So /DRAMA/, what is the best thing that has ever happened to you at a con?

Alternatively, what is your favorite con story?

I met a super cool friend.
It was the first year of a small con; the venue was INCREDIBLY crowded and my friend ditched me to play videogames the whole time (motherfuckers).

So I saw a Malon cosplayer and asked to take her picture. She recognized my cosplay and we ended up talking and hanging out the rest of the con.

We didn't actually see eachother again until this past con, but we've kept in contact and been awesome friends. This past year we hung out again and spent the whole con nerding out over Green Lantern and stuff.

shit was the most fun I've ever had at a con.

My best con story is probably from a few years ago. It was the Sunday of the con, and I woke up an hour late for a flight I had to catch back home. I'm freaking out, and talking with the hotel concierge since they had a link to the airport to reschedule my flight for the next one out.

A friend of mine starts tugging on my shoulder, and I kinda snap at them, then look and where they are pointing, and who's sitting there but Yoshitaka Amano, just hanging out in the hotel lobby. I kind of freak out since I love his art, and my friends drag me over to meet him, I politely ask for his autograph, and hand him a notebook since it was all I had, and he takes out this marker and starts slashing away at it. A few moments later, I get a profile picture of Vampire Hunter D, when all I had expected was a simple autograph. Shit was too cash to measure.

Back the fuck up now. Is that Otacon holding ketchup? I'm in love.
Now then, on-topic, I won a ticket to a Gainax panel that had an apparently very limited attendance quota. Didn't go, just gave my ticket away to a girl instead that wanted it much more than I did. She was so cute and she gave me a hug...Travis Touchdown moment, moeee.
Then there was being in a Metalocalypse group at Wondercon and people getting so excited when I called them douchebags or acted like a dick. Good day.
I also got to hang out with some of the most awesome, chill people at Fanime. I was really happy I had someone to cosplay with every day, cosplaying alone just isn't as fun.
And, this picture. This kid really wanted a picture with me. I think it was the first picture I've ever had taken with a little kid, so that was really nice.

Went, expecting no one to recognize my costume.
Met up with a whole group of awesome fans of the same series.
Hung out together, took pictures, talked, played games.
Most fun con I've ever been to.

Of course, it all went to dramatic, bitchy, painful hell after that, but the con is still a happy, fun memory.

at CTcon this year i was thourougly tired after rave and drinking and finally wrecked my old subzero costume so i wouldn't ever wear it again and went to the elevator.

as i watched the door open, i was greeted by 5 naked cosplayers eating wonton soup they found that was put there by people who had an elevator party about an hour earlier

Last year during the second day of Kumoricon, I was cosplaying as Lupin III. I was just walking back into the lobby of the Hilton, then all of a sudden, I see Big Chris past me on the sidewalk. He yells to me, "Hey Lupin, you steal anything yet, today?" I yell back, "Nothing, BESIDES YOUR GIRLFRIEND!" He then give me the most over expressive face as he yells "SAY WHAT!" We then laugh, and part our ways. Shit was cash.

So our convention has this insanely difficult nerd quiz each year we fail miserably at yet still go to. It has about 40 teams and we generally come just above last. For two years I'd been writing down unrelated, pointless and/or witty answers to veil our inherent inadequacy. This year, they decided to read out their five favourite (but wrong) answers.

Two of them were mine :')

    RECOGNITIONNNN~

My first con (years and years ago) started with a miserable case of fail. Delayed flight, something happened to my ear on the flight that left me with a vague sense of vertigo for a whole month, got trapped into a car ride with a cyberstalker, missed the panel that I wanted to see the most, blah blah blah.

So the end of the first night I'm chilling in the lobby (my roommate was banging a girl in the room) and I realized that the girl next to me, her outfit was defying gravity. Without thinking, I leaned in to figure out how the hell it was staying up. Ended up figuring it out on my own, but we ended up talking for a good five minutes about it and various cosplay tricks. As soon as she left, I realized that I virtually PUT MY FACE IN HER CLEAVAGE, turned bright red and had a horrible awkward moment.

A guy starts laughing and walks up to me, asking if its my first con. We end up talking for like, fifteen minutes, making jokes and just having a lot of fun. As he wanders off, a friend runs up to me and asks me if I knew who that was. I said no, only to be informed that Scott McNeil had been the one to talk me out of a level of embarrassment that otherwise probably would have left me in my room for the rest of the con.

