplay contest are kind of weird like they are not just walk on and they make you do something on stage [make a small skit, sing or whatever]
we have cons all the time and there are gatherings every weekend~

I went to a cosplay event in Japan. It was more of a gathering than a convention.

They had a masquerade style competition, where you got on stage, walked down this runway style platform doing character relevant poses, and then when you got back to the stage you answered 1 or 2 audience questions, while staying in character. It was actually really fun, and I like the concept a LOT better than masquerades!

Oh! And I havent done it yet, but i'd really like to go to an American con. from what I gather they are actually different than canadian cons, the people who attend are different and some of the events are different and they seem just.. a lot more like a giant party.

I went to a couple Dutch cons.
    Differences
-Dutch cons are slightly bigger but the dealer room is smaller
-Lot's of side activities, in Belgium it's the dealers room, the compo and a gamers corner if you go to the bigger ones. It kinda feels like you're walking in a big store instead of a con
-The fans are a lot younger and louder in the Netherlands
    - People are... less uptight? They give you hugs when they meet you for the first time and talk to you like they've met you ages ago. Here we're more... formel? But that's the culture I guess.
-Cosplays are a little bit more mainstream *hipster*
-They speak English all the fucking time
I like Belgian cons better, since there is nothing to do, you talk to more people and you have more time to do other stuff like playing monopoly or having a picnic. And everyone knows eachother.

Have you ever been to a con in a country that you don't speak the language of?
    ... Does Brussels count?

I would love to go to a convention in the US. Panels, big masquerades, lot's of guests, lot's of real drama instead of the fake one here...
