    ITT:post about college anime clubs.

Hey guys. I just completed a year of college at a nj state institution(go red hawks!). Anyway, I joined their japan club and was aghast on what passed for normal during the club. I mean the horribleness of it is too hard to describe. I will post a video that sums up, why I quit the club.

Here's the promotional video to promote the club: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jK6zOercaQ

Most anime clubs are pathetic. ESPECIALLY when a female is president of the aforementioned club.

    HS Anime Club was awesome

Went to a meeting in Uni. Everyone walked in, watched a movie in the dark, and left without talking to each other. I went back the next week, and a guy pointed to me and said "Oh my God! A girl came back twice!"

I left and never went back.

There was apparently an anime club at my school, and these losers with no sense of time nor place decided to use the art studio lab which is ALWAYS FILLED WITH STUDENTS as their meeting place.

Then there was this awesome chick who'd been into anime/video games since the early 90's. Every time someone came into the room asking if this was where the "otaku meeting" was, she'd pretend not to know what they were talking about until finally they said "anime" and then she would respond with things like "That stuff for little girls? I used to watch Sailor Moon!" She told some hideous ita in BURANDO "Oh! Is that BSSB? I didn't know they made sizes that big!" And subtle trolled until this little fatty was about to pop. I started going into the art lab every meeting day just to watch it.

It raged them so hard that they moved, and went on this weird campaign of wanting to "educate" people that "it's not just kid stuff" to the point where they CAME BACK TO THE ART ROOM one day to give a "presentation." Nerdgirl destroyed them.

I love quiet anons who know how to hide their power level and properly troll.

Used to be the president of mine. Yeah, we've got all the assburgers rejects and the aged non-student locals creeping up the joint, but I joined for a friend who was cool, and stayed for an inner circle of kids who would smoke and drink and fuck just like any other college students. Great times.

Part of the way some ap classes work at my school is that we get to go to classes at a college nearby. I met some anime club people like that when I was in ninth grade and still a weaboo. It was really neat at first to be friends with older people, but some things they did were kind of creepy. There was lots of awkward flirting towards me and the other girl their age in the club, and they would always try to show me pornography if there was any opportunity. Actually, I think that whole situation is what cured me of being a weaboo in the end, so I think it was overall for the best.

I know how bad clubs can be.
I was in a Japanese Culture Club.
There were nice seniors a couple years ago, then I took over it along with the younger leader.
It turned to complete shit, and I was the only person who watched any decent anime.
I went to another one in a different college campus. It was a nice anime club. It was a bunch of tech nerds who had decent humor. I felt out of place though, because I had seen the 2nd most amount of animu. The other guy had seen over 400 series.
I was also the only woman, and when I went to a Dungeons and Dragons meet at a friend's house, I suffered many jealous fatty stares from the weeaboo ladies who shared the house to watch shitty moe.

Apparently there's an anime club at my university that I never heard about. Weird, considering that it's a really small school.

From what I can see it's a very close-knit AZN clique with some weaboos thrown in for good measure. Fuck no I am not going near that insanity, not after high school.

Oh do I have a story for you guys.

Character A; He's an alpha male but is a momma's boy as well. He's kind of aggressive in flirting but still respects the wimmens. Rents with character B an off campus apartment.

Character B: Is a total Omega male. He isn't a pussy but he doesn't chase after it. A good guy but totally oblivious to whats out there for the opposite sex.

Characther C: A wanna be middle eastern hipster. Napoleon dynamite vocal tone with Chris chan views on women.

Gurl: A lonely nerdy girl who has a crush on Character A.

Scenario:A,B have an apartment warming party for scoring a new apartment and invite gurl and C over with a few other people at the party with them.

Story: A is flirting with a couple of women and acting flamboyant. All parties in the story are drinking besides C. Gurl is pissed off that A isn't noticing her and starts to drink a shit ton. She is so depressed that she starts crying and drunkenly stoops over to the closet to continue her activities of doing so. C notices that it's his chance to shine as the knight in shining armor and "comforts her" by hugging her and plants a kiss on her forehead in less than 2 seconds of the hug. She's highly intoxicated but she still flips the fuck out and starts running. They understand C was derpy but they let that one moment slide.

