So, since /cgl/ has threads on self-harm and psychological disorders, I was wondering how many kleptos we have as well. What do you steal? Where? Have you ever gotten caught?

I stole a peice of makeup like 3 weeks ago. I was overridden with guilt and fear, and I don't think I ever want to do it again.

Well, I would if the consquences weren't so bad. A forever tainted record and a day at jail for some blush? I'll just pay the 24$.

I stole a lot when I was younger. I even broke into someone's house.
I still miss shoplifting. I would do it if it weren't for my boyfriend. He'd be really disappointed in me.

I used to steal a lot. Mostly those $50 journals from book stores. And jewelry. I stopped when I was almost 18, not worth it as an adult.

Never stolen anything, not even sweets as a kid. When I was younger I was terrified of rows and now I'm older I know better than to steal, so....yeah, definatly not a klepto.
I remember once I was shopping with my Mum and I was thirsty so she told me to open the juice that was in the trolly and drink it and I started crying because I thought that that counted as stealing.

When I was in high school, I used to steal clothes, makeup, and food with this one friend of mine. We even stole DRESSES (not like prom dresses, but full-length dresses). Yes, we would go into the changing room and hide them under our clothes (wore sweatshirts, of course). The only time we ever set off alarms was in Hollister. They had a sensor hidden on the bottom of a perfume bottle. We ran, and got away. We mainly stopped after that to avoid consequences.

Yeah. I was a klepto for about two months. Then (and honestly, I even specifically thought "I wonder if I'll get caught this time") I did. I had it coming. I won't say I don't steal at all now, but it stopped being clothing and pricey shit, and now an occasional 99 cent cookie. I'm going to knock it off though.

I just started stealing shit a couple weekends ago. I just steal from Walmart though (white trash poorfag here). I've taken 10 rings, 2 pairs of shorts, and a pair of jeans. If you take off the barcodes, you won't beep. And if you take the jewelry off the little cards and stick it in your pockets, no one will be the wiser.

It also helps if the store is humongous...like Walmart.

I never steal from family and friends. When I was a kid, I remember picking up things at friend-of-a-friend places, but I wasn't an everyday thing to do. I began stealing "regularly" since November last year, I forgot what started it. I mainly steal small items, things that would fit in my jacket's sleeves because they are kind of thick (so nothing pokes out) and big. I rarely get "medium" sized things unless I have the right bag and area to steal in. Places I steal from are fabric stores, craft stores, large department stores, and dollar stores. Never been caught, but one time I didn't check the item carefully because the sensors went off when it detected a metal sticker tag underneath. Luckily, I usually walk through sensors when there are other people going through so I could play it off as if they were the one setting them off. Right away I ripped off the sticker and threw it away. I try to push myself from stealing these days, reminding myself before I attempt that I'll just end up making things more difficult for myself.

Another anon, I was caught stealing something small. Jewellery, cheap shit. I'm in Canada, so idk if it differs much, but I got away with a slap on the wrist, and banned from the store for one year, because i'm an 80's student and my life is still ahead of me and have so much potential and other such drivel.
It succeeded in scaring the fuck out of me though, and now I hardly ever steal.

dammit. I feel like everyone in this thread needs to work in retail at least once, just to see what it's like to

    >>4416044

FUUUUUU. It's people like you that makes retailers lose money thus slowing the economy (I know, big generalization, but in a sense, it's true. Money has to circulate and we've invested inventory to be sold, NOT STOLEN). People think that they can get away with it at bigger stores, but even smaller boutiques know when an item is stolen. We're familiar with the products are sold and how many are actually in our system. Talk to anyone to works in Claire's.

I was embarrassed in front of my father, told that I was banned from the store forever, and if they ever saw me again, they'd call the police. Technically, with the laws of our state, I don't think they could actually do that since I didn't actually leave the store (caught me before I left), but it's not like I'm in a hurry to go back. It was a loooong way back home. Surprisingly, considering how strict my parents were when I was a kid (I was in college the first time I ever stole something, and on winter break), I didn't really get into any trouble. I expected shaming, yelling, and hatred, and instead got some understanding. They chalked it up to some issues in school. I still feel embarrassed about the whole thing.

I should mention I worked in retail before, and thinking about it... I did steal small things during my shifts (way later after I started). I'm a hypocrite for still doing my job of preventing in-store theft of customers, and I got to help out with LP when I have to watch the thief/ves in the holding room. I'd fall back to "stealing while at work" habit if I work in retail again.

Yeah, that's true, or else they wouldn't have those dumb questionnaires that constantly ask vague questions about your views on theft. Still, when you work in an environment where your job is to actually sell (let's say small sized shops like Hollister, in comparison to JC Penneys), you can't help but always be on your guard and pressured by your boss to keep the floor watched from suspecting thieves.

