I miss the days when pokemon cosplayers actually cosplayed as pokemon.

Everyone today wants to do this stupid gijinka bullshit because theyre too lazy/unskilled to make the real character and they want to be LIEK OMG SEXY DURR.

If you want to put on an ear band and slutty accessories for attention then go ahead, but don't call it a pokemon costume because it isn't.

K but most of these aren't slutty at all, and are actually based off a series of artwork. They are cosplaying the design because it appealed to them more then looking like a furfag in a mascot suit.

    cry more

Most of them aren't cosplaying a "design", they're making up their own bullshit because they want to be an attention whore.

It's just like the naruto sexy no jutsu shit. It's something people do because its easier and they can whore themselves out. Has nothing to do at all with the supposed characters in question.

I just don't get how making a costume based off of artwork (actually yes most of these are based off of artwork) and wearing it is being a whore. That is all cosplay... most of the people in this thread are fully clothed... not whorish at all.

Also I don't see how gijinka is lazy... unless you consider any school fuku or sewn costume that doesn't include armor lazy as well.

One of the most appealing things about the gijinka costumes is it is something simple to make and more importantly to wear. If you ever want to cosplay at a con or a picnic and not have to worry about mobility or safety costumes like gijinkas are great.

I think you are all just butthurt - go cry somewhere else.

Gijinka isn't any less furfaggy than a Mascot costume. Even furries do gijinka esque costumes.

Plus, if you're cosplaying a pokemon mascot style, you are just cosplaying and not being a furry.

A furry is someone who believes they have some animal persona AKA fursona and all that crap. And they pretty much only like to do their own "original character".
Anyway, I don't like Gijinka for the same reason I don't like SNJ stuff or the same reason I wouldn't make a costume that only shares the same color scheme as any other character and cosplay of that character. For example, I wouldn't wear a navy blue shirt with yellow stripes and call it "Roy Mustang" from FMA. If I'm going to cosplay a Charmander or somthing, I'm going to actually try and make it look like it, just as I would with a human character like Roy.

I believe the Gijinka is somewhat based on the fact some of the in-game trainers resemble and dress similar to their Pokemon... Not necessiarily that they /want/ to or believe they are a Pokemon...

Gijinka itself has been around long before the Pokemon Gijinka became popular, it's basically anthromorphication of anything, be it an operating system or software, or something real or something of fiction.

Are you going to go around calling every Miku cosplayer a furry because they're an anthro of Yamaha software?

    Well NOW I am.

I maintain the belief that people do gijinkas because:
    1) The Pokemon they're doing is anatomically not cosplayable.
    2) They don't want to do a mascot because:
    a) They lack the skill.
    b) They're afraid of being called a furry.
    3) Lazy slackers, the lot of ya.

Or people just don't want to wear a mascot costume plain and simple. They want to be recognizable and move around freely. A Gijinka is merely something that represents a character or object in human form, and the designs people come up with are great. Also not everything looks good as a mascot. If I wanted to cosplay as windows 7, a giant computer just isn't pleasing while a gijinka is.

    What?

If people are cosplaying Miku with the same stuff shes wearing, then they are doing it accurately. If they are making up some thing that vaguely looks like it then its like doing a Gijinka of a pokemon.

In one case you are actually accurately portraying a character and the other you are distantly portraying it.

You forgot one of the biggest reasons:

They're often kinda practical for general con-going.

When you're in mascot you have on activity - standing there for photos and wandering around to find the next place to stand for photos.

Most gijinkas are mobile and comfy enough that you can enjoy the con normally. Great for con sunday when you don't have a hotel room anymore, days you want to go to the dealer room or take photos, etc.

Personally, that's why gijinka costumes are awesome.

No, but a lot of people's argument seems to be "it's a great easy/casual costume."

Some people just don't like OCs/fan versions and rather stick to what's official is what these arguments boil down to, IMO.