    >> red hawk !!w7YhDS1VXFb 07/26/10(Mon)22:55 No.3337001
Post situation aka the movie. C is a film student at the state college and was assigned a film project to complete for the semester grade. He decides to base his work on the party and everything falls to shit. He bases the characters of A, B and himself but changes them to his point of view. A is a tucker max type character in his story. B is a chuck type character, and C is the non creep good guy. Also the fact that he filmed in A&B's apartment, the same place WHERE the party occurred because his lazy ass couldn't get out of a marty stu mentality. Tidbit, A and gurl are dating when the movie is being shot.

    - C takes 30 hours of being on the set to shoot in a tiny apartment with no special effects. The apartment is 800 square feet and theirs only 3 sets to make with 8 pages of dialog.
-C is also a cheap fuck and tries to outskirt his duty to feed his workers. On the first day of shooting for 8 hours of shooting. He orders 3 pizza pies for 20 people. They were a large pizza pie but that's only one slice per person.
-On the main day of shooting, he got so cheap that he tried to guilt a fat girl to use her school meal plan to get food for everybody and "promised " to pay her back. He never did and the bill was 150-200 to feed 20 people.
    - On the post shoot diner trip with 5 people . He promised to pay for everybody but when it was time to get the beill he tried to make people "pay" him back for the diner trip, EXCEPT for the one chick he wanted to bang. When actors/crew volunteer their whole weekend and who aren't getting paid. The least common courtesy is to feed those pay.
    >> red hawk !!w7YhDS1VXFb 07/26/10(Mon)22:57 No.3337013
    - C uses the ping pong table as a "beer pong" table for the scene and makes sure moisture gets in the ping pong table .
    - C's film lights use over 300 dollars worth of verified electricity and A&B have been hammering him to pay but he keeps deferring responsibility.
    - Gurl sees the revisionist history of being portrayed as a dumb bitch saved by the "nerd" and completely bitches him out on set.
    - He portrays A&B in the film as tools. That's a great way to pay back friends who let you film in their apartment for the whole weekend.

Probably because in America, seeing someone of another race/nationality/creed is NOT something new or different. There is none of the wonder or curiosity that drives people in homogenous cultures to seek out people from outside of it.

Dude, if you want to be bogged down by over-aged weeaboos go to Central Michigan University's anime club. They are loud and obnoxious and either grossly skinny or fat.
Before I get ahead of myself, there were some normal people that that could carry on a real discussion and I could picture doing various cosplays. But, since those were the kendo club members, there were very few of them around.

Most annoying thing is to be viewing a series in japanese with eng subs and have someone playing frets on fire in front of you in a pitch black room.

Except my difference was that in my University it was pure hambeasts, no one under the age of 24 and the three women were the over-controlling-psycho-bitch-no-girls-here-except-me-fatties who were the heads of the entire thing. So pretty much I got glared at by them the three times I went, and no one spoke to me and the men just kinda stared. It was awkward as shit.

Poster you were responding to, that may have less to do with you, and more to do with the bad rep your family would bring.
I personally dated a chinese girl during college, a wonderful girl named Minh.
I met her parents one day.
After meeting me, they told her that if she didn't break up with me, they would deny her any sort of aid during and after her schooling years. Note, she was going for her doctorate and was depending mightily on her family for help with money.
She was determined to buck them, continue seeing me and follow her dream.
I was far more rational about her chances, and told her to break up with me and follow her dream instead. We had a tearful farewell, then she went across the country to pursue her master's, and I haven't seen her since.
I'm told this is NOT uncommon when it comes to first generation immigrant families, and it has enough infamy to be well on the foremind of any guy dating an asian girl.

Also, take some time to show off some Japanese games of all kinds. Persona sticks close to anime, and Tales Series as well, so I'd suggest that.

Other than that, see if you can't dredge up some little-known series that you think are good. Same rule applies for art in general.

Some years ago I attended a community college. In the student lounge there was an area where the anime club hung around and played tabletop games and all that. Once a friend and I walked by and she joked that it was yaoi club as well, pointing to one person sitting on the lap of another. Upon closer inspection we found out it was two hambests girls. We never attended.

My current uni is small and doesn't have an anime club. The one anime fan I met was a Bleach/Death Note/Naruto fangirl. When I told her I didn't care for slash but tolerated it she stopped talking and looking at me in mid-conversation. I should also mention that my uni is a religious one as well.

