Moving to the DC area soon all the way from TX.

Anything/anyone I should look out for? I'm more worried of the cosplay community over there? Sauce?

    Thanks in advance.

I live more in the Baltimore/Maryland area, but I do go to DC quite a bit. Everyone's pretty chill in the DC cosplay community.

Of course you get the bad ones, but there are the good ones too.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/11(Sun)01:10 No.4385755
I think it's pretty regular. Lots of hammies, lots of wannabe lesbos and a few really great cosplayers.

The only cosplayer I really can't stand goes by 'Demi'. Don't think she's popular at all though.

Make sure you avoid the DC anime club. Nothing but a bunch of weaboos.

The cosplay community over here is pretty varied.
    >Maryland cosplayers: FAKE LESBOS ERRWHERE
    >Northern VA cosplayers: some are good, but mostly pretentious
    >Central VA cosplayers: mostly poorfags but some are awesome and chill as fuck
    >Pennsylvania cosplayers are pretty friendly and good not many standout
Further north (NYC and Boston) there are a good number of godtier cosplayers.

    Watch the final episode.
I'm sorry if you're a good acquaintance of his, but watching him visit Japan was fucking awful. From what I could tell, he's a major creep to add on to the general awkwardness he showed on the show.

    >Honestly, what else did I expect from that shitty show, though?

    Sage for no topic contribution
    >> Anonymous 04/24/11(Sun)10:44 No.4386609
I'm in that area. In general we're all right, and there are a lot of things people have [meet-ups, etc.] in the cosplay community here. Never done DC Anime Club [I go to ones more north of the city, which are all around average/sometimes fun. ]

Though, considering most of the MD cosplayers I know are male, >>4385873 is a bit inaccurate there. ;P My experience involves people who know each other who happen to hat each other, though, so try not to get to tangled up in the friendships -- Not worth your time.

Marylander here. I agree, no DC anime club. Even the adults act like children, and there's always some sort of drama.

    >>4385793

This so much. Especially Marcie Heartless. He loves to creep on underage kids at cons, and he's crazy.

Other than that it's pretty chill, you'll rarely see these people, and if you do, RUN. You'll most likely have a ton of fun at Otakon too if you go.

I used to live in Fairfax County and go between where I am now and there rather often. From what I've seen the cosplay community is bigger then you would expect with a lot of decent cosplayers, and chill people pretty low on drama. It's also a good spot for conventions Anime USA is small but chill, Katsucon is always a blast, Otakon isn't too far away. Since it's a central location for the east coast it's pretty nice when you want to go to another convention. Plus there isn't nearly as much drama as there is in the TX scene (from what I've seen of it on /cgl/) seeing how the only people around there with any drama have all toned it down recently.

DC area includes Fairfax and Loudan County Virginia. Have you ever been there before. It's pretty much the wealthiest part of the country. There are a lot of multimillion dollar homes, the economy is practically untouched, the crime rate is low (not in DC that's the hood), people are nice, it's really international due to immigrants and people who were in the military. It's pretty much an amazing place to live and a fantastic place to raise a family because the school system in both counties is amazing.

    >Moving to the DC area soon all the way from TX.

    Story of my life.

From what I've seen, the DC scene is pretty much drama-free. Maybe it's the maturity we have from all those Capitol Hill and K Street jobs.

I've never been to the DC Anime Club, so I'll take everyone's word for it. I've wanted to go at least once, though, if only to promote my pet project.

As everyone all knows, the Big Three in the area are Katsucon, AUSA, and Otakon. All are great (despite technical difficulties with the latter), and there are some exclusives to be seen.

And for the love of God, go to MAGFest at least once in your life. The cosplay scene there is what I would call a "growing" one, but as far as cons (no its not a con its a party hurrdurr) go this one tops everything else in the region. The cosplay event makes a point of bringing everyone down a peg (no one spared), so bring thick skin and a sense of humor.

So what else can I say? This place is relatively drama-free, to my (rather limited) knowledge, and frankly we'd like to keep it that way.

Now for my own question to the rest of the DMVfags here: How fares the campus scene? I'd imagine that a big campus like College Park has got to have SOMETHING, and an "arts school" like UMBC has got to have something more! (Where I went to college, people were too concerned about balancing parties and internships, so the anime/gaming scene wasn't too big.)

Bro, I've lived in the heart of Salvadorian territory and never heard as much as a peep from them. Of course, I don't watch the nightly news - I go by my own experiences.

Sage for OT - Silly anon, Salvadorian gangstas don't cosplay.

Living in College Park area myself nothing really happens. You're likely to meet a few people who go to cons who go to UMD or UMBC, but other than that it's a pretty calm area. I know UMD has an anime club, but as far as I know it's dying right now from what I've heard. But definitely Otakon, AUSA, and Katsucon are blasts and you're likely to have a great time...As long as they don't set off the fire alarm again at Otakon.

My parents have worked in Loudoun County for nearly 10 years and I can tell you the exact opposite. The people are only nice if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, otherwise you're garbage to them. Their kids are all spoiled little douchebags and nobody their knows how to drive.

    Yeah, i mad.

That being said, AUSA and Katsucon are super chill, I like them a lot. I've never seen any drama there at all.

But if the Salvos see you cosplay, they'll think you either have a lot of money or are just plain weird and will furthermore beat and/or murder you and then dispose of your body in a brutal way.
