Seriously it sucks to put a ton of work into an obscure character like Domino or find a partner and put together the cosplays for a Jessie and James and have your costume be fairly accurate but the ones getting the attention are the group that stuck some Rs on black shirts and called themselves a group of grunts. I'm cosplaying Ariana at NYAF this year and I'm dreading this very thing.

(Not that there's not good grunt cosplay, but you have to be damn spectacular at it.)

I think I actually had a pretty complete cosplay, just not the proper pants, but everything else was pretty much done. Maybe a wig would have been good, but it was alright without.

No kidding. I worked hard to put together a Rocket cosplay (couldn't afford the right boots unfortunately) and the ones who got the most "omg Team Rocket!!!11" were the two who wore baseball caps and T-shirts with Rs taped on.

Also, Phoenix Wright is pretty easy.

Any sort of slice-of-life shows (Honey and Clover, for example). People might not realize you're cosplaying, is the only problem.

This, I have a Shizuo cosplay and one trip to H&M got me all the clothes for under $60, and then walmart had the belt and a pair of accurate glasses for $8 and $10 respectively. The prop is super easy and can be made in less than a day for under $20. You can actually assemble the entire thing in 3 hours from nothing to finished if H&M, wal-mart, and home depot are within 30 mins of each other.

School girl fukus are ridiculously easy to make. I made one for a friend an about an hour. Total cost of materials: $16.

This, I rewear most of my costumes since I'm too poor to be making three new ones a con and don't like wearing the same costume more than one day due to possible stank issues, plan ahead!

Also, I put a lot of money into these, wearing them more than once justifies that to me, along with picking characters that I can reuse wigs between costumes fairly easy.

For easier costumes, Working!! is fairly simple for Satou and Souma, just go to work clothing store and buy some chef whites. Takanashi is equally easy, he's a waiter.

Any man in a suit - Roger from Big O, Sakyo from YYH, etc - is simple with, usually, only a wig needed to make it recognizable.

Any slice of life anime is going to have scenes with day-to-day clothes, it's just the matter of finding them. My go-to easy cosplay is Rose Tyler from Doctor Who which is just dark blue jeans, white sneakers, a white tank top and my union jack t-shirt paired with a wig I made from a previous costume. Quick, easy, comfortable, and a lot of people recognize it quickly.