Last year was my first year. I went to one meeting. Everyone in the group of about 70 people split off into groups of two or three and watched their own anime on their laptops. No one really watched the "main" anime being shown. Then we played Jeopardy and the questions were either about the club leaders ("Who swallowed a spoon of wasabi on a bet?") or really obscure otaku shit that no one knew ("This female seiyuu voiced two male characters in 2006," and so on). A few of the questions were very obviously about NGE and I was absolutely shocked that I was the only one who knew the answers. I thought knowing who Rei and Asuka are would be common knowledge for an anime fan.

About half the club just graduated, so I think I'll give it another shot this year and see if it's improved any.

My friend attends a school about an hour away and she has nothing but praise for her club. I'm half ready to start attending their meetings instead.

Eh I used to run an anime club. I got sick and tired of being overruled and have to listen to weeaboos everyday. So I just stopped coming if I didn't want to watch bleach shit. Then they kicked me out, but no hard feelings, its what I wanted. I never went back.

I didn't go back after that.

I ran our university's club last year. It's the 'Animation and Comics' society, none of this japan weeaboo soc nonsense. We watch both eastern and western animation, and people seem to enjoy it. I may go into more details later, but I'll stick with a story for now:

First session of the year, 120 people squished into a lecture theater that holds 110. We're watching a few episodes of some cool stuff (Macross Frontier, NHK, Nodame Cantabile, Spawn, Justice League, etc), and everything's going okay. After a few shows, a small shy-looking guy comes over to me whilst I'm changing shows, and quietly asks "When are we watching this week's episode of Bleach?".

It took all my strength not to burst out laughing. He left after I told him we didn't watch the big three shounen. We're not really that kind of society, and people who turn up in cosplay or expect generic shounen don't really turn up after the first week.

Pic related: Girls feeling accepted in a society, and not scared away by creepy neckbeards.

I'm pretty sure my community college anime club is the reason why I started to slowly inch away from anime and toward comics. I'm not going to pretend that they were worse than some of the horror stories here, but even standard-fare weeaboo behavior is just unbearable for me.

On the other hand, the anime club at my current college seems pretty cool. They hold their own convention, and the people who run it are awesome. Definitely one of the better small cons I've been to. I might pop in for a meeting sometime.

Not all "neck beards" should get a bad wrap. The ones I've met in my college's anime club have a databank of anime knowledge in their head, so they help recommend cool stuff to watch. And others are really good cosplayers. The wife of one of them has a kick-ass sewing room for making commissions.

Same, except I dropped out of running the club the second year rather than getting kicked out. "Other people that like anime are probably also chill individuals and not socially-inept weeaboos" was the worst and most inaccurate thought that could have led to the creation of that godforsaken club.

All anyone ever wanted to watch was Bleach and Naruto, they complained about the posters not being cool enough yet NEVER offered to assist in making them, and some rude bastards would sit in the back of the room, pull out a laptop and start watching LA Sailor Moon. Great, but why even bother showing up if you're going to break off into a little clique in the corner?

This might not have been so bad if there were anyone in the club that held decent conversations, but everyone there was so... awkward. One guy also bought a noose and presumably a knife to school and attempted to show them off at the conclusion of one meeting. :|

Their was a good ending to all of this. The fat tall dude in the movie is a weird dude but he's nice. He tells me all this shit and calls him out at the anime club both parties attend. This dude epic beard man him with pure facts and everybody in the club went on his side. Everybody had moments of being manipulated by this douche who was a third year by the time by a FRESHMAN. He wasn't weaboo or that much of an otaku by the way. He was normal besides not hanging around the club off hours. The club has socially ostracized the rapist and every thing was good.

This is why I hate my anime club. We have the same cliches, weeaboos and normals, annoying and chill, etc etc. But when we show up to watch anime, everyone breaks off into groups to gossip. Those that don't sit around on their laptops or play Pokemon on their DS. The rest are sitting next to me, actually watching the anime. FUCKING RAGE I hate shit like that, but whatever. Prez of a small liberal arts college anime club here. I somehow got fooled into thinking, after a great sophomore year, that every year could be free of weeaboos since our school is both small and selective. NOPE. This past year we've been suffering from a Freshman who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut (god help us all when he's a sophomore, as his nickname will have to change).

