I used to like his videos because you saw really nice details of costumes you wouldn't otherwise see. Now between cosplayers singing and him having them make asses of themselves, I don't like his most recent videos.

OP, the novelty is just wearing off. It's a cool idea, and he's pretty much the first to really do it. But after you've seen a few 360 walk-about shots in fake slow-mo you've seen it all. Cosplayers aren't bothering with him as much anymore since it's like an hour of filming for about ten seconds of results.

I think this video might of been rushed? As its only 1 video and on his previous video he did miss his flight. This videos are good just when doing lip syncing he needs to plan it better to match it right

I think his work has gotten better overall, the Katsucon, Megacon, and Youmacon vids are definitely his best work. And in comparison you can tell when he's had an off con. It happens to everyone- cosplayers, lolis, panelists, AA sellers, etc. It was nice to see him trying something new and it might've worked better if the singers weren't so awkward. Over all? He's still one of the best cosplay videomakers, especially in the US.

He's fun to work with, he has a considerable amount of patience and is willing to give you the time you need to end up with a good shot. He's funny as hell too...I can see how his humor may rub some the wrong way but those people are just taking him too seriously. I really love running into him at cons, he's quite the character.

He's never been anything but extremely nice and friendly whenever I've seen him at cons. I haven't been in any of his videos (I don't have "flashy" costumes or anything like that), but I've watched him work and it's always really interesting. He does a good job, and as mentioned, he'll take as long or as short as he needs in order to get a good shot of the cosplayer. If you're not willing to make that time commitment, then stop bitching when you're not in his video.

Also, obviously he can't film EVERY costume at the con; it's a matter of having a good cosplay and being in the right place at the right time. If you want to be in one so badly, use it as motivation to get better. That's what I'm doing instead of getting butthurt that he didn't film me and whining about it to /cgl/.

On that note, there's a handful of other videographers at cons now who use the same or similar equipment to what Ackson uses. And their videos are no where near as good. It's not as easy as holding a camera and running around with it, you need to have some sense of creativity and have a good eye in order to think of shots will that best showcase the costume in question. Fan of his here, but personally I'd like to see more variety. I love Breathlessaire and Akuriko, but when the videos are nothing but them, it gets a little boring. Or regardless of the cosplayer, when it's the same costumes for the full video it's repetitive. He's getting popular enough that the more cosplayers he can feature in each video, the more people will like it.

I really like how this guy does his videos, he gets the "right" level of variety without making the video seem cluttered or overwhelming.

That would actually be a lot more creative than most of the stuff that came out of my school. hurr.

I personally enjoyed the video, it was an energetic fun piece of work. I didn't mind the singing parts cause it was something different as this was the first time the video actually engaged the music actively which I thought was a nice change of pace. When it comes Acksons's general con videos they always seemed like he was just grabbing random footage which always made his videos seem candid, the inclusion of the singing bits breaks this illusion and I think that's why some people don't like them as much.

I like his vids when he focuses on the general con as opposed to highlighting really good cosplayers. Moments like the Minecraft guy jumping rope are awesome cause stuff like that only happens at cons. It's hard to plan that stuff out and seeing the spontaneity of it all adds to the charm and makes you feel like you're at the con yourself with how close everything is being filmed.

Maybe more interaction between characters, too- not just cosplayers together, but interacting as the characters would. If that makes sense?

Like since someone brought up the Ohayocon vid, I loved the bit where the Bebop group was tossing the gun off to each other. Or in the MegaCon videos how he did the close up of Babydoll's eyes and set it up almost like it was all something she was visualizing. Stuff like that is really cool!

(Also, I do love the goofy things he'll include, like Pedobear kidnapping characters and cheerleaders, and seconding what you said about including stuff from the con in general to really capture the feel of what it was like to be there.)

Those are some neat suggestions but implementing them might require more preparation than normal. I mean not only do you have to find a suitable local to stage these shots but you also need to find cosplayers to fit the roles. The more shots you recreate the more participants you're going to need.
