    So this is serious.

    Why do you cosplay?
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:34 No.4211820
    It amuses me.
    I like making costumes.
I like making artsy crafts in general.

My guess is that these things will be echoed through this thread.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:35 No.4211822
because i want to be an anime character in real life
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:36 No.4211824
It's fun and gratifying. When I finish a costume and it all comes together the way I had hoped, I feel good.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:38 No.4211829
the only way i could get attention is to dress up like a character people like and go to conventions so people would notice me
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:38 No.4211833
sewing is my favorite thing to do and I'm a bit of a weeaboo. What else could I do with my combination of powers?
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:41 No.4211840
    Positive attention.

Nothing wrong with that, I like meeting new people in an automatically positive way. Cosplaying at conventions essentially opens yourself up to a mostly damn friendly community.

This for me. Except I'm not that attractive so no one wants to take my picture or talk to me.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:45 No.4211857
Honestly I just use it as an excuse to try to hook up with skanks at cons.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:45 No.4211858
    OP here. Now tell me.

Do any of you take it as a serious art? Or you pretty much do it to have fun?

    ^ Them.

I also like getting hit on my males/females while being in costume.

I also crossplay, for I sometimes wish to be a man.

I also cosplay so I don't have to be myself anymore.

    I fucking love roleplaying.

Art? I mean...I would say that art is an aesthetic creation, so sure. Some of it is just playing around, obviously. But a lot of it is super involved.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)03:49 No.4211879
    for the fun of it

    I haven't posted yet, but:

It's not a OMG SUPER SRS LIFE AND DEATH thing, but I hold myself to a pretty high standard of craftsmanship, and I'd love to at least supplement my income by doing crafty things like commissions someday.

If I could turn it into a real people career like Volpin, I'd be giddy as a May morning, so I try to keep learning and improving all the time.

;_; inb4 someone crushes my dreams by telling me that Volpin doesn't make a living by being incredibly awesome

I treat is more as a fun hobby and don't really see it serious business for 'XYZ group' only.

I have standards that I hold myself to when I make something. As I gain new abilities I raise my personal standards to exercise what I can do. I don't hold others to my own standards, as I cannot expect other people to do the same level of work that I do.

I do cosplay because I like it, but it's a serious art to me.

because so many cute girls cosplay. and i only figured this out a year ago.

    god damn.

I do it primarily for fun, but if I'm making something artsy, I'm going to go all out on it anyway, so I might as well take it seriously.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)15:36 No.4213470
I like to dress up in just about anything.
I like anime. So I like to dress up as my favorite anime characters. But I'd be happy in any costume.

I do it because it is a fun outlet for my creative urges.

I don't really take it seriously at all. I'm not the best by any means, and it doesn't matter. I try not to be the worst, that is all I really strive for.

    I cosplay to have fun.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)16:13 No.4213566
I love my fandoms, I love cons, I love having people ask for my picture, I love people going "Hi -insert character's name here-!", and I love getting in character.
    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)16:17 No.4213578
I've always been into the plays and musicals at my school, and love the idea of putting on a costume and acting like a favorite character of mine. That and the reaction from people seeing you in a particular costume is always really nice. However cheesy it may be, too, meeting even one person who loves a series you're absolutely nuts for is also a plus.

    >> Anonymous 03/07/11(Mon)16:26 No.4213603
    - I love certain games/characters

    - I love making costumes, it's like putting a puzzle together. I have high standards as well, and being able to create a costume is like an exercise both in creativity and problem solving. This is the most important aspect for me.

    - I love meeting people at cons who are from the same thing and making new friends.