I'm very particular about when it's alright to steal and when it isn't. I generally try to avoid the temptation the best I can.

For example, I really have no problem with people stealing petty things like candy, or even a $8 thing of makeup or eyeliner pencil. But I think it's pushing it when people steal things like clothes, or more expensive jewelry (and those things are truly fair-priced). I'm a cashier at a superstore chain, and we're known around a nearby, scummy part of town that we're the easiest to steal from. I've seen people go in and out of the store, and I highly suspect they've either stolen food or condoms, but it truthfully isn't worth accusing people and going through the verbal confrontation. The way I see it, if you're stealing condoms and food, then you gotta be pretty desperate and tight-up on cash to do such a thing to begin with.

As for me? The easiest place I think to steal from that sells overpriced shit not worth paying the money for is Hot Topic, or other mall retail chains. Stealing from friends and family is a big no-no in my book. Don't get me wrong, I'm not above swiping a $20 from my parents, but it's not right. I won't touch my friends stuff. Just because I know the pain of what it's like knowing a friend has stolen from you (and adding insult to injury them thinking you're too dumb to notice). I equally hate when my friends decide to "borrow" something from me but they wind up "losing" it when I ask for it back after months. You might as well just be stealing in my face . . .

Pretty much, yeah. I have kleptomania and it sucks. Usually it's small trivial things with little value though.

I end up coming home with shit in my pockets I don't even remember picking up. Pens, packs of sculpey, glitter, a pack of candy, gum...candy wrappers...all sorts of small things.

My friends used to hand me small things they wanted from stores because they knew it had a 60% chance of ending up in my pocket and half the time I wouldn't even know. Bastards.
    >> Anonymous 05/02/11(Mon)22:26 No.4416574
I always used to steal shit from my school when I was younger. Nowadays, I don't make a point of going into stores and taking what I want, I just take money. I live with a lot of people and they constantly leave bills laying around the house. I just pick them up and nobody seems to notice or care. If they do notice that money is missing, they joke around about it. They don't know it's me and it's been a good 3 years of taking their money, I've probably stolen hundreds of dollars form them collectively. The moral: don't leave your shit laying around, people like me will take it.
    >> Anonymous 05/02/11(Mon)22:28 No.4416588
The only things I've ever stolen were a calculator from a boy who made fun of me in school, and a tube of $1 lip gloss from a liquor store because some girl pressured me to do it. I felt kind of bad about the lip gloss because the owners of the store were pretty nice and the girl was a fat two-faced bitch.

On the other end, one "friend" stole about $60 worth of makeup and CDs from me when she slept over, she also tried to steal my pencil box when I went to her house. My other friend has never stolen from me but every single time I go out shopping with her she always end up stealing something. I wonder when she'll finally get caught.

I was bullied a lot in primary because I was chubby, awkward as fuck, and preferred to colour instead of taking part in PE. As a result, I never had close friends (for example, I'd be 'best friends' with a pair of girls but when it came to people pairing up it'd always be them and not me). When I got into secondary that changed, and I worked really hard to better myself and lost a ton of weight, and stopped being so bloody odd. I got close with a group of pretty people who thought it was cool to drink and smoke fags when they were fourteen/fifteen, so I got pulled along with them. Two of the girls used to shoplift a lot, and since I was such a mummy's girl when I was younger I thought it was wrong, but after more time spent with them I began to pick up their unsavoury habits. Shoplifting being one of them.

We'd go to parties and one friend would rummage through coats for stuff, while I would keep watch. At first for me it was stuff like bars and crisps, but then it escalated onto me coming out of shops with a fuck ton of Urban Decay and Benefit male up. It kind of gave me a rush, to be honest. And it wasn't as if I didn't have the money. I'd often come out with loads of make up and small things with over a hundred quid in my purse. The coat rummager got very cagey one day and said that I shouldn't take anymore. Being the little git that I was, I didn't take heed. I stole some eyeshadow for her, for myself, and then we went on to another shop.
    >> Anonymous 05/02/11(Mon)22:53 No.4416694

When we got to the other shop I can't remember what I stole, but it was something which probably didn't even amount to a fiver. Before we left a plain clothes security man grabbed onto us and took us to the back room. I vehemently denied it (stupid, I know) while the 'friend' started bawling her eyes out saying she never wanted to steal, that I made her hold it or some bullshit like that and I got butthurt. This girl could lie about anything (in school if we had to pay twenty for something, she'd say that it was forty and keep the spare money for herself), so I should have known it wouldn't be above her to lie in a situation like that. We were in our uniforms, and we were escorted out of the shop and down to the station in the town. It was... embarrassing.

