Because the west coast has a lot more catty bitchy and over critical people that have nothing better to do than mock any cosplay that is anything less than perfect. This has weeded out the shittier people and has left only the elite.

East coast here. Pretty much this.

Because LA is very conscious about looks and people tend to look better. Whereas east coasters are all pasty whales.

But Westcoast has all the really shitty tripfags. This can't be true.

Because we have access to the same resources that Hollywood uses.

West coast as a whole produces nicer random con pictures because it's so bright and sunny. Have you been the East Coast? Most of the time it's dark, gray, brown, and shitty.

Nice lighting makes for nicer random at-con pics, which is usually what's in question unless a specific cosplayer is being targeted, and then MAYBE their private photoshoot pics come into question

I've only ever been to cons on the west side so I can't judge them comparitively against other cons, but I do love the scene over here. At least in Oregon there's not any real drama with others, and there are so many great people involved

If I had to guess? The biggest convention on the east coast is Otakon, which draws people from all over that side of the country. While this is also true of AX, there are many more anime fans in LA than in Baltimore or any one area of the east coast. Going by the (fallacious) logic in this thread that "everybody in LA is good-looking," it would only make sense that a con held in LA , which is full of anime fans, will attract many good-looking anime fans.

West cons are just per dollar more fun. It reflects the people and the scene. Just look at ALA this year. I expect Fanime and AX to be pretty similar in that feel. (do you know that feel?)

We're more wild in the west, but cons wouldn't be nearly as fun if they weren't.

Personally I'm wonder how many people at ALA partied without getting shit faced. So many drunk people at that con. I ended up getting offered drinks a couple times from different people wandering around. The only one I actually took was the one Washu offered me, and that's because it was a closed bottle of beer(wasn't bad either) Wasn't going to take a drink of a random glass of booze that the person was probably to drunk to even ID for me.