I'd like to think I'm a good president. I get college-club relations shit done, organize our trip to Ohayocon, and schedule anime from different genres every year. Plus, I have tits and the brains to use them to my advantage around neckbeards. Alas, they have no effect on Freshman. He talks LOUDLY through every anime about how the subtitles are "inaccurate compared to the fansubs"--oh, unless it's an anime he likes (Gankutsuou. We swear he's a secret!gay). He also gets into verbal wars with my beloved vp over which Gundam series is correct. Add his horrendous trying-to-be-funny t-shirts and general rude demeanor, and I end up losing half my members because of him. I never thought I'd have to instill rules about screenings, but I can't risk this bullshit again.

Club is club. It's focused on only anime, which is good. This past year has been a bit of a headache, we had some insane drama llama in the beginning, and we did get an influx of weeaboos, but for the most part, they're not too bad. Having a Showing Chairman makes the whole "Why aren't we watching xy?" irrelevant.

We have an extra room designed for bullshitting, and every other week we have everyone bring in stuff and we vote on it. Club is pretty chill.

Creating an Animation club in my highschool? One of my worst ideas ever.

Myself and a cool young (also hot) teacher would commonly discuss the latest anime we had seen, we both had similar tastes. At one point it came up that we both wished other people knew about these great, lesser known series and that it would be fun to share them with other fans.

Together we got a classroom for my available lunch period, secured the TV and DVD player two days a week and got permissions to show what we wanted. As long as he was there, we could show ANYTHING - it was absolute freedom of choice which was pretty awesome.

We made a few tasteful advertisements and talked around the school about it, and our first meeting we gathered about sixty people. Way more than anticipated. However, as soon as we talked a little bit about the rules of the club:

    1. No obnoxious or rude behaviour.
    2. No talking while the TV is on.
    3. We will not be showing anything currently on TV (bleach, DBZ, Naruto, etc.)

    >>3340423About half the room left, leaving us with thirty mostly grade eleven to twelve students. This was fine with us, since there were only thirty something chairs anyway.

All in all, it was a fairly quiet group. There was one insane girl who walked with a limp and her small posse who pretty much drove me and the teacher out by being an overly demanding cunt.

If due to our schedules he or myself couldn't make it, she would freak the fuck out and send an angry email if not FIND one of us within the school and demand why weren't putting it on. Considering I was in ten billion sports and he was a TEACHER, it was often our schedules conflicted and there would only be one showing a week.

Long story short we both ended up quitting because we couldn't take it anymore. A week later she email both of us and demands to borrow our DVD's and laptop we had been used to stream anime because she's running it herself.

She obviously didn't get them, and despite being an overdemanding cunt couldn't supply anything herself. Club died, hot teacher and I made after school dates to watch stuff together.

Did we bang? Yes we did, and it was awesome.

A girl in one of my art history classes saw me reading Eyeshield 21 while waiting for class and we bonded over manga and anime (she lent me her Black Lagoon volumes and was cool and totally normal, so I was happy). A few weeks later, she told me about the university's anime club that she had started going to and invited me. I went and checked it out with my roommate, thinking it would be filled with people like the girl. I don't know why I expected that.
As soon as my roommate and I sat down, this balding guy came in and sat in a desk next to us. We had been doodling, which he saw, so he got out his laptop to show us his crappy furry girls on his dA page. Another guy that sat near us had really, really hard nipples that were distractingly visible through his thin, super tight shirt and brought a bento box filled with the smelly sushi that's sold on campus.

We could barely concentrate on Darker than Black with furry guy trying to ask us about our drawings and show us more of his "art" and the smacking noises of sushi guy in addition to constant giggling from a bunch of girls sitting in the back. Never went back.

I run the anime club at my college. I'd say I'm a pretty good president, and I often hear this is true. I am a girl but really not into yaoi or shoujo or any of that. I like a variety of things and have related hobbies, which I think really helps in adding variety to club activities.

We do watch anime at most meetings, but we arrange events outside of that and meet with other local clubs. We had a group trip to the city's big convention last year. Hoping to get the student government involved this year so we can get more than just a group discount from the con.

There's somewhat of a balance between the super awkward kids, the crazy kids, and the "normal" anime fans. It's a good group, in general. There are bad apples, but that's what happens when you have a hundred or so in the group. The only real problems we have are getting people to interact and not clique up and getting people involved. I'm sure those are pretty universal, and we're working on it.
