    Dear female cosplayers,
Where do you keep your stuff when you're at cons? As in, things you would normally keep in a purse. Neither of the characters I'm cosplaying carry purses nor do they have pockets. I would normally keep my cell phone and stuff like that in my shirt, but I don't want to put money in there because I'm afraid of it falling out. What do you do?
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)15:42 No.3173123
I usually just carry whatever bag and put it down for pictures.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)15:43 No.3173131
I figured out that my best option would be making a purse for the character.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)15:44 No.3173135
I bring a bag and put it down for pictures or ask a friend nearby to hold onto it while I pose. You can also ask the person taking the photo if it's okay if you place your stuff by them while they take a photo. Generally speaking as long as it isn't too far away from you, in plain sight, noticeable and labelled as yours - it's fairly safe to put it down.

If your forgetful or worried you might loose it anyway, sew an invisible pocket(s) into the lining of your costume to keep your stuff in.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)15:44 No.3173137
I make myself a bag with a strap that is the same color as my general costume.

For example, I made a black bag when I had a mainly black kimono to wear. I only strung it over one shoulder and you never see it in the pictures. I had an absolutely obscene amount of pictures taken of me and my cosplay buddy and I didn't want to have to take it off and put it back on and take it off and put it back on and risk having it stolen by the wackos at the convention.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)15:45 No.3173141
I choose costumes that have bags.
For example, my Scout bag worked WONDERFUL for carrying guns, baseball bat, wallet, camera, ipod, and various other things throughout the con. <3

I make/find something that fits the character (color wise, or in some cases plushes with zippers - like the Pokemon that turn into Pokeballs), hide it in my bra (nature's pocket), make a hidden pocket, or give it to my boyfriend to hold.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)15:57 No.3173181
    Sew pockets into your costumes.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)15:59 No.3173186
I put everything but my phone in my sleeve pockets in my Ukitake cosplay. The phone was just too heavy and made the sleeve of my juban try to fall out of the rest of my shihakusho. So instead I just shoved that in the front fold of the kosode, and everything was right with the world once again.

I also kept a bag with me for the simple fact that one cannot fit EVERYTHING into one's sleeves, and that includes large pastries.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)16:00 No.3173192
I try to use a bag that's relevant to my costume. For example, when I cosplayed as RE3 Jill last year, that was a costume without pockets, so I carried around my Tricell bag that I'd gotten with the special edition of RE5. A lot of people actually got a kick out of it.

As an above anon said, too, don't forget about hiding things in your cleavage. If you're really desperate to hide your money or ID, I've found that sticking it in your boot works, too... But only do this if you have boots that zip open, because then you don't have to take the whole thing off to get to your stuff.

Don't forget to make a rhyme about it, so you remember that you put something in your shoe.

    Hotel key, in my shoe
something something something in my shoe~

I have a bag that has leopard-print all over it.
It mostly looks gay together with the characters I'm cosplaying but I think it rocks.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)16:06 No.3173218
I have a messenger-type convention bag that's large enough to hold most things I will buy, as well as pockets for stuff like money, phone, ID, and a place for a water bottle. For pictures I just put it down behind me.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)16:07 No.3173224
This works from me, since most of my friends aren't really into cosplay, so it might work for those of you who don't only hang out with cosplayers.

When going to a con with friends, we try to consolidate all of our stuff into one backpack, that we all share the responsibility of carrying and watching. When in costume, my friends will usually carry the bag for me all day, with the understanding that I'll take it for a day that I'm not in costume. Obviously this won't work if you cosplay all convention days, or if you have shitty friends.

I'm not a female cosplayer, more of a male cosplaying photographer but still here's what I do with my stuff.

I usually carry a messenger bag to keep my camcorder when not in use, in addition to my notebook and any stuff I buy in the Artist Alley and/or in the dealers room. I actually own two messenger bags one for my laptop and one for general use and for conventions. The one that I use for conventions is a Paranoia Agent Myth messenger bag I've ordered online.

Myth bags have already gone out of business, but they there still dealers selling unsold stock at anime conventions.

Money goes in the boobage or the binding. Camera goes up my sleeve, in my pocket or on my wrist...everything thing else gets put in my bag cause it's not as important. (I don't have a cell phone so no worries there)
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)16:27 No.3173307
I use that exact Haruhi Suzumiya bag for cons, OP. But the strap has lots of buttons.
    >> Pasta !!QCk6U0RZYkb 06/27/10(Sun)16:30 No.3173323
I usually pick one of my bags that fits the costume well, I have an obscene amount since friends and my aunt continue to give me ones and I refuse to NOT use a gift... so some just end up in the closet.

Or I make one to suit the character. I have left over Tinkerbell fabric, so I want to make a nice shoulder-draw string bag. If that fails, I have a Tinkerbell tote my friend got me at Disney World for my birthday that I've been using.

Also, putting your bag down for photos isn't against the law and most photographers will understand and give you the chance to. It shouldn't be a big deal anyways.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)19:02 No.3173995
I tend to make a bag/something with pockets that goes with the costume. Made a bulb-backpack for Bulbasaur, making Naota's cat to go with Ninamori's pajamas. If all else fails, I just have an inconspicuous purse and pass it off to a friend for pictures.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)19:07 No.3174021
I ususally sew some pockets inside of my costume, so they are not noticable, for things like money and room keys. For something like a phone or camera, i'll make a pocket in my pants, if they don't have them, or put it in my boot if i am wearing boots.

Everything else gets left in the room, or in the car.

For some reason, I derive endless enjoyment out of seeing tits used to store a cellphone.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)19:11 No.3174040
I just bring my regular purse and put it down for pictures. I'm usually carrying a bunch of other crap that I'll have to put down anyway.

Can't store an iPhone in a bra unless you have an F cup.

    And that's precisely the point.
    >> Anonymous 06/27/10(Sun)19:16 No.3174065
I usually cosplay in groups, and one of the characters usually has a bag or pockets. So they become designated 'shit-carrier' for the day.

    make a pouch?