I was a little sister from Bioshock for Sakuracon '08. When I went in '09, there were these two women that flagged me down. They recognized me from last year and said, "we just wanted to tell you that we thought you were adorable, and we used your photo on a link to our site! Hope that's okay, we just thought you were so cool, blah blah blah," they were just incredibly nice and sweet. Feels good man. :3

My second proper con - I'd asked whether they'd let me do a piano concert (anime, film, game) for an hour or so, and they'd said yes. Turned up expecting a so-so piano, turns out they'd forked out to hire a Steinway grand piano (these pianos are possibly some of the best in the world). Was completely gobsmacked. And I thought no one would come, because it was immediately after the opening ceremony. Nuh-uh. The lecture theatre started filling, and during the 40 minutes or so I was playing, not one single person left. I was so chuffed, and everyone was so nice :3.

I can't remember everything but it was mostly ops from animes and the main themes from games and films as I didn't want to stray away from the mainstream too much in case people got bored.

Kuroshitsuji op (was a cielfag and wore the dress), Kingdom Hearts - Hikari/OrganizationXIII/Roxas' theme medley, Star Wars - Imperial March/May the Force Be With You, FMA - Rewrite/Melissa/Brothers/Again, Spirited Away - One Summer's Day, Howl's Moving Castle main theme, Zelda theme, FF8 - Eyes On Me, FF7 - Aeris' Theme, TTGL op, Caramelldansen for lulz, FF10 - To Zanarkand/ending theme, I think I shoved some Trek in as well, and there were a few more anime themes but I have forgotten the setlist as it's been about a year!

I was going to quit cosplaying this year mostly due to lack of motivation. All my friends are pessimistic and cynical about everything none of them share any common interest with me anymore. I ended up attending conventions on my own and cosplaying on my own most of the time. I would look up groups and such but typically once con's end you'll get the whirlwind photos and million friend invites on FB and then silence. I wanted more than just con friends but friends I could actually be around with share the same interests.

So after AB10 this year I had setup to store all my costume stuff away and close shop. I had worn two costumes that weekend. One being Nemesis and the other Bane but the Bane was more of a last minute costume that I wore to a Batman photoshoot. Turns out that going to that photoshoot was the best last minute idea ever.

Turns out later on I got a messge on the forum from one of the people there who was a Harley Quinn cosplayer at the shoot. We got to talkin' and had so much in common and then she introduced me to her friend who was the Riddler at the photoshoot and we also hit it off. By sheer luck I am friends with two really awesome people who I now spend time with and we have tons of cosplays to do together. Recently at CTcon10 we did a TF2 red team with a new guy who was also our Pengiun on sat/sunday.(same guy on Youtube dancing in front of the cosplay chess stage with his umbrella out) and now I have real friends that I want to spend time with. Feels good meng.

Best thing probably came from cosplaying Gundam Wing. I admired an awesome cosplayer on the internet and we cosplayed together a year and a half later, I consider her my best friend.

I met pretty much all of my good friends right now through cosplaying Gundam Wing. Between that and cosplaying TF2, I think I could die happy knowing I've got some of the greatest friends in the world from the best fandoms in the universe.

This didn't happen to me, but happened to a friend I was tagging along with at the time.

This friend had just gotten back from a yearlong homestay in Japan two months prior to the out-of-state con we were going to. While at the con, we ran into some mutual con friends, who had brought a school friend, who had brought a Japanese girl who had just started her homestay in America. She barely spoke any English, so my friend went up to her and started chatting. About ten minutes goes by as I'm hanging out with our mutual friend and his then-girlfriend, and suddenly my friend gets really excited, tears off her wig and her wigcap, and the Japanese girl pauses, screams, and they hug.

Turns out the Japanese girl went to the same high school she did.

Walking through the main hall of the convention, I happened on an Ozymandias in the middle of a photo shoot. At first, I was just going to pass and move along, but he calls me over to get in the shoot with him. Next thing I know I'm in the same pose for 15-20 minutes of me trying to stab him with a fork that someone brought over from the cafeteria.

Felt pretty damn awesome, all things considered.
