Sakuracon has a pretty much unwritten rule that if you're banned from the forums you may as well be banned from the convention.

Same here. At PMX I had my Pedo Bear mascot suit, and security treated me like a fucking terrorist. Best thing to do in that situation is to carry the head around and only wear it for pictures. But once I met head of security and the hotel manager they turned out to be bros and all was cool. I'd probably suggest checking in with security so they know it's you and not Habeeb Derka Derk.

you know I hate to be a dick but I am glad signs are banned.
I mean, I think they should make an exception for cosplays that require a sign (see Stan from the Monkey Island series or Genma from Ranma 1/2) but seriously the signs were becoming a nuisance and at times wildly inappropriate for a family atmosphere ( "I will suck your cock for manga" being one saying that stands out particularly in my memory)

We had some conventions where they checked your luggage/bag and even went as far as to rummage around a girl's underwear in front of everyone else.
They threw away bottles, hairspray, deodorants and behaved like complete dicks towards you.
    Seemed to me like ConcentrationCon.

At a bookfair they wanted me to take away my wand I had for my Snape cosplay, because they thought of it as 'dangerous'.
Funnily enough I got my Masamune smuggled in, the other day, by simply passing through the security without looking left or right, after one of them had asked me to bring it to the checkroom.
When another member of the staff asked me, if I was allowed to bring that prop, I simply answered "Your colleagues already checked it."
    It wasn't even a lie!

Signs definitely shouldn't have anything inappropriate on them. Someday I want to take my little sister to a con and I don't want her to see yaoi advertised everywhere. But I don't think signs should be banned outright. There are lots of fun cosplays that rely on signs, and all kinds of innocent silliness can be done with them as well. I think the issue could be better dealt with through a bit of regulation, like peacebonding. To me the whole thing feels kinda like they want a bit of excess control with some of their rules. It adds to the nasty corporate vibe the con has given off these past few years. Mandatory curfew rule anybody?

    >>3095828 Seemed to me like ConcentrationCon.
Which con was that (you're German, right)

Not ridiculous, but lulzy imo: I recall con rules of a local con saying something like 'if a stranger asks you to come up to his (hotel) room, don't go with him. inform con staff of him immediatly. If he offers you a private photoshooting, or asks for risky poses such as showing your underwear or crotch, or if he offers you sexy clothes to wear for the shooting, don't do it, you might end up in dangerous situations' or something.
I asked con staff about the rule because I thought it was, well, a completely obvious thing. Common sense and everything. They told me they had to include this info because, apparently last year a bunch of idiots decided it was a good idea to follow Creepy McPedophotographer into his hotel room and dress up in "sexy" fukus. I don't know how the story ended and I think I really don't want to know, but still LOL WTF.

That year they seemed to care more that my 6 foot prop had a piece of copper pipe attaching two pieces together in the middle of the costume than the fact it was 6 feet and just over 15 lbs.

At METROCON it's stressed that there are no signs, unless it's part of your character design (if the character is obscure, they recommend you bring proof, just in case). But if it's part of the design and still crude, they may take it, anyway.

I LOVE the no sign rule. METRO also has a "no glomping" rule due to stupid teenagers injuring others. When it was still in the hotel ('03-'04) they had people JUMPING OFF THE SECOND LEVEL BANISTER to glomp someone. That was the end of that!

At Otakon signs are banned unless they're apart of a cosplay. So, could you get around it if you had a sign and said, It's part of my cosplay? 0.o

Drink in your own room like most of us do...

I can understand why they don't want drinking at the actual con, because theres lots of people with no self control that ruin things.

I'm all or censored Shrodinger cosplay.

I *was* for uncensored, but this girl at the Hellsing shoot at Sakuracon this year completely changed my mind. We had two Schrodingers, one censored, one non. The noncensored was talking to the censored, badmouthing everyone who chose not to wear a swastika, calling them pansies and 'fuck political correctness' and whatnot. Then she went to show off her 'authentic' belt buckle that actually belonged to one of the Youth in WW2, saying how she was so proud of having it in her costume and stuff.

I backed away slowly and avoided her ever since.

Sakuracon was pretty much the first and last Hellsing shoot I'll go to. The fans are so fucking batshit, it's scary.

So...you're for censorship because of the behavior of a single person?
Christ is your daddy a hollywood tv producer or something?

More of the behavior of the entire shoot. The censored Schro was looked down on and pushed to the back several times, and all the other cosplayers were just downright scary. I thought that I had somehow stumbled onto a neonazi meeting or something.
