I went for the first time this year, and it was amazing and really nice. Lots of panels, venues are nice, dealer's room/artist alley is HUGE, enough awesome cosplays to distract from the fail.

Come to Colossalcon next week.
It's hosted in a waterpark resort (Kalahari), and is right near a theme park with soem of the best coasters in America (Cedar Point).
And the grand prize for the cosplay contest is a trip to Japan.

Anime North had about 15, 000 last year, so I think I'd be alright with a small con.

People are all going to just name their local cons that they're loyal too.

In all honesty, if you want to get the most out of a US con, I'd suggest going to Otakon. It's the 2nd biggest anime con in the US, has a great deal of events, and a large amount of energy from the fan community. If you're going to drive cross-continent it should be for a con that has enough content to warrant the trip.

I would recommend Kumoricon, but they're having it at the Hilton again this year. Maybe their shit will be together, but a doubt it.