In the station they asked me questions like had I ever shoplifted before (I denied, denied, denied and said that it was my first time, to which they clearly didn't believe) and why I did it. I broke down a bit later and admitted to it all, while the friend kept crying and crying saying she never did a thing in her life although she was the worst! They called our parents and her mother wouldn't even look at me. They pulled my father in from work and he didn't have his car with him so we got the bus home. I couldn't stop crying on the bus. My mother flipped and said that I was grounded for the entire Summer (our Summer holidays were just around the corner), and when I tearfully apologized to the friend's mother she'd slam down the phone and said that I was to never hang out with her daughter again.

I steal stuff from grocery stores but only when I'm buying actual groceries. The last things I stole were a bottle of jojoba oil, a bottle of tea tree oil, and a bottle of vanilla (you seeing a trend here?). I used to shoplift things like energy rinks from the campus grocery store all the time in college, though. I'm pretty sure the only non-food or ostensibly cosmetic item I've stolen was a bracelet from Spencer's Gifts when I was 18.

I would NEVER steal from a smaller mom and pop store. Only big grocery chains.

I managed to sneak out one night and go to a mutual friend's party about a month after the incident, and the girl I shoplifted with said she got about a fortnight's punishment - and that was all. I was furious, but it couldn't be helped. I was the one who got caught, not her. Due to my isolation we drifted apart, I gained about two dress sizes, became awkward and cagey again and when we went back to school it was time for us to be moved into different classes. I had to start again since I knew nobody in the class, and I didn't make an effort. The friend and I would talk on the same bus to school, but gradually I found it more difficult to make conversation with her (whereas before I could freely talk) and those once chatty conversations then amounted to 'hi's before going completely silent.

When my parents and I went to the station to have a chat with an officer several months later, he told my parents and I that he was already after visiting the girl and her parents... And shockingly, he said that I was influenced by her, and he said that she was the one who most likely orchestrated the whole thing. I didn't expect him to say anything like that. He didn't tell me what they talked about obviously, but I can imagine it. She probably shifted the blame on me and made it out she never did a thing. He gave me a further lecture about how the shops end up losing money and how if I got caught again it would go on my record and that I'd have a hard time visiting other countries.

Since then, I haven't shoplifted or stole a damn thing. The thought of even stealing something makes me sweat, and every time an alarm goes off at the doors I kind of freeze. Every time a security guard not so subtly tails me, I make a dash for it. I can't believe I ever did something so stupid, and it has taken me YEARS to regain my mother's trust and recover. Four years on I have much better friends, have lost the weight I gained and feel at ease with myself. I'd love to tell you that the girl got what was coming to her, but she's sashaying through school like nothing has ever happened. There are still rumours of her being a klepto though, which doesn't surprise me.

I steal from stores every now and again, but never from friends. They're off limits and too awesome.

Its usually I steal makeup, hair stuff, books, candles, or essential oils since I steal only from a handful of grocery stores around my house. Pop in a little before they close, meander while getting a little real shopping done, occassionally slip something into my purse, and use the cash in my pocket to pay. They never notice a thing.

It's accounted for, not budgeted for in walgreens at least.

Every store does their own expenses and balances. If we get too much theft we do have to cut. I always try to cut orders and store use items before employee hours, but sometimes there is no choice if we are hit hard during the week. We are located right in a depressed area, and there is only so many people we can catch at a time. And don't get me wrong, I'm not about stopping poor people from being able to live. Hell, one time I caught an older woman stealing bread. I told her come back inside, and payed for her bread and threw in a whole bunch of soup and pasta. My only wish is those ladies would stop coming in and using EBT cards to pay for makeup to go in their gucci bags. Its people like the lady above that need them for things like food!

Short story short: If you enjoy the people in a store, I would not lift from there. It does hurt.

Can't stand when people steal from their friends, this girl I know used to try to steal my clothing. She stole my headphones, my choker, my bracelets... Then she'd give the stuff away to her other friends. Fuck what a bitch.

I always steal the pettiest objects, but I could never, NEVER bring myself to shoplift. I don't know, I guess I'm just too terrified of the law, and if I want trouble with cops I want it to be for something actually badass, or at least a bit more teen-angst-rebellious-bullshit. When I was a kid I'd steal from the desks of kids I hated (meaning everyone, I was an antisocial bratty little fuck), the teacher, anything I saw and thought I could get away with taking. It'd give me a sort of thrill to sneak out an object from class bundled up in my scarf or something, and hoping I wouldn't get caught, even if I just threw it in my closet at home . It felt like a conquest, I guess. I'd steal cookies and shit from the fridge in the cafeteria if I were supposed to be doing some helping there, and later I'd share the prizes with some of my few friends. Then I'd steal around and take anything from that friends pencils to their journals and not feel a thing. Even now, if I go to a friend's house and they get piss drunk and pass out, I'll look around their place to see if they've got anything interesting, put it in my bag, and act like nothing happened in the morning.
TL;DR: I'm a disgrace to even those in this thread.

