Says something that I put the subject in the email field...

Going ALL NIGHT LONG to get this head done. Too much time sitting there staring at it, worried I'd fuck up... I think it turned out alright. Lets see after it has the extra girth of having fur on it...

Pic shows the removable ear system in progress, so I can put the blonde wig on and off the head.

I plan on doing a Simisage cosplay next year. I'm stumped about how I oughtta do the wig for the hair. It's gonna be the first wig I ever do and I'm not sure how to start on this. The pompadour has so much height and width. I'm trying to imagine a more reasonable and "realistic" version for a gijinka-ish costume, but...well, I'll be honest, I think I'd like to pull that big pomp off as my primary goal.

My suggestion, is if you can't pull the height, then try going for the style. Try maybe going with something a little more forward(like the picture) or look into the more greaser style pompador. Also, try looking at Elvis Presley's hair.

You know, for some reason I never thought of putting more of a tilt to the hair. I just kept imagining it as this tower of glory that bordered on bad guido hair.

Derp on my part. Because even from just looking at the art, there IS some modicum of angle there. Thanks for the suggestion, mang.

I don't think snaps would be a good idea because they might make the fabric pull awkwardly since it's supposed to be fitted. I'd give you an actual suggestion but I can't remember exactly what Labrador's back looks like in that outfit.

On a related note, do you know what the navy blue shirt that all the bishops wear looks like under all that white fabric? Been trying to figure out how it fits around the body and how far the white trim or whatever goes down.

    >>4378295
You should be cutting vertically from the start. To fix the bangs, just cut vertically and only take up to a 1/4" of hair in your scissors at a time. Small snips are good. Comb constantly to see how the hair will lay.

Hey there! I fixed it. I re-did the entire bodice so it's coming together right. In the anime he has a mini-lace up going on in the back so I'm going to try that.

    And yes I do!
Basically the style is the same as the bishop apprentice and mourning robes. Other than the details on the neck part, it's just a white line straight down.
I would go with the style of the robes they wear to the bishop's funeral, since all their clothes are the same style at the church.

[Really though, you could get away with just doing a shirt for comfort's sake.]

    PHEW!
tl;dr I showed a pic of my Vriska wings to a regular at work and -crazy-random-happenstance- (but really, not in a Dr.Horrible way) he is the director of a local junior high theatre who are doing a production of MIdsummers Night Dream. I decided to take my first commission, 9 wings in total. I worked off the color schemes they gave me and drew up some sketches myself. I priced them fairly cheap since I felt uncomfortable pricing them accurately without being yet confident in my product. I started getting kinda crazy with some of the designs, since I wanted them to all be fairly distinct. Shiiit, I did not have much time for these, the bottom four where shelled out in an allnighter the day before they were due.
Moving on, I've been discussing with my friends and we're thinking of getting an Artist Alley booth for Afest. Anyone have any suggestions for pricing? I think I'll have 3 sizes, small (think yaya's craft foam size), medium and large (as pictured here). This set was crafted under serious time constraints for super cheap so there is little love here and less of my typically extremely meticulous method so the con-ready pairs will most probably be superior but there were swell practice considering I'd only made 2 wings before hand.

x2 tl;dr combo What would you expect to pay for this type of wing at a convention?

Skills mean nothing if you don't have the look to pull off a character.

Did this girl make this costume? Links?

If it was all about just looking good in a costume, everyone would commission everything.

Youre confusing cosplaying and costuming. But yes, Maryssa made her costume herself.

Everyone has a hit or miss in their collection. I know what you're saying, that some huge woman isn't going to pull off a little school girl. But calling her ugly does not change the fact that the costume is well constructed. (and that she's not really /that/ bad looking)

Small progress. Just finished putting together an earring for SBV Kaito. The cross pendant is heavier than I thought...(that's what I get for buying it online)

Focusing so intently on grains of sand that you don't see the beach. If she were to wear that costume looking like that to a con, few people would care about it. Because she looks bad. Screaming at people to only look at prop accessories doesn't work.

are you kidding? Fat asses get surrounded at cons as long as they're showing cleavage.
I'd at least get a picture of how cool the costume looked.
Also, Kamui looks good when she's taken time with makeup etc.

You might want to make that earring a clip on so that you can have the weight distributed higher up on your earlobe. I'm concerned that you might be uncomfortable. (Also, a rip would be so painful...)

People take photos of obscure shit all the time just because it looks cool, not that they know how accurate or well-suited the person is for the costume. I never previously realized how big of a fuck people give over looking like the character too.

    >>4385217
    Alexstrasza isn't obscure. It's a bandwagon cosplay.

100% more sweet-hearted maybe, but not better. /cgl/'s ability to be brutaly honest is one of its good points. Who else is going to have the heart to tell you that your bad cosplay is bad? Your friends and people on coscom and DA just shower everyone with empty compliments and end up misleading people. You cant get better as a cosplayer without knowing what you did wrong.

In this case the bashing is honest. The crying and trying to protect her from criticisms is the lies.

He he, after a nice night a get a funny breakfast.
Thank you for your criticism, anon. Yeah, I'm not a model and maybe also not a beauty, but I like my look in this costume and my client do the same. And that's the most important point.
And I guess, I'm pretty good to hide the fact that I'm incredibly super ugly. Surely not in my progress photos, but in my photoshootings.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/11(Sun)04:13 No.4386089

That's a myth. Soaking in alcohol will remove SOME of the dye, but not all. And sometimes it doesn't remove anything.

Does buying stuff count as progress? I just shelled out $63 for some boots. Urgh, I hate ordering shoes online... I'm so worried they wont fit, but they were so perfect.
