    Left to right:

Classic cream looks great, the off white is perfect and the black is contrasted well.

Grape looks nice. The grape runs on SLIGHTLY on the pinky side than blue side.

Seafoam Candy looks wonderful and perfectly true to image.

Bordeax is the only disappointment as the burgundy looks like a deep hot pink rather than deep and classy.

Anchors Aweigh looks spectacular. Clean lines and good blue and yellow.

Steamy Tea looks fun and the browns compliment well.

Sailor Blue will need an adjustment because the blue looks purpley rather than a true sailor blue.

Chocolate is going to have to be lightened because spoonflower printers read that deep dark brown as black pretty much.

    cont....

Smaller pic for those who like smaller.

    Continued from above:

Elegant Gothic Pony Derpire Romance looks great. The blue is deep and mysterious looking

Moitie also look similarly mysterious albeit with lolipops.

CandyFloss looks superb. it may be the best of them all. The colors and contrast suit their printing process to a T

Derpy Carnival is sweet and pastel. I think the twisty poles should be darker as they are so light. Those that own Sugary Carnival should weigh in.

Bitter Berries turned out so well. The blues are so well toned together.

Lemon Sherbet also ranks very well. A nice soft yellow like sunshine.

Clover Hoof is spectacular. The detailing is superb and the color is really really spot on.

$22 USD. Anons kindly offered up their monies for it.

    >>4416498 What are the measurements of these swatches, just for reference?

I was just about to get to this but thank you for asking. Each square of sample you see is 8" x 7.75"
So get your rulers out and make sure that's a scale everyone is happy with. If not, I can easily change it for something smaller without having to order new swatches.

    Oops I missed yours, sorry.
That's not camera flash. It's sun. The fabric the swatches come on is quilting cotton which is 78x 76 threads per inch. It's good for little projects & irons well. But the thread count is just 78x76. So you could see bright sun behind it.

I've ordered both quilting cotton and the organic 230 Thread Count cotton. I would make my clothing of the organic stuff. It's thicker, softer, irons well, and less cheapy looking. I also think it takes on color just the slightest bit better.

However you could order a swatch and cut out what you like size wise and then heat and bond it to a plain tshirt.

If you can find someone who can do a nice satin stitch around the edge that'd make it look swish.

Psh, it can't be too difficult to sew a t-shirt. I'm sure someone I know around here has the equipment (measuring tapes, sewing machine, fabric scissors).

Worst comes to worst I'll head back to TO some weekend and use my sister's equipment. Would make a test t-shirt before using the fabric, of course.

    OP here.
I wondered about that too when I was doing this. The stopgap to that is that I extended the pattern of the fabric up to 56-58" and the highest butterfly goes up 27" on the standard design. So that leaves you 2.5 feet of un-patterned fabric you can use for matching bodices, bows, rosettes, ect.

I have entertained the idea of making matching stripes, dots, or butterfly fabric for the really popular ones so people can really get awesome with their dress making.

27 inches? Hmm that is pretty high. Most of my skirts are barely 20 inches in length. I hope it doesn't cut the pattern off too much.

There should be enough solid fabric left for the bodice/sleeves, but if all else fails, you can try bringing a swatch to your local fabric store and searching for a color match.

The cotton sateen is the best for dresses, right?

I'm looking to use this pattern to make a sundress. When I saw an example dress made with this pattern it didn't look quite as cute as the pattern, but I figure if I shorten it a bit it'll work just fine.

Okay, I've thought about it some more, and have realized that making a t-shirt out of it would be kinda awkward because the pattern would repeat 2 3/4 times around the thing.

What material type would be best for the cut-out and the whole heating/bonding process? What exactly would be doing the bonding? Some kind of glew?

Any of the materials would be fine really, but something not stretchy may be a little easier for you.

Heat and bond is a sheet of fabric. You cut it out to the same size as your printed fabric and then use an iron on top and it bonds between your fabric and your tshirt. It's very simple, a lot of people use it for applique.

    Have fun! :)

You can't make a circle skirt with this kind of pattern sweetie since it sits on the edge. But you can make a simple skirt. Depending on how much 'poof' you want 2-3 yards should be fine!

Look up patterns for a-line classical shapes or cupcake shapes depending on your preference.

loli skirts are usually rectangle skirts, about 3x your waist measurement (or whatever line on your body you want the top of the skirt to hit) say this is 30 inches, you will want at least 90 inches of fabric, around 3 yards. I think?
    >> Anonymous 05/03/11(Tue)00:13 No.4417017
    >>4417005
A-line will not sit nicely with border prints. What's your waist measurement? 2 yards (cut, not pure yardage) might be OK if you have like a 24 inches or less waist IMO. If it's a skirt, just double up the selvage. That way you end up with 2 yards of fabric with 1 full yardage.

Anybody have good tips for working with a print like this for an a-line skirt, rather than a rectangle/cupcake skirt? I prefer the look but I'm worried it'll look, well, derpy. But in a bad way rather than an adorable way.

You'll be just dandy. The 20" mark is well above the tallest horse tail which is at 14" and there is a nice set of butterflies below the 20" mark as well so you'll have those too.

Do you have an image example? Meta has so many cuts I don't know what to look for. No that you mention it, IW's Flora JSK too uses border print with an A-line shape skirt BUT the design is randomly cut/not matched. It doesn't matter because it's a floral print, but it will look kind of messed up for a larger border print like derpy, unless the person is very, very good at matching up prints.

OK, I see. IMO that just looks like the petticoat sits at the natural waist bu the dress's waistline is high waist so it creates an illusion of slope instead of curve. It happens often with high waist dresses unless you shove the petti all the way up to where the dress's waist sits.

For JSK of simple design (minimum ruffles and other fabric consuming details), I'd say 2 yards should do if you have some experience in sewing and know where to cut. However, seeing as you're asking how much fabric you need, you should probably buy 3 in preparation of a fuck up.

How much fabric would I need to make this type of skirt?
I am sorry for sounding like such a noob, I promise I'm going to make at least 2 practice skirts before I my derpy fabric even gets near a pair of scissors.

I'm going to use one of my bodyline skirts as a pattern I guess, cut out 2 skirts-worth of muslin, put one of the muslin skirts together, see how it looks, adjust the second one to make any corrections, then use the second ones as a pattern on some other fabric, then once the second one is satisfactory, I'll try the derpy fabric. I was probably going to get 4 yards to be safe, worst case scenario I'll just make a shit ton of tote bags or whatever and sell them to recoup some of the fabric costs and so other sewing-retarded people like me can have *something* in derp-flavored fabric.

Nice :D Also, for UC, may I suggest a dress or skirt with a Derpy-chan applique? That you wouldn't need anything ordered for.