A kleptomaniac gets this thrill, this drive to steal. I only steal when I and pretty much nobody else will give a fuck. E.g. pens.
I did let it overwhelm me when I was younger though...

I remember there was a classmate who had Yu-Gi-Oh cards and he was showing them to his friend. I wanted to see them because I'd never seen them before so I asked politely but he told me to go away in a very rude manner which offended me. So I made a plan...

The Coat room where everyone's coats and bags are kept is never locked during Dinner Time so I figured when Dinner Time comes and this person puts his Yu-Gi-Oh cards in his bag, I'll raid his bag, take the cards home and look at them all I want. And that's precisely what I did.

Later on though at Home-Time, I became overwhelmed by guilt as I could overhear him rummaging through his bag, complaining about how the cards have gone missing, complaining about how he wished he never brought them but did so regardless due to his friend's request and my heart sank. I took the card's home, looked at them thoroughly and when I was satisfied, returned them to him by placing them in a cupboard and screaming "OMG, LOOK AT ALL THESE YU-GI-OH CARDS!"

I used to steal manga from Borders.
    for srs.
I'd carefully sit in a corner with a stack of manga where no one could see me, pull out my books like I was studying after school, read some manga, find a few I really liked, rip out the sensor bar, and carefully slide it under my schoolbooks in my backpack.
After a while it became a challenge; to see how many books I could sneak in, to see how many I'd collected.
I was almost caught once or twice by accident, if I had forgotten to take out the security strip, but I was an adorable-looking little kid back then, and they'd assume it was a malfunction with the security detectors. It went on for about 6 months until I had stolen about $300 worth of manga....so about 30-something books.
The guilt overwhelmed me and I confessed to my mother what I had been doing. Surprisingly enough, she didn't blow up and whoop my ass like I had expected; she simply hugged me as I cried, took the manga I had stolen, took me back to the bookstore, and made an appointment with the supervisor of the store, and had me tell her what I did and why I did it.
The supervisor took back the manga (they were all in pretty much perfect condition), accepted my apology, and made me swear I'd never do anything of the like ever again.
Been too scared of myself and possible consequences now that I'm older to even consider doing anything similar ever again.

I used to have a real stealing problem when I was a little kid. I'd go to friend's houses and steal their toys. Just small stuff like tiny figurines and pokemon cards. And even from shops, I'd just steal everything I liked and everything I could. Mostly things I could get away with, like earrings and bracelets from stores. I'd go into classrooms at break times and steal pens.

man, I'm a small, cute white girl. on the one hand I KNOW I could totally get away with it, but on the other hand I know it's wrong and I can't bring myself to do it.

Why would you steal something that is already freely available.

I used to shoplift like a motherfucker in high school, I once stole over $1000 of shit from various stores in the mall in less than 3 hours. I never got caught, never even came close to getting caught.
After high school, I worked shitty retail jobs and didnt have a lot of money, so I still stole some stuff, like expensive makeup, but didn't go on massive sprees anymore.
Then I got an awesome job, great pay, plenty of money for what I wanted, and haven't stolen in years.

When I was a kid (under 9) I think my mum thought I was friends with alot of people I wasn't and would take me to their houses for a couple of hours whilst she chatted with the other mothers. I would always steal one small cheap thing I was pretty sure they wouldn't miss, like those little glass beads you get for plant pots or a plastic bracelet. I got caught once when I stole a bracelet with a bear on it and the girl who it belonged to found it in my room, I just told her that I'd liked hers so much I bought one for myself and if her's was missing she could have 'mine'. She didn't take it. I didn't like any of these people but I still feel bad for stealing from them now.

I used to steal quarters and loose change from a girl down the street when I was young. It started with 15 cents one day that I found on the floor and slipped into my bag, once she showed me where she kept her wallet I would sneak out money every time I was alone in her room.
It ate at me for years and years until one day I just had to get it off my chest and told my mom. She didn't yell at me like I though, just told me she was happy I came clean. I sent an apology letter to the girl I stole from and included cash equal to what I had taken from her.

I still feel terrible about it today, and I've never been tempted to steal anything since. After all, what's a few dollars over what would happen if I got caught?

I shoplift. Micheals, fabricland, wallmart, even dollarama. Just little stuff I can slip into my pockets, although a month of so ago I managed to swipe a box of prismacolor pencils from a zellers. I don't really feel any guilt about it, and I only ever hit up chain stores. I never steal from individuals.
